I've been a customer of The Paint Shoppes on Pawtucket Avenue F O R E V E R (okay since 1984, when…read morewe bought a historic house in the city and started having every paint color we used -- except inside trim paint -- custom mixed) that's practically forever, isn't it? In the beginning, John, who IS The Paint Shoppes, always waited on us. Before computers were mixing colors, there was John. He was brilliant at getting colors exactly right. As time went on the business grew, new people came and went; women were added. Some of the staff was more skilled than others but I never ran into anyone who was rude. And I never left without the exact color I wanted. (The outside of our historic house alone has four distinct custom blended colors, which were recreated each time the house was repainted. (Had I been rating the business before computers I would have removed a star for not having a reliable system in place to keep track of custom color formulas for repeat customers.) Looking over our 34 year business relationship, the store deserves 5 stars for customer satisfaction, valuable advice, excellent products and brilliance at color matching.

The prices at this store (on paint) are through the roof. It's simply not worth it. Plus, they…read moreonly carry gallons for many colors so you are sucked into buying a $40+ can even for a small area. I find the help to be rather rude as well. Definitely not customer-friendly.

We stopped at this store to get some information on wood stains for our beach cottage. The…read morecustomer service is top notch. Lisa, spent a good deal of time with us answering questions and providing recommendations to our project. She gave us lots of information to digest and she was great letting us know about a sale that would start the next day and would last over the weekend. At almost $70/gallon of stain, any sale would be welcome! The Sherwin-Williams company dates from 1866, when Cleveland bookkeeper Henry Sherwin invested in Truman Dunham & Co., a paint distributorship. After the partnership dissolved in 1870, he formed Sherwin, Williams, & Co. with Edward Williams and A.T. Osborn. For its first factory, in 1873 the company acquired a cooperage in Cleveland from Standard Oil. Sherwin-Williams was incorporated in Ohio on July 16, 1884, two years after Osborn sold his interest in the company while retaining the retail operations. The company grew through acquisitions and expansions in the late 19th and early 20th century. In the early 1920s, the company became the largest coatings manufacturer in the U.S. Sherwin-Williams experienced a downturn in the 1970s, and Gulf and Western Industries unsuccessfully attempted to take over in that time. The company recovered by fending off the raid and undergoing a series of acquisitions in the 1980s and 1990s, as well as divesting its non-coatings businesses. The company operates more than 2,500 stores worldwide.

I asked for 5 gallons of paint to do an inspirational mural inside of the school and that was the only response I got. Shame on this store.
