My Ma was an awesome woman who grew up HARD, but stayed gentle and made a loving home. She left very little to chance, and when she unexpectedly passed in June we found ourselves instructed by her papers to use Neptune to complete her transition. I had dealt many times with them in my job as a Hospice Nurse, but being a family member revealed that not only are they reasonably priced, efficient, and thorough, but that they also were patient, kind, and showed a great deal of tenderness in assisting us to despatch Dearest Maggz... My husband died on 12-20-25. On 1-3-26 I met with a Service Manager and Funeral Director. I was told that the cremation would take 2-3 weeks. This would have been 1/24/26. It's 1/26/26, and today I was told that the cremation is scheduled for this afternoon. Losing a loved one is a stressful event. The family should be able to grieve and not have to spend an abundance of time ensuring that the remains are handled in a timely and respectful manner. read more

Thankfully, I can't comment on the delivery of their services upon the death of a loved one, but I can tell you that their customer service, especially the quality of their billing operation, is pitiful. I'm ready to cancel our contract, because if they handle deaths with the same carelessness as they handle living customers, it will be a final indignity. When my wife and I signed our contract with them about a year ago, I opted to put her payment and mine on the same card. Despite the rep telling us this was done, we received a bill three months later with a 3-month past due amount on her account. I called and tried once again to arrange her payments on MY card, and was assured it was done. It was not, as we received ANOTHER 3-month past due notice. I called back, spoke to a supervisor named Mia, and she profusely apologized and promised to get it right. Guess what? I just received our 3-month past due notice. When I called in mid-morning today, the recording said to call back during regular business hours. Huh??? Pathetic read more

I wish I could say that this was the level of service and empathy I experienced throughout while dealing with the sudden passing of my mom, but I've since learned that it takes a special kind of person who cares about their job and has a human sense of compassion for what they do and who their clients are to be able to provide that. Thank God that was my experience at the Neptune Society (Oakland). From start to finish, my experience with Samuel (our coordinator) was amazing. He was kind, professional, sympathetic to my ignorance since this was the first time I had to deal directly with the loss of a loved one, and on top of all of that, he was responsive and knowledgeable, making me all the more comfortable with this process. Truthfully, I believe there are people like Samuel on this earth for a reason, he did such an amazing job leading my family through this process. He was never pushy, gave us consistent updates, and was quick in his e-mail and telephone responses to my sister and I. A huge thank you to Samuel Rodriguez and his team here. I am still grieving the loss of my mom, but will absolutely reach out to Sam again to plan cremation plans for myself and my father, for when our time comes. When I originally signed up with the Neptune Society, I was understanding that my payments were to be automatically taken out of my checking account. Then, last year I was informed that my contract had been deactivated due to lack of payment. I received a notice from the Neptune Society dated July 17 2022 telling me that my "contract has been inactivated". I have notes on that letter where I've written down five phone numbers all of which I've called, and all gave me another number to call. The last call said they'd get back to me.....nothing was the response. I just recently received another from the Neptune Society dated January 17, 2023 on which I've written another three numbers which I called, and still NOTHING, as in non responsive. I want very much to speak with someone who can ACTUALLY respond to my questions. Is this the way my surviving family is going to be treated? I am completely dissatisfied with their treatment of me. I've decided to donate my body to science. They will cremate my body when they're done with it, and give my ashes to my daughters. I'm ready to walk, and get some if not all of what I've paid in returned. read more

PUSHY SALES PEOPLE AFTER YOUR MONEY. I got a call from Neptune today as I had enquired about their cremation services. When I told them I had actually decided to go with another service they became very pushy and used fear tactics to try convince me to choose them. I tried to get off the call and they kept me on warning me about all the other services that have hidden costs and can leave remains waiting for weeks. This was very distressing to hear at a time that I am very vulnerable due to the death I am trying to manage. I did not feel their customer service was appropriate or respectful. read more

We chose Neptune for their expertise, reliability and world-wide service. We didn't need the later for my grandma but knowing ahead of time that someone would be available to help us no matter what happened and when delivered huge peace of mind. They offered a variety of plans for every budget and we found their prices to be far less than we would have expected to pay at a more traditional funeral home. All the staff are incredibly professional. Mike in Oakland was wonderful. The office staff are kind and gentle. The folks who came at 10pm were sincere, quick, thoughtful. Beginning to end, Neptune made this as easy as they could, given the circumstances families find themselves after losing a loved one - grief, confusion, frustration. We will be using Neptune to make our own plans soon, so no one has to wonder "what happens" should we come to the end of our days. read more

