Typical local Chinese place…read more Ordered spare ribs along with a sweet and sour chicken Ribs were a little fatty however the sauce was really good on them (Peking) I'd have preferred a more fall off the bone rib Sweet and sour was a little sickly sweet, I also asked for no onions, when I got home it had tonnes of onions . Spent 5 mins picking them out the meal It wasn't a brilliant place over all however I have had worse and they were friendly and place looked clean I did like the location, far enough away from other stores that there was no youths loitering around

My flatmates and I ordered from So Good a few months ago and although the food did take a while to…read morearrive, it was delicious when it did. We had a menu thrust under our door during Fresher's Week and it sat in our hall until we felt hungry and lazy enough to use it. The menu has the usual range of Chinese classic dishes and I went for the crispy chilli shredded beef along with fried rice and a bag of prawn crackers. They said they would be 20 minutes, but in reality it was more like 50, and they charged a fiver at the door for it. Nonetheless, the food was tasty and filling. The beef was good quality and the spicy sauce which accompanied it was delicious. I'd certainly recommend ordering from So Good, just be prepared for a bit of a wait.

It was edible. I didn't enjoy my meal. I've had much better Chinese takeaways. It was more…read moreexpensive than the usual takeaway I go to. The Szechuan king prawn was terrible. They had added weird flavours that made it floral and unpleasant. The egg fried rice was over done. The veggie spring rolls were soggy and flat with a weird taste in the middle. The chips were good. The prawn crackers were dry. The bottom line is, I will not return to so good Chinese.

I'll start by admitting that I don't really eat Indian food very often. In fact, the last time I…read morehad some was around 2 years ago when I was pregnant and craved mushroom pilau. So when I say I was taking a gamble on Madras Cottage I really mean it. I'd heard a few good things from friends and family members so we decided to give it a go. It was around half 9 before we sat down and didn't feel like having a huge curry at that time of night so we ordered a sort of buffet selection to nibble at. Chicken pakora, fish pakora, onion bhaji, chips and peshwari naan. Ambitious I know but when you can't decide, order everything. Am I right? Twenty five minutes later the food was at our front door, much to the delight of our vocal stomachs. First, the fish pakora. My love affair with fish pakora started a few years back at a friend's house in East Wymess and every bit of fish pakora I've had since has had to live up to it. It's a hard ask but Madras came close. Crunchy on the outside, flaky and soft in the middle with subtle spices. The chicken pakora was massive. Absolutely enormous. We chose regular portions and I was immediately pleased we did when we opened up the container. The chicken was slightly dry but the pink pakora sauce sorted that right out. There didn't seem to be any heat at all though. A very safe option if you're scared of spice! The onion bhajis. I'm still thinking about them a couple of days later. Crispy, crunchy outside with a perfectly soft, sweet, spicey onion filling. The heat was intense on this one and my hubby found it a bit too much but this almost warranted a five star on its own. Definitely worth a go. The chips were standard and were purely there in case the portions were small. They weren't and we left quite a lot of chips as a result. The Peshawari naan was more like a dessert. Filled with jam and desiccated coconut my sweet toothed husband was in his element. It did taste really good though. It wasn't sickly sweet and the naan bread itself was fluffy and soft. A nice way to end our feast. Despite worrying that we didn't know the best place for Indian in our area we actually managed to bag ourselves a really tasty pick and mix of a meal from Madras. And when the notion takes me again (in a couple of years probably!) we'll know exactly where to go.

Om nom nom nom!…read more Although it doesn't exactly have tough competition, Madras Cottage is by far the best curry shop in the East End... or, in Baillieston, at least. It can be slightly more expensive than other Indian take-aways in the area, but it definitely stands out as the best. Loads of amazing dishes here, they have several speciality kormas, all of your usual curries, and a kick-arse burryani. If you're not a big fan of Indian food, they also have really good chips and pizza. The pièce de résistance is their delectable peshwari naan. You might know this as a naan bread bastardised with jam and almonds, or something along those lines, but Madras Cottage takes it to a whole new level, with jam and coconut. It's sweet, it's savoury, it'll probably keep you all night with all the sugar, but most of all, it's bloody delicious.

My boyfriend and I fancied Chinese one night and had a massive pile of menus to sift through. I…read moreguess this one won for some reason, I guess their menu was the most manageable as most Chinese menus verge on novels. We ordered Spring Rolls, which were huge and tasty if lacking a little flavour. We also shared the Chicken Chow Mein which was enjoyable, we managed to polish it off no problem so that says it all really. We ordered Szechaun Beef, the beef was a little chewy for my liking but the sauce was nice and overall the whole meal was good. The whole thing came to about £15 with bottles of juice also, and the food was devlivered quickly. However I still feel like I am on the quest to find my 'go to' Chinese restaurant in Edinburgh.
