We were on 61B which was one of the River Campsites Spent most of the days relaxing in the river, exploring the great trails, enjoying the beautiful park. HIGHLY recommend to anyone looking for a great weekend. Hosts are absolutely WONDERFUL, such nice and accommodating people. I can't wait to go back again!!!

We had TONS of problems with our Hanover Tours vacation (Experience Illinois - August 2019)…read more Accommodation problems: at our second hotel (where we stayed for 3 nights) we were booked into a room with only a King bed - I was travelling with my father. The hotel was completely booked so the only thing they could offer was a pull-out couch. At our third hotel, there were 2 beds but the hotel room was damp-smelling, had carpet stains, water damage under the window and discoloured ceiling tiles. There was also a huge programming mess up. This tour was billed as a tour of Illinois with a focus on John Deere. When we arrived at the John Deere Combine factory we were turned away at the door because the factory was closed for re-tooling. We asked our wonderful Tour Director Kathy to find out from Hanover Tours what happened in the planning for this big of a mistake. This was THE tour that many on our bus had booked the trip for. Many folks who are still farming were missing grain harvest or had to hire folks to look after their livestock because they wanted a chance to tour this factory. As we left the factory I started to compose a Google Review but then stopped and realized that, in Hanover Tours' shoes I would appreciate a chance to make things right. I then emailed the company (and our travel agent) about our experience. The VP of Hanover tours, Diane Deibel, contacted me and said that "once I have all the facts, I will be back in touch" After dinner our Tour Director, Kathy read us an email response to her inquiries to Hanover Tours. (Diane Deibel, VP of Hanover Tours, has promised, through Kathy, to send me a copy of this email but hasn't followed through on that yet. Nor has she responded to my email, as she said she would) It said: - Hanover Tours found out in *JULY* that The JD Combine factory would be on shut-down during our week - that they did not share this info with the Tour Director or the clients on this trip - that they were sorry - that they would buy us lunch at Bob Evans Of course, I can never know but it sure feels to me that Hanover Tours assumes that because of the age of the clients or because so many on this trip are farmers who will be very busy when they get home, that no one will do anything about the mistakes made and the failure to make things right to the satisfaction of these (now former) Hanover Tours clients. I feel terrible for my Dad who was so excited for us to do these things on our first vacation together in 30 years. We've had a lot of fun together and with the great people we've met but I know that everyone is very disappointed with the way this trip has ended.

There were a few glitches, but they were handled calmly and quickly. They went above and beyond my expectations. Would travel with them again, and would recommend them highly. Thank you. So the owner I do believe lectured me on why I should be tipping him..... the food here is usually good and I really love what they've done outside it's beautiful. Just make sure to tip or you'll be looked down upon and lectured about it.

I've been here twice, once just after Labour Day in September (Summer-ish), and once on the weekend…read morebefore Christmas (Winter!). The place is fantastic and each cottage comes fully equipped with everything you expect and more - bed sheets, all cooking equipment, spices, abundant amounts of plates cups and utensils. The owners are extremely friendly, and also keep chickens and sell freshly-laid eggs (I didn't get a chance to try though). Also on the premises is a games room equipped with a ping pong table, a pay-per-use pool table, foosball table, shuffleboard table and a pay-per-use washer/dryer. The cottages and chalets (we've stayed in both before) all come with electric heating, as well as a wood stove to keep yourselves warm. The water is clean and drinkable. The washrooms are updated and modern. The larger cottages and chalets come with a pull-out couch that will fit an extra couple people. BBQ and associated tools are of course included. On the Summer trip, we went canoeing on Lake Eugenia (the resort has a beachfront on this lake, and they rake their shoreline of all the debris that occasionally washes up). Past the road bridge, lake Eugenia is very vast and beautiful. There are also paddleboats to use, and both of these are included. Kayaks are rentable at an additional cost. All the buildings have easy access, but the chalets are the ones that sit closest to the waterfront. On our Winter trip, we used the cottage resort as a base and went to the nearby Blue Mountain ski resort (about 1/2 hour), coming back to cook delicious meals. Some key things you may consider packing: -aluminum foil, plastic wrap, soap, shampoo, bath towels, large roasting pans if you bake meat in the oven

We loved the fishing, canoeing, game room, pool and being in the middle of nowhere with no option but to RELAX! Gary and Pippa were wonderful hosts and were very helpful and patient with all our planning. They were also available to cater a BBQ on site for us. Since they don't have a large meeting room/hall we rented a tent and ended up putting it to good use. Also, the part of the lake the Cedars is on is VERY shallow and murky which didn't entice any swimmers. There are swimming areas nearby which does help. Overall we had a WONDERFUL time!

We were speaking with the owner's brother, Michael, and he let us know they had only been open for 8 weeks. Felt safe in the house and we ended up having the place to ourselves for the most part as the other peeps also staying at the same time went into town for most of the evening that we stayed. House was spotless and very nicely furnished. Bed was super comfy. One thing to note : everywhere nearby we called did not deliver food to the inn (even the local courrier/delivery place) so if you are having a few drinks, be sure to plan accordingly. We ended up going to a pizza place in town (see next review) before we got too into the "sauce" LOL. Breakfast was really amazing and the highlight of our stay. All of us agreed it was one of the best French toast dishes we ever had - super crunchy on the outside yet amazingly fluffy on the inside - YUM! Michael is actually a chef in Collingwood and you could tell from the care and execution of the dishes. I do think they need to possibly reconsider the bathroom situation (ie add another one if possible) as there was only one shared option on the upper level. Just made it a bit awkward trying to shower in the morning as there were probably at least 8 people trying to get in there. Also, one small note - there was no where to hang the wet towels after being used. Perhaps just adding a rack behind the room doors would suffice! All in all, I would definitely stay here again!
