More importantly, he makes you feel as if you are the key to his success-- you personally. I. Addition to the cut. He follows up with a great tonic. He knows his stuff. He expects his staff to follow his lead. I moved away in 2014 and have never had as good a haircut as I received at Mr. Rudd's. I have had people try to show me they care by giving a weird back-rub at the end of it. I have had a decent haircut, but it wasn't replicated and they can't remember who I am despite tipping $5 on a $15 haircut. The only place that comes close was in Halifax, but that barber is well past retirement. I can't afford the roughly $400 it would cost me to travel to Mr. Rudd's to keep him as my regular barber, but I can tell you that anytime that I get the chance to visit the Madison area, a visit to Mr. Rudd's will be on the agenda and I would arrange my travel plans based on his availability.

Anthony's is a simple shop that echoes the style of a classic barber shop and exemplifies the skill of a higher class salon without the latte bar, decorative fountain, or price tag. For many years I chose to cut my own hair to save time, money, and to bear full blame when it comes out slanted/crooked/chunky. Most of the time it works out in my favor, but every now and again it is good to get a trim with professionals. I have tried a few places in the Watertown area, but have never been satisfied enough to actually ~want ~ to go back to these unnamed places. Anthony's 511 is just as the name states, Anthony is the one and only gentleman cutting your hair at this 511 Main St address. In 15 minutes, he was able to sculpt a perfect faux hawk from my less than perfect hair. His chair-side demeanor kept things lively, straight forward, and even hilarious at times. The best part, or maybe the most marveling part, was the warm shaving cream dispenser that he used in conjunction with a straight blade to tidy up the back of the neck. No Sweeney Todd blood letting here, just a great cut at a hard to beat price. Fast cut, great service, no week long wait to get an appointment, I might have found the best barber in the area; a hidden gem among all these other establishments charging over $30 for a men's cut. The 20yrs of experience is a nice bonus too.
