My son attended the Dangerous camp and the Music Appreciation camp last summer. We were blown away…read moreby how much fun he had at Dangerous Camp -- the floor of the gym was covered in nerf bullets and the kids were decked out in safety glasses, the leaders seemed intelligent and fun, nobody behaved like sore losers when they lost competitions, they made everything really enjoyable... great experience. The music camp was super small but they accomplished a lot and my son, the youngest in the group-- still had a really positive experience. I was actually surprised because it's hard to make a tiny music camp fun when you don't know what instruments you're getting and what skill levels-- but they did a fabulous job. We kept in touch with a few of the students and they were great. We went to the open house for the school this year and looooved the headmaster's speech. It seems like a private school that actually sticks by their beliefs and doesn't only cater to rich parents. I was left with the impression that they have great integrity, and the people there were respectful, polite, and fun.

Former student here, so I can give a better perspective than some of the kiss ass parents on here…read more I gave it two stars to be generous, as there are some good things to ND overall but the bad outweighs the good here. Pros: -Classes are great and teachers want to help you. -After school stuff is well funded and well organized. -The sports events are fun to go to and the team plays well. -There's some elements of cameraderie (I'll focus on it later) -Food is fantastic. Cons: -Students can be right-leaning, some even bordering white nationalism (students have used pro-Confederate quotes on Instagram, and publicly have used racial slurs along with positive feelings toward bringing back slavery). -Homogenous school setting (almost everyone is a middle class, white, Republican prep kid that likes some sport. No one is really diverse or unique). -Lack of IEP/Special Ed programs. -The administration, while friendly, tends to favor the vox populi rather than the people getting bullied. You can see that my only problems with this school is the kids and the lack of IEP programs. Everything else about is good. If you want a good Catholic school for your child, I'd recommend it if they can keep to themselves politically. Otherwise, if they're Left of Centre all I can say is get the popcorn ready.

The brotherhood there is unbelievable with these boys they have a great bond with each other. They have excellent teaching staff and many clubs and athletic opportunities to be in. I currently attend Maine South and what I can say is that the administration does not care about…read morethe student body. They only show affection for other staff members. The students are very inclusive and welcoming here, but the teachers and staff treat them like animals. Security is not existent here, drugs abuse among good, well respected students is out of control, and all the school does is continues changing course materials and curriculums to become more progressive. The number of threatening emails, phone calls, and letters sent by 'Assistant Principals' is outrageous. There is definitely many class-action lawsuits in the making here...

Students cannot focus during this long of periods, especially at a high school level. Social exclusion is also a big issue at this school. There are plenty of prestigious schools in the area; you are better off sending you student to another private school or one of those until the new principal gets his head screwed on correctly and fixes the new schedule.

And I will note that the reason it was so inexpensive is that they pitch the junior high kids HARD on attending Loyola Academy for high school so that what cost $100 could end up costing you $30,000 Per year. But his dad is Jewish and got freaked out when he heard there were crosses in every classroom. (Lol from a mom who has 17 years of Catholic education!)

These are the sort of community based events that a public school's facilities should be used for, bringing the general public in to show what the tax dollars are being used for, and giving prospective students/parents an idea of what's ahead next. It is a large auditorium, with comfortable seating and good acoustics. It can host a large production, with a lot of available seating. It also has dedicated auditorium parking very close to the main auditorium entrance, but it's limited. The studio had 6 shows in all this Sunday, and between show 3 and 4, it was definitely busy in the parking area, but everyone was dealing with it happily: a beautiful day outside and a show that makes you feel young.

Other alums who've made the news are Rick Singer (think Lori Laughlin/Full House college admissions advisor) and George Papadopolous (foreign policy advisor for President Trump). Of course there are sports stars - Rashard Mendenhall (Steelers) and Jewel Lloyd (WNBA), Bart Conner (Gold medalist), etc. But what I really like about Niles West is that it's probably the most diverse high school in the country - by race, national origin and socio- economic status. See - a lotta people talk about supporting diversity but don't exactly want to live in it. Niles West embraces the over 100 different languages and makes it happen. And you don't have to be an elitist to attend this school, however, with hard work and good grades - you'll find yourself in elite company, in the very near future.

That said, there are 1,000 students in a class. NT is probably best for those who are self starters. I spent the first two years there looking for my tribe. This school district sucks. They have unyielding and unreasonable rules that make learning…read moreimpossible. For example, they allow only 3 minutes for students at their junior high to run between classes and, you guessed it, they are not allowed to run. The students have to gobble down their lunch within 15-30 minutes or be forced to throw it away. In elementary school, they insist on non-standard methods and require the students learn all of these complicated and cumbersome methods. Despite exceeding the average on state-wide tests from being self/taught math at home, the student can still get a near failing grade in math just because the non-standard methodology doesn't make any sense. They also require a physical ID just to take your kid home if they get sick for example. This is despite Illinois being a digital ID state. The district doesn't take any input from parents on any of these. The only time they engage parents is for "deciding" on poor options that don't matter anyway. Now, the same district that doesn't listen to parents wants even more of our precious tax property dollars to spend anyway they want on their costly pet projects that do not include bettering education. If you try to call the superintendent, you basically just get told that this is what they decided and you can go and pound sand. If you have a kid in this district, find a way out! They don't care at all about you here and take the community for granted.
