Communication was clear and prompt and he was always punctual, which gave us peace of mind, especially for catching our flight. The car was spotless, spacious, and comfortable, with properly fitted and clean car seats already in place--something that's hard to find. Most importantly, Amar was personable and so good with our young kids that they hugged him like family when he arrived to take us on our final trip to the airport. He went above and beyond to help us with bags and logistics and made a big effort to get me back my phone when I left it in the back of his car during the kid wrangling (thanks Amar!). Firstly, I had an issue with the app. I booked the taxi but I couldn't see the tracking of the taxi to arrive, which was a little frustrating. When the taxi arrived it was because there was something wrong with his system, and he phoned into HQ on loudspeaker while I was in the car and then I needed to give him directions some of the way. I also didn't love his driving style as it made me a little nervous. They're clearly trying to offer a premium service vs Eastwood Mearns taxis, with water in the car and free wifi. The price was very cheap as well, £5.50 compared to £7 for a taxi from Newton Mearns to Clarkston. Maybe I just had a less-than-perfect experience but I think I will probably stick with Eastwood Mearns as I've always been pleased with their service.

We'd finished a boozy brunch yesterday and I decided to book an Uber home. Firstly, you need to watch for surge pricing. This pops up as a notification when you try to search for a taxi but I think they could have another reminder in the process, just so you really know what you'll be paying. It came up with 1.5x surge (meaning you pay 1.5x the normal rate because there's a high demand). I just cancelled and waited a few minutes before checking again, and the surge period had finished. I like the app and find it really easy to use - no worrying about where your taxi is because you can see it on the map, no worrying about paying by card or having cash as it's all done in the app so you just hop out at the end. Our taxi arrived within a few minutes and we were on our way. A trip into the city centre for us with our usual taxi company is £12.50, this ride was just £14, so the prices aren't really too different (our taxi company had a 15 minute + wait). I'm not going to say that I'd use Uber all the time in Glasgow but they're definitely handy to have. Also, in my experience (probably 30+ rides with Uber in various cities) the drivers tend to keep the cars in excellent condition.

Über has only recently arrived to Belfast so any time I've checked there is never any cars available. Our car arrived within minutes - I think this is my favourite thing about Uber - you can tell exactly how much time you have before your car is going to arrive. So you can finish off your drinks and walk outside exactly as your taxi arrives. Our driver was pleasant and chatty. He mentioned that he can review passengers and that passengers can also rate him. (Little did he know that we were Yelp Elites and he was getting reviewed anyway). The fair from the bus station to the west end area of Glasgow cost less that £5 and the receipt was emailed to me within minutes of getting out of the car. It just comes straight out of your bank so there's no worrying about stopping for cash. All in all a great experience with Uber and I'll definitely use them again!

The taxi arrived and the driver refused to carry my guide dog. When booking the company were made fully aware of the my dog travelling with me. They left stranded and thankfully Glasgow TOA came to the rescue. I will ensure all of my friends and family are made aware of this and will ensure that everyone in the Guide Dog Association avoids using this company. I have also informed the taxi enforcement unit about the driver as he has broken the law.

It's thought that somewhere along the way from getting wined and dined she had been attacked in the form of tequila and Jager bombs. As awful as this was, the story gets worse - intake of breath please. I WOKE UP in a strange land, jumped off of a moving bus (once it had stopped moving) and fell upon the kindness of a Great Western Taxi driver. A tiny fortune later (for this land was further away than you could image), I was tucked up in bed hiding my face in shame. The moral of the story is: do not drink that much and do not fall asleep on the night bus home. However, IF you do, you'd better hope one of these beauties happens to be passing by and rescue you.

If you're in the city centre and are looking to be picked up, however, they're not quite so excellent. When it's busy, in particular, they can leave you hanging for quite some time. Be prepared to call back at regular intervals to make sure they've sent a car for you, and suck it up! A friend of mine has this problem pretty often and has been stuck in the cold waiting for an hour and a half at times. Once I was with her - and once was enough for me! Not only were they efficient but we were lucky enough to get one of the most friendly and entertaining taxi drivers I've had in ages, who was telling us all about his adventures. He also helped me lift my flat packed goodies out to my door, and all for under a tenner! I stay on the north side of the city so I don't usually call this company since they'd have a long way to go. But from what I gather they don't seem to mind travelling for a hire, and seem to jump at the chance of going a fair distance in the car.
