We were blown away…read moreby how much fun he had at Dangerous Camp -- the floor of the gym was covered in nerf bullets and the kids were decked out in safety glasses, the leaders seemed intelligent and fun, nobody behaved like sore losers when they lost competitions, they made everything really enjoyable... great experience. The music camp was super small but they accomplished a lot and my son, the youngest in the group-- still had a really positive experience. I was actually surprised because it's hard to make a tiny music camp fun when you don't know what instruments you're getting and what skill levels-- but they did a fabulous job. We kept in touch with a few of the students and they were great. We went to the open house for the school this year and looooved the headmaster's speech. It seems like a private school that actually sticks by their beliefs and doesn't only cater to rich parents. I was left with the impression that they have great integrity, and the people there were respectful, polite, and fun.

Pros: -Classes are great and teachers want to help you. -After school stuff is well funded and well organized. -The sports events are fun to go to and the team plays well. -There's some elements of cameraderie (I'll focus on it later) -Food is fantastic. Cons: -Students can be right-leaning, some even bordering white nationalism (students have used pro-Confederate quotes on Instagram, and publicly have used racial slurs along with positive feelings toward bringing back slavery). -Homogenous school setting (almost everyone is a middle class, white, Republican prep kid that likes some sport. No one is really diverse or unique). -Lack of IEP/Special Ed programs. -The administration, while friendly, tends to favor the vox populi rather than the people getting bullied. You can see that my only problems with this school is the kids and the lack of IEP programs. Everything else about is good. If you want a good Catholic school for your child, I'd recommend it if they can keep to themselves politically. Otherwise, if they're Left of Centre all I can say is get the popcorn ready.

Maine South, my alma mater...where to start…read more.. Overall, I had a good time. I made my friends, and we hung out the four years. Drama with BOYZ and GIRLZ of course, but that is standard. I really liked the art department, and my hours there are some of the most pleasant from my teenage years. I agree with Dea A. that they could do more to accommodate the students who have plans that deviate even ever so slightly from the norm. My gripe is with the accelerated vs. regular track science classes. I hope this has changed since. In order to take an AP bio, chem or physics class, you must have 1 full year of bio, chem and physics. The accelerated science track conveniently offers accelerated classes in each of these subjects for a full year each. In the regular track, you take one full year of bio, then in your sophomore year, you take one half year of physics and one half year of physics. Then in your junior year, you take one full year of physics or chem. As you can see, if you're in the regular track, you end up with one year of bio, and then 1.5 years of chem (in my case) and .5 years of physics. Having consistently maintained a kick ass grade in chemistry in both my classes, I wanted to take AP chem, and all my chem teachers gave their approval. I was refused. Why? Because I didn't have that extra half year of physics. I was told that I could take a year of physics at a local community college (at my expense of course) to be allowed to take AP chem. Or you know, I could take geology with all the other regular track seniors. Thanks, but no thanks. They were just too lazy to actually help a bright student pursue their chemistry dreams...So that pissed me off, as you can see from this long review. Screw it all, I'm in law school now bitches! Students cannot focus during this long of periods, especially at a high school level. Social exclusion is also a big issue at this school. There are plenty of prestigious schools in the area; you are better off sending you student to another private school or one of those until the new principal gets his head screwed on correctly and fixes the new schedule.

These are the sort of community based events that a public school's facilities should be used for, bringing the general public in to show what the tax dollars are being used for, and giving prospective students/parents an idea of what's ahead next. It is a large auditorium, with comfortable seating and good acoustics. It can host a large production, with a lot of available seating. It also has dedicated auditorium parking very close to the main auditorium entrance, but it's limited. The studio had 6 shows in all this Sunday, and between show 3 and 4, it was definitely busy in the parking area, but everyone was dealing with it happily: a beautiful day outside and a show that makes you feel young.

Of course there are sports stars - Rashard Mendenhall (Steelers) and Jewel Lloyd (WNBA), Bart Conner (Gold medalist), etc. But what I really like about Niles West is that it's probably the most diverse high school in the country - by race, national origin and socio- economic status. See - a lotta people talk about supporting diversity but don't exactly want to live in it. Niles West embraces the over 100 different languages and makes it happen. And you don't have to be an elitist to attend this school, however, with hard work and good grades - you'll find yourself in elite company, in the very near future.

First of all, this is a teacher and parent who's job is to monitor recess either if she was paid to do so or volunteered, to get the balls when they go in the street, which is exactly what happened. We love SJS! The school and Parish are very active and upbeat. They are always improving things…read moreso our kids have the best possible education and environment. They just got new windows in part of the school and updated the courtyard with brand new play equipment, turf, decking and benches. There's also a brand new STEAM lab for the older kids. I don't know much about the "big kid" classes since my son is in PK, but I've heard great things and have met a few WONDERFUL teachers of the higher grades. The class sizes are smaller (there are two 3 year old PK and two 4 year old PK's instead of one giant class for each). PK follows the Big Day curriculum and keeps very active. Since my son has started PK4 he has learned so much! We also love that there is after care both before and after school. We don't use the before school care but we do use Extended Care for after school, which makes life easier for working parents. I also love that the teachers all have their own blogs and post pictures and information about what the kids do all day.

New Trier is a special school, one that gives each student the opportunity to explore and develop…read morein every respect; academically, socially, philanthropically and athletically. That said, there are 1,000 students in a class. NT is probably best for those who are self starters. I spent the first two years there looking for my tribe. When I found small group of yearbook friends, it made going to school a far friendlier place. The students there bring tremendous talent in virtually all endeavors. It is a privilege attending school there, I am proud to be an alumnus.
