We're regulars at the 5:30 AM Zombie Class -- yes, it's early, but 100% worth it! The atmosphere here is welcoming, supportive, and full of positive energy. Everyone we've trained with has been incredibly patient, caring, and fun to roll with. The instructors are fantastic across the board -- Keith goes above and beyond, dedicating a ton of his personal time to help us grow. David is calm, patient, and excellent at breaking things down, and I've really appreciated Alex's wisdom and thoughtful insights as well. Whether you're a complete beginner or experienced practitioner, this is one of the best jiu-jitsu studios in town. I highly recommend dropping in and becoming part of the Infinite family!

However, the details of instruction and the friendliness of everyone at Infinite, from the owner to beginners, is unmatched. Gustavo (owner/instructor) continues to compete and master his own craft while stressing the importance of technique over brute force to students. I appreciate this approach as an older practitioner, especially after training overseas at an MMA gym which had the opposite mentality. Gustavo is also supportive of kids and adults who want to compete and does his best to be mat-side with them at tournaments. Regarding the kids classes, I also appreciate the few minutes he spends a with them at the beginning of class talking about their day and trying to connect BJJ lessons to proper behavior off the mat.

They all have different styles and are really patient. They explain the details behind every technique, and they never make anyone feel like being a beginner or not understanding something is a burden. I've been training for a pretty long time now, so it is refreshing to be around coaches who genuinely love the art and love sharing it without ego. This place is a whole family vibe. Having the option of a women's program is really nice too. Coach Katie is a seasoned brown belt competitor, and you can see it right away. Our 14-year-old and 10-year-old daughters both train, and watching them grow so quickly in the kids' program has been one of the coolest things to see as a dad. My 14-year-old will even come train with the adults too, which says a lot compared to some of the other gyms we've been to. We also bring our 3-year-old son, and the gym has this gated kids' area that is pretty legit. He's always having his own little party and is chillin while the rest of us are on the mats. It's a small thing, but it makes a huge difference for families with little ones who aren't quite ready to train yet. The talent and the culture here are authentic, which is really important to me. It feels like family, and for us, it is. If you're looking for a place to train, take an intro class. You'll see what I mean.

The academy is led by three phenomenal black belt instructors who are incredibly detailed, knowledgeable, and genuinely patient. They make learning both effective and enjoyable, no matter your level. Best part? Zero egos, zero tough-guy nonsense; just a welcoming, positive environment where everyone is focused on getting better and having a great time on the mats. Highly recommend!

I asked if I was able to try a few classes before I have to sign a contract. He said how it works is that everyone has to watch one class first, then they could participate in the next class. He said tonight was a great night to come in because it's women's only night. I got there early at 5:30 because Marcos said that's around the time to get there. I assumed that was because I needed to sign a waiver and maybe chat about my martial arts background. But ten minutes after I got there a women pulled up, I smiled at her and she just looked angry. She got out of her car and said "What, are you waiting for me?" I mean I don't even know who she was, so that was awkward and made me feel unwelcome. Then she unlocked the door and I started to bring in my scooter (Marcos already said I could) and she said "Oh sure, you can bring that in too!" It was condescending and made me feel even more unwelcome. I guess I should have explained that I did already get permission and was respectful about it, but my brain just shuts down when people are hostile. She then then tried to get me to sign a contract immediately. She said it was so that I didn't have to when I came back next. I said but I don't know any of the prices yet and don't have enough info, can I wait for later? She said oh don't worry about it, leave the rest blank but make sure you sign it. I told her that two other places did that to me before Eastern Ways and Extreme martial arts. I signed a blank contract and they started my contract over and changed the terms and it was my fault. I learned my lesson. So I told her no, I will wait to sign it until it's filled in with what I choose. She seemed even more hostile after that. Just super bad vibes. I'm giving 3 stars because I'm sure most people there are amazing and Marcos seemed great, but this woman rubbed me the wrong way and that was a huge huge red flag. I won't ever go back, I didn't even stay, I ended up grabbing my scooter and getting the heck out of there.

In that time, I've trained all over the country and experienced a wide range of schools--but Waza BJJ stands out in every way. The owner, Derek Damano, is the real deal. He earned his black belt in 2006 from world champion Casio Werneck, and it shows in every class he teaches. On top of that, Derek is a Division 1 wrestler and has placed at multiple world-level international BJJ competitions. He's an elite athlete with an unparalleled depth of knowledge in grappling, both gi and no-gi, and one of the most well-rounded instructors you'll ever meet. Waza is home to a strong team of high-level black belts, and every assistant instructor brings their own flavor of excellence. The kids program is flourishing--the coaches are amazing, and the kids absolutely love being there. The environment is welcoming, structured, and fun. Beyond the instruction, the vibe at Waza is something special. Derek himself is probably one of the coolest guys in Jiu-Jitsu--laid-back, calm, funny, and just genuinely great to be around. He sets the tone for the entire academy. The facility is gorgeous--huge mat space, multiple bathrooms and changing areas, a clean waiting area for families, a kids' zone, and even a small cardio corner with machines for a quick workouts. Whether you're brand new to Jiu-Jitsu, looking for an amazing program for your kids, or already a black belt looking to sharpen your game, Waza BJJ is one of the best places you'll ever train. I personally love this place.
