I researched Bio Dentistry and on a recommendation from my naturopathic doctor chose Dr. Hites. He has replaced all of my mercury as well as my husbands with skillful precaution and has also treated my daughter's complicated mouth issues with compassion, grace and patience. He is grounded, calm, and professional and has an excellent bedside manner. We feel safe in his care and relieved to have a dentist who is knowledgeable and up to date on alternative health modalities without ever making us feel wrong that we didn't know. For example, I had no idea the extreme importance of nose breathing which Dr. Hites educated me about and he supports the way I aspire to nourish my family, with nutrient dense food and no processed food. While he is efficient and business like and not a person who lingers or inquires into our personal life experience, he does provide a very high quality level of care and I have now referred him to several of my friends and colleagues. A special shout out to Patricia, one of his assistants who makes my daughter feel like the most important person on earth. She is a saint and a warm hearted love bug who makes up for the lack of enthusiasm that a couple of the other staff lack. It's all nicely balanced. One minor negative issue is that I have at times felt a little bothered with one of the staff who is curt and less than friendly but I try to grant her her innocence since all of the other staff are for the most part gracious. I am grateful we found our dentist and I highly recommend him. He can be trusted and gives excellent care.

They refuse to do "Preop" It means that they refuse to send it to your insurance so you would find out how much is covered. Instead they give you some random number, that they think it would cover. And it is usually a wrong number. They put a pressure on me to pay in full before the procedure, telling that it would cost me more if I did not pay in full weeks before the expensive procedure would happen. When Insurance partially reimburses you it goes to them again even though it was paid in full. If you have an insurance make sure it is written somewhere that it pays you and not them. And then you have to call them again and again to get your insurance reimbursement There is a lot of confusion in the office. They make an appointment and then when you arrive on time tell you that you were not scheduled. When you ask to talk to the manager Marissa they say she was not there, she will call you. She does not return your call. Dr.Hites himself became too expensive and does not always tell you a price for the procedure before he does it. In other words a total disappointment.

To be honest, I was sooooo scared. I work in the dental field myelf but have never needed a root canal before. So when Dr. Liu told me a root canal was needed you could just imagine what was going through my mind! Before and during the procedure Dr. Liu and his assistant were keeping me informed, letting me know in detail what was happening and what result we would get. After he was done, I was like, that's it? really?? Dr. Liu did such a wonderful job! I didn't feel a thing during the procedure and little to no pain the following days. YAY!!! I just went back for my full exam and had my cleaning done. Again, the staff was wonderful! They were nice and gentle and Vicki does an excellent job at explaining my insurance and cost breakdown for me. It's great to be able to go somewhere where you know you are in GREAT hands! I experienced blurred professional boundaries, surprise billing, and ultimately a retaliatory…read moredenial of care at this office. I had several visits with Dr. Janice Chan and became increasingly uncomfortable with her conduct. At multiple appointments, her behavior blurred professional boundaries in ways that felt suggestive and inappropriate... especially considering that she is married (According to the dental board website). On my last visit, Dr. Chan told me there was a credit on my account and that no payment was necessary for a $68 appointment. This created an implied sense of indebtedness, as if I now owed her something in return. To me, it felt like there was an unspoken expectation that I should respond by writing an over-the-top positive review. I chose not to post one. Based on the way things had already unfolded, I even anticipated that this "credit" might later be reversed and unfortunately, that is exactly what happened when I received a delayed bill for the same visit weeks later. Wanting to resolve it quickly, I immediately called the office, paid the bill, and removed myself as a patient. After I raised concerns about the inconsistency, I was issued a small $28 credit and a five-paragraph email that, in my opinion, avoided addressing the issue in a straightforward way. Out of curiosity, I later attempted to return as a patient to see if the situation would be handled professionally. Dr. Chan refused, telling me "the trust has been broken." From my perspective, the trust was broken when professionalism was replaced with blurred boundaries, implied emotional pressure, and shifting billing practices. Her refusal to allow me back felt less like a misunderstanding and more like a retaliatory denial of care. In my opinion, no patient should ever have to deal with blurred personal boundaries, implied obligations, or irregular billing from a medical professional. Transparency, respect, and integrity are non-negotiable in healthcare. Unfortunately, I did not experience them here.

