My favourite Thai especially for vegos and vegans. Lovely staff but you must book as it's very cosy

It's a long story how we purposefully stumbled on Thai Village, and let me tell you, it's worth the…read more20-30 minute drive each time to get there. The food is always on point. Service can be a bit spotty, but good overall. Like many places, they do tend to do a lot of take out and that sometimes takes priority over paying guests in the restaurant (one of my biggest pet peeves), but ... again ... the food is worth it. No matter what I order, they always get it right (and I do make a few substitutions). It's always hot and delicious and comforting. Their Tom Kha Gai soup is incredible. Sooooo good. I love their Chicken Fried Rice and the Chicken Massaman is really flavourful. BUT ... I could lay a bet down, that their Coconut Rice is the BEST in Melbourne. It's beyond delicious. I swear, I could just eat a bowl of that and nothing else and I'd be happy having it as my meal ;-) Thai Village is in a semi busy street (big supermarket across the road that brings in extra traffic), but parking isn't too bad. Also, their pricing is very reasonable. Thai Village is a casual restaurant and one of the nicest Thai restaurants I've been to. Definitely in my Top 3 in Melbourne. Give it a go!

The staff are eclectic but attentive without intruding. A great bar and interesting cocktails compliment the Japanese and Asian fusion menu. Try the beef cheeks with roti along with some fried squid and salmon tartare. The dessert menu is so interesting I won't spoil the fun. Cheltenham is fast becoming another interesting place to have eclectic food as good as anything in Fitzroy. Reasonably priced and easy to get to it's a newish place that will continue to grow popularity.

Since the last time we got it their…read moreprices have increased and they gave got new round containers that are clearly smaller than their old take away prices. I don't mind prices going up, but putting them in newer containers to try and disguise the drop in sizes at the same time does my head in. Sizes don't need to be huge or anything but they do need to be reasonable for the price being charged. Then I opened up the green curry and 3/4 of it was liquid. And the coconut rice was incredibly sweet. There are way better options for Thai in the area that I am happy to go to before returning.

Peanut dust on the top and lemon from a bottle!! Not good. Fresh lemon is a must for a good pad Thai. As are freshly ground peanuts. The service was very friendly although they brought our meals out separately with a large wait time for my friends meal. Sticky rice balls in coconut milk for dessert = not great. :-( Just want to add though that the staff were extremely friendly and attentive.

I had a duck curry, that was a bit chili hotter than I would have liked, but I could still taste the coconut in the rice. Busy, a good sign, friendly service, varied menu with big veg section, well written wine list. Does take away.

All dishes ordered were put together like it came from a country restaurant where stirring premade sauce onto same set of vegetables and heating equates to cooking.
