Please save yourself some grief and have your surgery done elsewhere…read more Doctor Brakstad made a careless mistake on my surgery and caused me to be in the hospital for 2 months instead of a week for an ileostomy. When I was released he promised me I'd be put back together in 6-8 weeks. So at the 8 week mark, I called him and now he wants me to get a colonoscopy before I get put back together. So I had the colonoscopy April 1st and I call doctor Brakstad's office every week to try to schedule my final surgery and they say he's not here and that they'll take a message and get back to me. Well it's been 3 weeks and they haven't gotten back to me. Now I have to go through the hassle of finding somewhere else to put my intestines back together. I'm lucky I have such an understanding girlfriend.

I want to qualify my one star - I did not get a chance to actually learn whether or not Dr…read more Brakstad is a great surgeon. He was very pleasant when I met him. The horrible performance of his staff drove me to find someone else to perform my surgery. When making appointment, I told the person I spoke with they would need to get hold of archived records from my earlier breast cancer treatment. She said, no problem, they would arrange that. Arrived for first meeting/consultation with Dr. Brakstad - no records were on hand. Left that meeting (on a Friday) having been told that on Monday I would hear from the plastic surgeon he recommends, and that we would move forward with scheduling surgery for the following week. By Wednesday morning, having heard nothing, I call the plastic surgeon's office to see if I can move things along. They have never heard of me, and tell me next week is now booked up. She'll check with Brakstad's office and get back to me. By end of that day, still have heard nothing. From anyone. I guess it's time to go back to the drawing board and find someone else to remove the cancerous tumor from my breast. I sure do hope the two weeks I've wasted on this disorganized operation are not the window of time when cancer cells will have a chance to migrate to other parts of my body.

He performed extremely painful surgery on me in the most humane, patient manner. The pain was unavoidable, but he made it as low-stress and tolerable as possible. Even more importantly, the surgery was done over ten years ago and the results continue to be terrific. I still look forward to our check-ups, knowing that if something does arise he will be the most trustworthy ophthalmologist to deal with it.