Before my appointment started earlier this week, I was told to have X-rays. I declined. I had to sign a document that showed I "refused" X-rays. I was not given a copy. After my appointment, I was told that Dr Chan now has a policy of requiring X-rays once a year before I could make another appointment for my next dental cleaning. I find this excessive and am not sure what I will do next. My experience with Dr Chan was disappointing overall. No discount for seniors. No toothbrush. I was not impressed with the hygienist who seemed unfamiliar with my history and made suggestions that seemed robotic and were unclear. Dr Chan gave my teeth a cursory look after the cleaning with little feedback or a personal comment for an additional $75 fee. My reasons for not having X-rays are financial and I want the dentist to take a look at my teeth and evaluate my dental health based on her expertise at the time of my appointment and not just based on X-rays. As well, due to cancer diagnosis, I avoid X-rays whenever possible. I have been using the tools Dr. King taught me to take better care of my teeth and to the best of my ability, I have made good use of daily dental practices she advised me to follow. In this time of concern for patient well being, I believe it would have been helpful for Dr Chan to provide me with a discount on the X-rays or at the minimum, have a short conversation with me. Her current policy moving forward may be an obstacle for me in keeping her as my dentist. Unfortunately, she seemed uninterested. It felt impersonal.

This was not pleasant but I was willing to accept even though I have dual insurance coverage and would not have to pay any portion. The unpleasant part of being a patients is you plan and budget to pay for a services such as exam and cleaning and when I showed up for the appointment they added X-rays and others services as well. Not a problem just would have been good to know about the added expenses I would be charging on my credit card. The bigger concern...the doctor did not review my X-rays with me and advised that I have a crown that is decaying which she seen on my X-rays and needed attention. Also advised to remove my silver fillings and replace them. What she did not expect was my response that I DO NOT HAVE ANY CROWNS IN MY MOUTH. Then she said well they must be a partial. Huh?? Not even that. I had a clear small filling sealer which still was 98%+ of my tooth still in tact. Wow. My childhood dentist who retired last year informed me that any good dentist will show you your X-rays and identify the problem with you, if not don't trust them. I mentioned to her that I would like to think and consult with my childhood dentist and she gave me the most rough and poor cleaning experience ever. Parts were so painful from the scraping I had to stop her twice. Then upon exiting, she refused to complete the exam and discussion then stated perhaps I should go back to my retired dentist for further service. And that they would email my X-rays to me. It's sad that Dr Pokeras the founding dentist left such a reputable establishment in the hands of such an undesirable dentist. Obviously I will not be returning here.

