We went to this shop this morning for bread rolls, as I'd rather buy rolls from behind the counter…read morethan those on view for people to handle & help them selves. I was absolutely appalled when we asked the assistant what rolls there were, she picked them all up with her hands saying we that we've got these ,or these et , & then proceeded to serve us with the rolls as well as handling money ,the till, and worst of all scratching her ear and hair. I've happy memories of walking the short distance with her from my grandparent's house, I always loved visiting them. She passed away when I turned 5 and has developed attachments with the places I associate her with. I don't know what it was called then but it's over 21 years later and I feel compelled to review it. My dad would always by something called Lardy cake, and it was a tradition that he and mum would stock up on big slabs of it before the long drive back to Manchester. I've been back occasionally since and the last, it still had it's dated retro shelving and 50's feel interior and was still a traditional family bakers. I hope it hasn't changed when I next visit

This is the best bakery for miles around…read more I found Bread Port by accident last week. I wasn't even looking to buy any bread but once in the door got totally carried away! Their Campagne bread is amazing, as is their walnut bread, and even their ordinary white sandwich and wholemeal. Then there are the cakes........ I managed to buy, and eat on the same day, 4 apricot and almond tarts. They were absolutely delicious. I called in today to buy some Sour Dough bread but they had sold out. Bought some other bread and more cakes. My husband said that the Cherry Danish was the best he had ever tasted. I live in Lymington (about 5 miles away) but I will be heading to New Milton on a regular basis to pick up more delicious, and wonderful bread. Sicilian cannoli meaning little tube - a deep fried pastry - around for a thousand years and possibly of Arab heritage - at this time, the Arabs influenced Sicilian baking with the introduction of cinnamon, candied fruits and pistachios. They also introduced the technique of combining nuts and fruits with sugar and honey. So I took a few of each - lemon, chocolate and boy oh boy salted caramel. These are first class products so very tasty with the salted caramel being gloriously great. We also scooped up a few plump meringues one strawberry swirled the other lemon for a sugar hit. Mmnn. Most obviously the Cornish Pasty is advertised, and all sorts of other savoury pastries. In addition they do sandwiches and baguettes. It does seem to be always busy, particularly with youths - I guess this kind of food is filling. It's not a particular favourite of mine at all, but what they do, they do well.
