I read the reviews before I went to set expectations....and was pleasantly surprised!! When we walked in there were two girls and an older gentleman there doing nothing. The store was clean and neat! The gentleman started helping us and was a pleasure!!! He was very chatty and friendly!! Very helpful! The shoes were pricey but I'm willing to pay for a good quality shoe!! The only downside was we went in for the BOGO50% off sale only to find out you could only use the 50% off on certain shoes. Everything! We went today and there was 3 employees working. 2 women and 1 older man that said he had been working there for 7 years while he was helping someone else. My husband wanted a pair of shoes for Father's Day so I told him I saw this store rather than heart and sole down on San Mateo. We weren't greeted and nobody helped us whatsoever. My husband looked around at different types of shoes but we were never offered help. As we decided to leave another family came in. Seemed like an older man needed shoes and they were walking towards a wall where the women behind the counter without moving a muscle told them that's the women's wall. I have challenges with lower leg and feet neurology, Charcot foot where I wear a brace to stabilize my foot, plus the foot has a rounded bottom so I needed shoes with flat surfaces. I had gone to buy a pair shoes and he told me that I could wear them for 30 days and the soles for 45 days and if they didn't work out to go return them never was I told that they could not be worn. I parked momentarily to make a delivery and conduct legitimate business to the business next door for just a brief minute and this angry manager followed me in an intimidating way and used extremely disrespectful and condescending language. A few years ago I walked into the New Balance store on Ellison in Albuquerque. The sales person measured my feet and immediately told me one of my feet was bigger than the other and I would have to purchase two pairs of shoes in two different sizes. I was furious and asked him what was I supposed to do with the other shoe from each pair. I chose to walk away and not purchase from New Balance. Now my sister went to the same store and was given the same line, she had one foot larger than the other and would have to purchase two pair of shoes!! Rude staff; the woman who assisted me had a attitude including eye rolling and high school mean girl tactics. For example, I leaned in to hand her my custom orthotic insole not noticing she was lacing the shoes she had just taken out of the box, and she just looked at me as she continued to lace the shoes very slowly. Every time she passed her co worker to go into the back, she would stop and make a comment to him, followed by him staring me down. Bought a pair of shoes $160.00 wore them 5 times when I noticed the tongue on the right shoe what's 3/4 " shorter than the left. When I got back in town ( work on east coast) I went back to the store and showed them the defect they told me I was out of luck I only have 45 days to show them defects. I guess I won't be shopping here anymore maybe Nike will want my business. I visited the store on January 5th. I was refused service allegedly because I wouldn't provide the store with personal information. I wasn't permited to make a purchase unless I gave the store my personal information (phone #, email). It wasn't a matter of the form of payment - they never bothered to ask. I guess that no phone, no service, no shoes is a real thing at this location. I complained online, but I have never recieved any response. From the way the manager and staff treated me, I felt like I was being discriminated against because of my age - like they don't want senior citizens to wear there products. I would hope that isn't true, but their behavior made me feel that way. I wonder if they make more money selling my information than they do selling products. read more

Omg if I could give a 0 star I actually would. Worst customer service I've ever experienced! The lady that first helped was so nice and then a gentleman took over and was unbelievably rude. My mom has had multiple surgeries on her knee and has trouble finding shoes that are comfortable. She hasn't liked New Balance in the past but wanted to look in to trying them again. After looking around the store she stated that she would do more research and decide what she wanted to wait before purchasing anything. He stated that he apparently had "30 years of experience" and that he knew "way more than the internet" and walked away. You'd think with that much experience he'd know how to treat customers. Awful, awful, awful- bought some sneakers and when I said my heel was moving she said to just tie them tighter. So I took them home and tried them for a few days on my carpeted rooms. Same problem so when I took them back, they refused to refund them- said wear bigger socks and tie them tighter. I am looking for Sas shoes and the rudest man I have encountered in a very long time said this is a Comfort Shoe Store which meant absolutely nothing to me. I again asked about Sas shoes thinking maybe he has not heard me again he said this is a Comfort Shoe Store and the only Sas I have those 3 pair of sandals. Never again