I saw Dr Berger Tuesday 29 April 2014 for a consultation about getting an implant. During my visit…read moreto his office I experienced a few incidents which gave me serious concerns about the quality of care I would get, so I decided not to continue treatment with Dr. Berger. I asked Dr. Berger to cancel the $252.00 fee for the consultation and x-ray since I would have to pay a consultation and x-ray fee to another dentist; I am retired and on a fixed income. Dr. Berger let the bill stand. I also sent a complaint letter to Delta Dental. I ended up paying the full fee. Each incident by itself would be trivial, but together show a pattern of poor communications between staff and lack of training. Dr. Berger's response to my complaint points are at the bottom of this review: 1. When I arrived I told the reception person that I needed the x-rays back that I had brought. She said that Dr. Berger would like to see them. When I consulted with Dr. Berger, he said that I could have them back but that they had to be signed out because they had been signed in. I don't recall seeing any signing in or out. 2. After our initial consultation, Dr. Berger directed me to the x-ray area and said to meet him back in the consultation room. After the x-rays were taken the woman assistant told me to wait in the waiting room. I told her that Dr. Berger had told me to meet him in the consultation room; she then led me to the consultation room. 3. The x-ray procedure was at first done by a man alone who obviously had little or no experience or training with doing the procedure. He instructed me to put my face forward in the frame. I told him that the protruding bite piece was pressing against my jaw so I could not come all the way forward. He adjusted the bite piece height so I could put my face forward against the frame. Next he told me to close my teeth on the ridge in the bite piece. He did not tell me that the ridge in the bite piece was further back from the frame. At this time a woman assistant came over to show the man how to use the pen on the control screen of the x-ray machine. With her guidance I was able to complete the x-ray procedure. 4. I appreciated Dr. Berger's friendly and easy manner during our consultation; however, he told me a few things that I consider "need not to know" for a patient. One item was his explanation of the $75 cost of drills, sometimes one use, and other expenses he has. Another issue was the letter page graphic of multiple implant screw outlines that he pointed to and said this is the one we use. Since he was sitting about 8 feet away I could only seen a bunch of little line drawings. Last fall, during a root canal, the dentist said, "This is hard work; my hands will be shot after this." I am concerned about what Dr. Berger might say when I am very vulnerable during surgery. 5. The last stop was to cover payments and scheduling. During this conversation, the man gave me a photo copy of the backside of the delta dental letter I had given to the reception staff to photo copy. I said to him that this is a photo copy, apparently made during my initial contact with your staff. I did not need the photo copy since I had the original. I pointed out to him that the photo copy did not have my Delta Dental ID# because the wrong side of the notice had been photocopied. The person who did the photo copy did not know to photo copy the front of the notice. The check out man told me that I had brought the wrong sheet. Here is part of Dr. Berger's email response to my complaints, "I have read your letter and I think things went well in our office,,,, I understand what you saw but you don't understand what you didn't see,,, the xrays were checked in and out, Joseph had all your delta info from your social security card, I would discuss your xray in the consult room regardless of what track you took to get there and yes, Ci is relatively new, he has a California xray license and is getting used to new equipment."

Horrible treatment for a senior! This dentist owned office does bad business in my experience. They…read moreowe me the most important appt that I have already paid for. Mostly the problems are with the manager (deception & delayed or no communication) though isn't every owner the one ultimately responsible? If Dr Ellen Pacleb cared about following through on the clinical - administrative end I am sure she would of. They market they will give you a Report of Findings type end visit with the manager who claims clinician experience to do so. Is she an unlicensed technician or dentist of some sort that is able to give findings after assement from what the actually licensed dentist used to give? This being up to half hour (in their office) as your last part of services rendered while establishing care. I never got the complete care promised and even had it scheduled at one point before it was apparent there was no charting notes. Apparently those notes is what usually happens there (of course!) and lends the foundations for the manager to be able to do her last appt with me before treatment with dentist or specialized cleaning all within the office. This could be possibly because I spoke up about it as the office manager decided to attempt to deny access of any future possibilities of that appt just yesterday. Dismissive business folks shouldn't underestimate the ability for a patient to see through the nefarious. Not keeping their word on a critical piece of the post assesment is unethical. Is not that precisely why a person would go to the dentist? To understand clearly what is wrong with our teeth/mouth/gums so we can make an informed consent decision on what to do next? With the clinician and/or overall staff? I even have a family member who was treated haphazardly too. Just last year! They made it so hard for her, also a senior, that she gave up and established elsewhere. In my situation there were not even any chart notes after an extensive visit with the Dr where no information was given to me in real time. Part of the overall office culture in my experience is unprofessionalism. Cutting corners in this business leaves the patient high and dry - unless they advocate like I am in this case. The manager (or Dentist not sure) withheld time sensitive information that I needed a very specialized Dr outside of the office and didn't even have the respect to tell me for a year. And they didn't divulge why (with dx etc) I was recommended this yesterday add on type of care in the first place. Extraordinary poorly managed medical dental office. If you want to be treated like a number and wait a long time for communication that may never come this is your place. They sure are capable it seems in taking your money. There is no cutting corners there. Glad I owe not a penny and have verification of what I just stated above to seek fairness when able.
