*SCAMMER ALERT*
I called to make a reservation for Salmon fishing for our cruise to Skagway. The person taking the reservation did not know what she was doing. She just took my phone number and a deposit. The captain, Ken, called me a few weeks before our cruise and asked what our reservation was for. He didn't even know if we were fishing or going on a wildlife tour. He didn't know how many people were in our group either.
I contacted Ken the day prior to our arrival to confirm our trip and ask how fishing was. I asked him about the weather as well because there was a chance of rain. He mentioned it was supposed to be windy, but never mentioned anything about the chance of canceling fishing.
We arrived to the boat about 30 mins early for our planned fishing trip. Ken saw us and acted surprised to see us. He said, "I guess they didn't call you" He said the high winds were to bad to go fishing. We had spent the entire day in Skagway and it was now 3pm and I hadn't heard from them about the cancellation. Ken then said he could offer us a van tour of the highway glaciers and look for bears, for the price of our deposit, or he could refund our deposit but he would lose the credit card fees. We couldn't get on any other tours this late in the day and hadn't had the chance to see any of Skagway so we went with him in the van.
Kens tour consisted of a drive up the roadway and seeing a small waterfall and part of a glacier in a minivan. We were only able to see a few mountain goats a mile away up a mountain. The tour was not worth the price we paid. Ken almost returned us back to our ship late as well, if we had not been paying attention to the time. While crossing the border in Canada, the border agent knew Ken by name and his "tours", so this led us to believe that Ken does this scam often.
We all understand that bad weather isn't something he could control and didn't blame Ken for canceling fishing. However, he never actually contacted us to cancel. We could have scheduled something else if he had contacted us. We believe Ken did this to us on purpose to "sell" us his van tour, because he admitted that he was loosing $3200 for canceling fishing that day.
If Ken had just called us to cancel beforehand we would not be leaving him a bad review. I can't recommend Never Mondays Charters to anyone else that actually wants to go fish. This was a huge disappointment to our trip and we couldn't even salvage the day due to Ken's greediness. Call someone else if you don't want to get scammed. read more
