If you are needing an appt you have to download an application called Booksy. We seen Sal and he always comes through and tries to work around our schedule. The shop is clean and AC inside is cold! Out of town supporting a local veterans event and heard a local barber shop closed down shop for the day to give free cuts to veterans. I do a lot of these events and you never run into shops who close down for the day to support vets like that. Got a fade from my man and he did a good job. This place is a hidden gem, in the literal sense too! It sits inside the hall way of a large shopping-center, and if you don't make the effort to walk towards it you will never know that it is there. As soon as you walk in to this place you know that you are in a good place. Why? Because it is packed, and it is packed by members of the community who are happy and satisfied with a good service, and barbers that LOVE what they do. I had Joe cut my hair on this first visit, and he did a great job in cutting my hair. I even got a good ol' fashion shave too! Something that you don't see around any more these days. I will be returning back to these fellas again, and spread the word that these guys are GOOD in cutting hair and they have good prices too! Also, they are going to do a Toy-Drive this coming Christmas Holiday season, so call Joe and the fellas up and get the 411 about that event. read more

Heard about this place thru word-of mouth. I know they have decent barbers in this town (not just fades for the Marines) so on the tip I received I hit this place up. I've been going here for about a year now. I'm almost torn between 3-4 stars because I found a barber who does right by my cuts (I got a weird tilted head and beard), but the customer service is like "meh-to-good." There were a couple of times I made appointments (only way to go here) and they weren't open or dude wasn't there. I called him, he apologized but you know...! Yeah, they play lots of movies off of cable, got a huge screen set-up and maybe some movies are pirated, not sure if I care, though. It's like the shop is stuck between doing their own thing and adhering to standards. I like going there because usually at urban barbershops the feeling when you walk in the attitude was like "who the **** are you?" I only felt a little bit of that on my initial visit. I didn't expect a Walmart-type greeting either, though. And yes, when I show up on time for my appointment,either someone is getting finished up (understandable) or got a hook up just before I got there (not a fan). Craig does a very good job though, and if it needs trimming up or whatnot afterwards he makes it happen. So, would I recommend this place? Yes. But I'd add expect to wait even with an appointment. New Era Barber is in the south east corner of the Del Sol Plaza on 16th St and 4th Ave. they accept card as payment but sometimes their machine is down so bring cash and tip just in case. They have four barbers. Two barbers take appointments only and two take walk ins. Make an appointment just to be safe. You never know who will be working if you don't make an appointment. New Era's Barbers are skilled in modern men's cuts. They'll give you a razor fade with ease, trim/style your beard, and don't rush when you're sitting in their chair. If you want something special or unique they'll take their time to give you the look you want. Don't waste your time with a chain like Great Clipps. New Era Barbers are artists not robots. read more

for those of you talking about slow you probably arent concerned with quality. you should probably line up with the other sheep at the blow and go joints where their objective is to get you in and out as fast as they can. I've been in there when it's standing room only and was amazed the things moved as quickly as they did. This place is filled with top-notch Barbers and all they do is knockout quality haircuts and oh yeah they can take care of your grill too. The only place I've ever let touch my beard. The best way I can describe this place in one word is "Real". They are down the earth. They take their time. They do it right. These guys are professional. As another review said, this place is SLOW. First experience I had was not the best. I went here referred by friends. Didn't think about setting up an appointment because their sign says walk ins welcome. First impression, it looked very hectic, I was not greeted by anyone, nor was I asked if I had an appointment or anything. I just sat in a chair and waited. I just saw people coming in and going out before I was even helped or anything. I assumed they had appointments but still. Basically I got there sometime before 5pm and got out of there close to 8pm which means I waited at least for 2 hours before I was helped and the haircut took another 45. After observing how they operate and overhearing a conversation of a customer and one of the barbers I started to understand how they operate which to me is not the most convenient way. When I got there the place was packed and by the time I was helped I was probably one of the last ones if not the last one. The guy that was before me told one of the barbers I had been waiting a long time and that's when the barber told that customer that he was the only one talking care of the walk ins and the other were by appointment only, however, there was many instances those "appointment only" barbers did not have anyone. They could've helped me. The only reason I stayed was because after waiting that long I would have been a lot madder if after waiting that long I still had no hair cut. I can't complaint about the hair cut. The guy did a very good job but to be honest, that didn't make for the bad customer service though. Second visit, also a walk in, didn't wait as long but it was still close to an hour and there didn't seem to be many people waiting. One of the barbers asked me if I was an appointment because he was obviously available and I said no, so he made me wait for the "walk ins" barber. While I waited I couldn't help but notice they were playing the new captain America movie, it had just came out like a weekend prior. Speaks very poorly of a business to be showing pirated movies. Anyhow, when I was helped the guy that cut my hair was very inexperienced. I noticed this because there was another barber that came over and was telling him how to do certain things. With all this being said, I would not mind paying the $15 that they charge if it wasn't for the bad customer service. Most places are $10-$12 for a basic hair cut. Best barbers in town no doubt. They always do a very good job. Don't have anything bad to say about them. Have plenty of people for walk-ins and can make an appointment as well. They are so good I even trusted them with my newborn. It's always fun and entertaining in there and I wouldn't mind spending 3 hours there if i had to. Never had any problem with them being slow I'm always in and out quick. And just a good tip if you go somewhere new and don't know how they work you should ask before sitting down and wait for someone to babysit you. read more