I was happy to received my mom's vase with her ashes and wedding ring. Mia did a wonderful job by putting mom's name and adding Loving Mother and Best Friend. I lived with my mom for 72 years. I never got married so it is very hard for me not having her in my condo. Mia brought chocolate donuts when I visited my mom for the last time at the crematory. Very nice of her when I told her my mom liked chocolate donuts which I got for her every Friday morning. I told my mom she was going home the day before she died because I arrange for hospice care. She didn't make it so at least I kept my promise and she is back home in her vase. read more

We had a very positive experience with The Neptune Society. When my dad passed away, they were recommended to us by the nursing facility. When the van arrived to pick up my dads remains the two men were very respectful, professional and kind. The staff at the office was also very respectful and kind. Sam, the staff member we worked with, gave us all the information and options with burial and cremation, he made phone calls for us to various cemeteries and handled all the paperwork with courtesy and respect. This review is mostly for the outstanding services of the boat crew we used to dispose of our mother's ashes in San Francisco Bay. Although the person answering the phone the day our mother passed also did a good job. The boat crew was extremely respectful of us the passengers, and the captain was excellent talking with me (the oldest child) regarding my wishes for the prayer said, where on the boat we would congregate for the ceremony (bow or stern), and giving me a certificate of exact location where my mother's ashes were disposed of in the bay. They were also able to provide me with 2 extra certificates after we left the boat, for my other brothers. The boat ride itself was beautiful, and the clouds parted at the time of ash disposal, which made the whole experience that much better. read more

I mostly had contact with Mia Timmerman, who was at all times professional, responsive, kind, caring, empathetic and always did what she promised. This was so very comforting during my time of grief. I also had an excellent experience with James (sorry, I do not know his surname), whose calm voice and prompt responses were very reassuring to me. I've had two experiences with the Oakland office and both times had problems. First one of my siblings passed away, and it took forever to get a death certificate. Then I asked for a coroners report from the coroner's office, and they said they would not release it because The Neptune Society had never given them the coroner's fees that I gave them a month before. Most recently my mother passed away, and we contacted them right after she died. It took 4 hours for them to come and pick her up. I was told by the people who came that they were stuck in traffic. When I asked where the people were coming from that took so long at the Oakland office, I was told that they are in Oakland by the airport. When I followed up to get answers on how getting across town could take 4 hours, the people lied and said they were there in 1.5 hours. read more

I respect neptune. I am disappointed, annoyed and exhausted however, after dealing with their Oakland branch. We have been told the wrong information on numerous occasions which has cost us time, money and patience. The manager Faviola appeared to know her stuff but she contradicted her every statement and forced us to visit her office, track down family members who according to the legal documents have zero say in the determination of what we will do with our mothers ashes and more. Carla has absolutely no clue what she is doing and we continue to waste our time trying to illustrate that red is red...she contradicted every single thing she established. She set an appointment to meet us on her day off and did not have the appropriate papers waiting for us. We live far away and we only chose this location because it was close to our mothers house. We are regretting this every day. Do NOT call this office. Call SF or Marin or San Mateo. read more

My mother passed away in a nursing home during the Covid-19 pandemic lock down. With no prior arrangements, the Neptune Society was prompt, courteous, efficient, helpful and kind in a period of extreme stress. They handled things very smoothly, provided exceptional communications even during off hours, and went out of their way to provide excellent service, driving urgently needed documents to our home. It is difficult to "recommend" a service of this kind to anyone, but I felt that the experience and service was exceptional. read more

We could not have had better service, from the collection of our friend's body--and kudos to that crew: it was very early in the morning (2a.m.) and pouring rain and they were so respectful of her remains and of our feelings--to the issuance of death certificates and our friend's ashes. We worked with Sam Rodriguez. His attentiveness to us and willingness to accommodate our mobility restrictions places him a cut above most. Sam was everything you would want under these circumstances: responsive, responsible, kind, and trustworthy. Everything happened in an orderly way and without any red tape/bureaucratic delays. Our family has had the worst experiences with Neptune Society. We had no choice in using them after the death of one parent since all their arrangements were done and paid prior to their deaths. The service they provided in the removal of the body was totally disrespectful. They treated the body as if were a piece of meat and one of them even dripped sweat onto the body as they wrapped it in plastic. Then members of our own family had to carry the deceased to a van since the people Neptune Society sent were not capable. The second experience we had trouble with the person the hospice nurse called to make arrangement for pickup of the body. These are the kind of things a family should not have to deal with at this time. Their lack of experience and communication is the reason I would not recommend them. read more