will I step in this store. I had the same "customer service (ha!)" and experience as Kathy F. I purchased a pair of running shoes, some socks and a pair of inserts to the tune of $200.00. The salesman was super nice (while we were potential customers), took lots of time with fitting different styles, told personal stories about his wife's feet and pushed the inserts over some orthotics I already owned. I specifically asked him if the inserts could be returned, even if they had been worn and was told "as long they can be resold". He then went into a story about a woman trying to return a pair that had spaghetti sauce on them and obviously stained inserts wouldn't be accepted. I was surprised they would resell used inserts. When I got home I wore the shoes for about 10 minutes and decided they didn't feel very comfortable and took them back to the store. When we walked into the store the salesman was super rude and very unfriendly. I had planned to exchange the shoes up til that point but when he started acting like a jerk I returned them instead. I didn't have the inserts with me when I returned the shoes; I had worn the inserts one afternoon while out walking my dog and planned to keep them - until the rude experience. When my husband took them into the store today he was told that they had been worn, and store policy was no returns. He finally was issued a store credit, but I don't want anything from this store ever again. He called the Juan Tabo store to talk with a manager and was told no returns on used inserts - STORE POLICY! My husband told her what the salesman had told us, and she said she hadn't been privy to the conversation (so apparently we're liars) and there was nothing she could do for us. We also have bought New Balance shoes for years and in the future will only buy online. We've always tried to support local businesses but this is one store that has lost our business and the business of anyone who will listen to our experience with these unethical people. We have been buying New Balance shoes for over 20 years. We were buying them online to save some money, but we got some counterfeits and decided we should start buying from this store again. My husband bought a pair of 990s for $175 last week. He wore them for 2 days and they made his feet hurt. He took them back today with the receipt in hand and was told that they do not let you return shoes for any reason. He then demanded they refund or exchange the shoes. The manager and employee were belligerent and rude. They accused him of lying about the shoes saying he already had an ankle injury and that's why his feet hurt. They told them he should purchase a $40 insert and that would make the pain go away. They told him the shoes were "well worn" when he only had them for a week and only wore them for 2 days. It turned into a shouting match with other customers witnessing the exchange. They finally caved and exchanged the shoes for another style. We purchase 5 pairs a year from this store. Salesman were very nice and helpful. Prices are absolutely terrible. Found a pair of New Balance 1540's I liked, they were priced at $149.99 in this store. I purchased them from another retailer for $92.79. They do not offer a military/LEO discount either. I was told by one of the salesman that the owner chose not to offer that discount. Rip off!!! Bought a pair of Renew Thong Women's Sandals at the store for $45. Was looking on the NewBalance.com website a few days later and saw the exact same sandal in the exact same color for $35. So I called the store and was told that they don't price match--"the store owner can price the shoes at whatever price he wants as long as it is not less than the price on the New Balance website". So, no refund of the price difference. What a scam--pricing merchandise 30+% over the actual New Balance price! Check the price online before you buy and either buy directly online or go to another store to buy it that will price match. read more

I had a pair of tennis shoes blow out a couple of months after I bought them. I have had excellent luck with New Balance products in the past, and the shoes have a 6 month warranty. This local store is a private business, and their customer service was very poor. They unapologetically said that they were unable to look up a receipt even if given the date of purchase and credit card. I bought a pair of New Balance Women's running shoes for $169.95 with the additional Motion Control inserts for $45.95 last Thursday, December 6, 2018 for a grand total of $232.90 @ the Ellison store. As advertised on TV today, a promotional sale is buy one, get one 1/2 off. I went back into the store to find out if the store would honor the sale so that I could buy a pair of shoes for my husband for the 1/2 off sale price. I was told that the store could not honor the sale since it was a new sale- on December 10, 2018 - 4 days later. I talked to the location at Juan Tabo & got the same answer. Then I called Corporate and was told that each store is privately owned & they set their own policies. I would think that making another sale and acquiring a repeat customer would be important to these 2 stores in Albuquerque, since so many other brick & morter stores are closing.
