A Danish discount supermarket brand, Netto has over 600 locations in Denmark, opening its first location in Copenhagen in 1981. Currently, it is part of the Sailing Group, the largest retailer in Denmark.
I stopped in at this location (closest grocery store to my hotel) on my last night in Copenhagen, wanting to pick up some cans of Tuborg (the 2nd most popular beer in Denmark, and not easily accessible in the States). By this time, I was used to the very high prices for food in Denmark, so was pleasantly surprised that each can came out to about a dollar in US currency, when bought as a six pack (the Gron Turborg was slightly higher price than the classic). I noted that a 1.5 liter of bottled water was only $.78. The store did charge a 0,81DKK credit card fee, which was the first time I saw it during my trip. read more
