Been playing Pearl's for 53 years. I'm about to buy my next (likely last ever) set and it will be…read morePearls too. I've played pretty much every brand and nothing comes close to tunability and durability. If you get em you won't be sorry.

The best drums period and I've played them all…read more (Better than Yamaha, Ludwig, DW and Tama, etc.--maybe four stars for these.) (Better than Gretsch--take the head off and enjoy viewing the sloppy silver paint job and the wood screws that attach the lugs.) (Better than Premier--Bring back the Signia and you'll be partially redeemed) (Better than Sonor--always cheapening the brand with their "import" models: Did you pay $700 or $7,000 for that thing?) Sure you can spend thousands more on a show-y boutique kit that makes you stand out on stage like the fat chick on the drill squad. But do the boutiques or even the other big companies give you outstanding customer service after the sale with an 800 number? Do they have a customer-friendly warranty? Read the warranties of the other manufacturers. Kind of like buyer beware: "After the drum is handed over to the drummer and he, she or it whacks it with a stick....this warranty shall be void." Pearl is the world's largest drum company only because they have earned the continuing long-term respect of drummers. Pearl goes out of its way to keep us happy. A few personal examples: --The air vent grommet on my Omar Hakim snare worked its way loose. I Called Pearl who immediately sent me the correct grommet and its been fixed for 10 years. --On one of my Masters bass drums, the plastic washers on the top part of both spurs cracked (Thank you America West). Pearl sent me replacements, no questions asked. --I ordered the high-end throne (the D2000BR). It took the retailer too long to ship it, so I contacted Pearl directly who sent me one out within days. I ended up with two of them eventually, so I sent one back. --On a 4-year-old Pearl cymbal stand, I stripped the wing nut that cinches the pipe joint (my bad: I've got drummer hands). I asked Pearl where I could buy a replacement and they offered to send me several replacement nuts and bolts for free.

My boyfriend knew one of the guys working there so they caught up while we were browsing. Decent selection of instruments for the value. Pretty cool place!

Well, the pots were supposed to be push/pull, that didn't work, so the tech was going to replace them and redo the wiring. I was visiting Nashville and leaving about a week after. I was told it would take a bit to get the parts because it wasn't an American-made guitar, and I was fine with that. As long as the work was done correctly, and it was shipped to me. I asked for a guarantee or warranty, and did not receive one other than, "well, you could ship it back". My daughter lives in the area so I could bring it with me, but I reasoned that they've been in business for a long time and shoddy work wouldn't allow for this. I told the sales person, Alex, this exact reasoning. Again, I was fine with the handshake deal if the work would be done, and done correctly and I wouldn't have issues down the road--if it was a installation or parts failure issue. All of this happened around the weekend so people weren't in, there were some other issues with the management being out for a few days, etc. I'm fine with all of that. But, I went back to play the guitar before I left. Found the tech changed the strings to a thicker gauge and raised the action to where it was nowhere close to the guitar that I enjoyed initially. I even told Alex that he could leave the thicker strings on just lower the action to where it was before. And, I was supposed to get a phone call the day after I left, because I wanted to know why he did those things. Nothing. I called about four days later and talk with the gentleman who said the guitar was shipped and on the way to me, which was odd considering the tech wasn't supposed to have the parts. I received the guitar. It was packed extremely well, A+ for that. But the tech put on the lighter strings, and instead of adjusting guitar, just lowered the action as far down as it possibly could go, I don't know what his issue is. The strings were horribly out of tune as you could imagine, and once I got them to where I could play at them, all I heard was fret buzz because the action was quite literally on the neck. This was not what I asked. I raised the action myself. I changed the strings again, played we'll acoustically, but the output from the pickups seemed off. It was extremely high output and every sound that came no matter what setting I had on my amp was distorted and overdriven--not in a good way. The knobs didn't work, volume didn't work, tone didn't work, the pick up selector switch sometimes worked, and it sounds horrible through an amp. Just shoddy work. Exactly what I was afraid of, exactly what I asked not to have done, exactly what I wanted assurances that would not happen. I received no follow up, Alex has still never talked to me after he took my money, and I'll be seeing my local guitar tech to switch out the pots correctly or at least look at the wiring because that doesn't seem to be right either. What was an average deal on this guitar will cost me maybe $150-200 more to have it fixed. Had I lived in the area, I would be there until it was done right. I do not recommend this shop, while the folks seem nice, you want to have a nice guitar, and I have one I can't play. If I hadn't said anything, it'd totally be on me. But I did, and there's no excuse. Am still waiting on a follow up, and if anyone wants to contact me, they may.
