Now moved to over by Whitfields auto licensing and changed name to New Dimensions salon. What a nice bigger location! STILL a GREAT salon for a cut & style! My cut is now $20 (I tip $5) but Amy does such a great job and we finally got the number settings on the clippers dialed in for a consistent cut every time! I'm going every 6-8 weeks to keep my short cut. She offers a variety of services, all professional and with great customer service! read more

We loooove Hair Stars! They give the best haircuts to the guys in our family. High quality and low price. My boys go there and come out looking like they went to an expensive stylist. She really takes the time and does a quality job (much better than hair masters). The clincher for me, is that she only charges $16. This is my favorite hair salon, period. The manager, Amy, and her employees remember my whole family and cheerfully asks about them when we come in. She has high standards for hair cuts, my boys look so much better than when we went to Hair Masters (they do especially well on men's cuts). I have 4 boys and a husband that I will bring no where else! I'm so happy I found Hair Stars... They do a MUCH better job and for only $12! That's even cheaper than the Walmart salon. I truly can't believe the high quality of cut we get and how little we pay. I have a stylist elsewhere that I use for myself. But I have gone to Amy for a trim or touch up several times and have always been impressed. The customer service there is amazing. I can't believe anyone would walk away unhappy. I just spent my last visit arguing with Amy to let me pay her. She seriously gave me a free trim. I just can't say enough about the place. Its nothing fancy, and I wouldn't request anything fancy. But they are the best in Monroe at inexpensive haircuts. I truly get more than I pay for, everytime(even with leaving big tips). read more

I went into this salon to get my hair dyed and not only did they ruin it, they cut my hair. It was uneven and they took a good 3-4 inches off and I didn't ask them to cut it. When I told them I was unhappy with my hair, I didn't get an apology or anything. I asked for a refund, she argued with me and yelled at me. I've already followed Amy and her crew from Snohomish to their location which is now in Monroe. At first, I would only let Amy (the owner) cut my hair but one day she was busy so I hesitantly let one of her employees cut it and now it is very clear that she has handpicked and trained highly talented people to represent her business. I got equal results and now Trust that if Amy hired them, then all is good in the world : ) I always pay $20 but she only charges me $12! Love this place! The staff is amazing! I have a 2 1/2-yr-old and a 4-yr-old, and they love getting there hair cut even! They take their time, actually to listen, and make sure the kids hair is pristine and beautiful all for $10! They also cut adults hair for $12! Not to mention that their prices are to die for, for other services. They cut, color, foil, and have a mani pedi station. Took my daughter to have her hair done and was charged $120 for the worst color and highlights we've ever had done. Her ends and highlights are orange and brassy poor job of blending/transitioning highlights which look chunky and uneven. Went back after 4 days hoping the color would even out or lighten up and be less orange and were told it would be an additional $60 to fix something that should have been done right the first time or not done at all. We just wanted her to run some solid color through the whole hot mess as a fix and she tells us another $60. Major communication problems and poor customer service. Terrible customer service.I am a 53 year old woman. I decided to make an appointment here after reading the good reviews on Yelp. I called around 10:30am to make an appointment. An Asian woman answered and I asked if I they had any openings today. She spoke load with a strong accent that was difficult to understand and said, "It is too busy now, come in at 1pm and we will get you in.". I asked how much for a haircut and she said, "twelve dollars". I asked again because I wasn't sure if I heard her correctly, but she said the same thing. I was surprised and pleased that the cost was so low. I arrived at 1pm and there were a lot of people sitting in a waiting area. I went up to the desk, but no one was there, and then a lady stuck her head out from working on a customer and yelled out, "Can I help you?". I had to yell back, "I am here to get my haircut." She said, "We're too busy now, you come back at 3:30pm." She walked up to the counter and I explained that I had called in at 10:30am and was told to come in at 1pm and they would fit me in. She stared at me and said, 'Oh you made an appointment?'. I explained again that I had called in and was told that they could fit me in at 1pm. I told her I don't live in Monroe and so I can't come back at 3:30pm. Two other Asian ladies came up and one said, "Sorry, if you didn't make an appointment then we can't help you." I said I hadn't been there before so I didn't know how it worked (the whole reason I called in the first place was to make an appointment). They all seemed to talk so loud and it was very embarrassing to stand there and explain that I had come a long way because of what I was told on the phone. So I left feeling very embarrassed, as everyone else must have known how it worked, and they were all staring at me. I would rather pay $35 or $45 and go to a place where I can make a real appointment and be treated with respect and kindness, than $12 and be embarrassed and disrespected. read more

We regularly get our son and husband's hair cut here. They do a great job for getting my son's haircut more stylish (beiber). We have had my daughter's hair cut here once and it came out uneven, so I would not recommend for longer hair. read more

I had the same type of experience, except I actually made the appointment on the phone with someone. When I got there Monday afternoon, the door was locked. Nobody answers the phone and I can't leave a message. Just tried again and no machine. I bought mine on living social also. What a dissappointment. This salon used to be called The Fringe. It is located between Safeway and Ben Franklin. I decided to let my 11 year old girl get foils. She has long medium brown hair and wanted plum highlights. So, this salon had a special going, 8 foils for $20. I made the appointment and my sister and myself took my daughter to appointment. I met with Carissa, the " stylist", and was extremely clear. I said, " she wants plum/purple and a light blond for the 2 colors." I repeatedly told her that I would rather have too much color than not enough and that I wanted my daughter to be wowed when she looked in mirror. The "stylist" suggested toning down the color so it wasn't so vibrant. I told her specifically that I definitely wanted her not be afraid of extreme purple and to "go for it". I also was clear that in no way would it be acceptable to have any red. I went next door to Safeway, leaving my sister there to supervise. I returned to my daughter in the chair and the "stylist" blow drying her hair. I was floored by what i saw. NO Purple at all. Only slight blonde and plenty of pinkish red. I expressed that it was completely not what we wanted and demanded she offer a solution. Amazingly, she acted as if there was nothing wrong and seemed to expect me to thank her and accept the poor quality job. I left my sister to deal with her as i was totally angry at the fact that she was rude and not at all interested in what the customer wanted. They ended up redoing it, and finally got some purple. There were a total of 3 purple striped on 1 side and 1 or 2 on the other. We used color safe shampoo and it washed out within 7 days. So, when I finally got ahold of the owner, I wasn't able to tell him why I was calling or what had gone on. He immediately went off on me, so rude and out of line that I hung up. He proceeded to call my cell phone 4 times leaving horrible messages saying things like, he won't listen to me because I am a rude b**** who causes problems and abused his employee. He said that he had several conversations with my sister and she had told him that I was impossible to please, how he owns multiple businesses and often deals with problem customers like me and that I had better not ever step foot in his salon, etc., etc. I couldn't believe what this man was saying. My sister has never spoken to him, I never asked for anything, I didn't even get to tell him my version of what happened. Just for the record, the real reason I wanted to speak to the owner was simply to let him know that we chose to support a local small company and simply wanted him to know how we were treated. I never asked anyone for money back. When I let my husband hear these messages, he called the owner and as soon as he answered, he started in on my husband. He called Monroe a "crap town" and everyone in it "crap people". He said he didn't give a sh** about what people thought of his business and that as soon as he could get out of his lease, he would get out of Monroe. My husband had the sense to record the entire conversation and told his so, even mentioned that we would review on Yelp. This man said " yelp all you want, he didn't give a sh** about the people of Monroe or what they thought." I know this was long but it is all completely true and I hope it will help people in looking for a quality salon. read more
