This gem of a restaurant on Brighton Road delighted us on all fronts AND cost a very reasonable $120 per couple with a banquet for four including dessert, two bottles of wine and coffees all round. The food was beautifully balanced, it wasn't very spicy but was nice. My friend and I both had vegetarian dishes and they were very hearty with many vegetables and good quality sauces. The cheese naan was to die for, very oily but tastes amazing. I might come back here. The food was good but there are plenty of beautiful places in and around semaphore road that are competing with this place. It is the best Nepalese place I have tried in Semaphore so far though.
My original introduction to Nepalese food was at another, more fancy restaurant in North Adelaide,…read moreand I really didn't like it much. A friend suggested I try Journey to Everest, and I must say that as a result of their excellent recommendation, I am now a convert to Nepalese food. In my view, it is Indian cuisine's sleeker sister. This restaurant offers not a large or lavish dining area, but one that punches above its weight. The surrounds are functional, and the service is OK, the food however is another story. Nepalese food appears to be less oily and lighter than its Indian counterpart, and that allows you to enjoy the flavour more fully. My favourite on their menu is the Madagascar Duck, a sublime feast of duck legs and a well chosen and cooked medley of vegetables in a curry sauce. No rice needed! Journey to Everest has now become a regular fixture for every journey to Semaphore!
Nepalese lamb curry with saffron rice and naan bread. This was my first experience with Nepalese style curry, and it was great.

There were two pieces of glass in the roti. I took one from my mouth. The owner / manager saw this came over and very quickly took the bread and the glass from the table. He quickly returned with new roti. No apology and with the explanation of it had nothing to do with the restaurant, and it must have been the cheese. I found this to be very unusual but we continued with our meal. Our bill arrived at the end and we were charged full price. Just over $100. I explained to him that I was very disappointed, particularly in the lack of apology within his response. The very little I would have expected was complimentary roti bread but nothing. Very disappointed and won't be going back.
It looked better than that before I started but it smelt so good I couldn't wait.

My other half always has a yearning for goat when we go to a Nepalese kitchen and nobody cooks it better than they do, a tantalising goat curry with roti bread...to die for. The atmosphere is relaxed and the earthy ochre colour scheme ensures everything blends beautifully, it's designed for comfort inside and outside the body. Food is not only meant for nutrition but is a visual feast aswell, if it looks good then more often than not it will taste good and it's done to perfection here. Dumplings are a hearty tradition in many cultures and it's no different here, much like in preparation to what's to come: 'watch out lips, watch out tongue, watch out tummy, here it comes'! And it just keeps coming with delicious, glorious food...wish I had my own chef. Good food is few and far between and this place is ranked up the top of my list for places to book.

The charcoal clay oven chicken is delicious, I highly recommend. They have a lovely mix of Indian, Chinese and Tibetan, and what I appreciate most is that they go light on the spices. I'm a huge wuss when it comes to spice and I feel like I'm missing out on a lot of wonderful Asian dishes because I can only handle mild. Namaste has all of the unusual flavours and great taste without turning your body into a sweat lodge. The restaurant is in a lovely cottage, and they have open fires burning in winter and a busy outside area for summer. The service is usually excellent but the last time we went I was disappointed that our waitress seemed to forget us and we had to wait a long time for drinks. This was made up for by our host however, who gave us a complimentary glass of wine because of the wait. Book ahead because this place is majorly popular with the Eastern elite and fills up quick. Note: Lunch is by appointment only and it has to be a group of 12 or more. I recommend this place for dates: it's a romantic setting and hand holding throughout the meal is a must.

Situated in an unassuming shopping block, only a couple of doors down from one of the best Chinese places in town, Zafran Curry Delights is one of my absolute favourite take away places. And they are open until 10.30pm for your after hours noms. By the time you phone in your order, put pants on and drive there your food is ready!! As creatures of habit (and mediocre cheap skates) we tend to order the 'you and me' deal, which comfortably feeds myself and my garbage-desposal-stomached partner for dinner *plus* lunch the next day. Included for the low price of thirty five bucks you get two mains, a large rice, 2 plain naan, a couple of pappadams and either a serve of chicken tikka or sheekh kebab. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD CHOOSE THE TIKKA!! Of all the things that have been done to chicken this is by far my favourite, it's juicy and tasty and I could eat a bucket of it. Our usual mains are the beef vindaloo, which they will make extra spicy for you if you ask, and the chicken tikka marsala (which does have a small surcharge if you're getting the meal deal).
