The follow-ups went well and I felt very confident he knew what he was doing. I really like him personally. Cons: He's speaks very quickly and seems a bit rushed at time, however he will take the time to answer any questions, but prepare your questions first! you might forget when you are in there! Well, after visiting with my Orthopedic, starting PT, amongst other irritants, nothing was working, it was getting worse. An MRI was finally ordered and he instantly informed me this was out of his area, Neurologist was a must. So, MRI, per my Orthopedics recommendation, was sent to Neurological Consultants, specifically, Dr. Marc Friedberg. The practice itself is very clean, nicely located directly behind Norwood Hospital. My first visit, I was greeted nicely by the receptionist, who promptly took all my information and I sat and waited to be called. The waiting area is very large, plenty of periodicals to choose from if need be. I was called right on time and went in to meet the Doctor. Dr. Friedberg is very personable, efficient but most of all, an excellent Doctor. He thoroughly went over my MRI and explained I had a ruptured disc in my C5 and C6. We felt PT and an epi shot would do the trick. well, NOTHING worked. I had to be pulled out of work, I lost feeling at times in my thumb and left pointer finger on my left hand. I could NOT sleep, we are talking three full months, I was just in agony. We finally decided on surgery and it was the best decision I could have made. The surgery was conducted in August 2011 and I am doing well. Even the day of surgery, I felt very comfortable with Dr. Friedberg. The surgery went extremely well. Dr. Friedberg is extremely attentive to his patients needs, he is clearly caring and up to date on all the latest technologies. I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Friedberg for any neurological needs you may have. The only down side, often have to wait 15-20 minutes past scheduled appointment times. I have a feeling this is typical in many DR practices though, he is very busy, but he is fantastic. He suggested he could give me a cortisone shot. Due to me being extremely allergic to Polyethylene Glycol in which I have an anaphylactic reaction (Dr. Phillips is aware of this as it noted in my record.). When he suggested the a cortisone shot my wife and I asked at the same time "Does the shot contain Polyethylene Glycol." His response, "not that I'm aware of". Knowing what happens to me you would think he would review the ingredients. Well Polyethylene Glycol was the main ingredient of the cortisone shot and I had a serious Anaphylactic reaction. I felt sick immediately after the shot and the front desk receptionist brought me to the bathroom and left. My wife came to find me a few minutes later and I was on the floor unconscious. She new immediately what happen. Everyone in office came running and 911 was called. Nobody got an EpI pen, Dr Phillips stood there and said to me, "my husband passed out." I was rushed to Newton Wellesley hospital and it was so severe and was a touch and go situation. Dr. Philllips negligence caused harm and unnecessary body and organ stress to me that could have resulted in death. it would have taken a few minutes to investigate the ingredients in the shot. I reported this to the medical board and they decided not to recommend disciplinary action. He was more or less slapped on hand and the Complaint Committee sent him a letter to "remind him the importance of reviewing and verifying ingredient labels when a specific question is raised by a patient with allergy concern". On top of that, they scheduled multiple sessions even after I told them my work schedule might require me to change or cancel appointments. At no point did anyone mention that there would be fees tied to cancellations. Months later, I suddenly received a bill that ended up being more expensive than the sessions themselves, which was honestly shocking. Transparency matters, especially when it comes to billing and policies. I wish this had been communicated clearly from the beginning.

I was prescribed 12 different supplements to take which was both questioned and ridiculed by my PCP & Functional Medicine Doctor I signed up with shortly after my third appointment with Dr. Lacava. Also when I had a tick bite that was not confirmed to have lyme his solution was to prescribe 600mg of Doxycycline to take daily for 30 days consecutively described as my PCP as the "nuclear option" which he was glad to find out I consulted with him first about this. Lastly we had discussed in my second appt. that he would help me with FMLA paperwork if I was not feeling better by our third appt. I reluctantly went to the third because of the cost and I had not made any progress since the second in the hopes he would keep his word, which at the end of the third he said he could not be "burdened by the paperwork" and to ask my PCP. During this appointment I was informed that I was not taking the correct amount of multivitamins he prescribed which was the sole reason I was not recovering and the other 11 prescribed supplements were ineffective without the multi vitamins. He looked me strait in the face and told me "You just don't want to get better", because I was not taking the correct amount of vitamins, regardless of the thousands of dollars spent on testing and treatment with him I clearly just did not want to get better. I've heard at one time he prescribed adequate care but he has fallen short of his ability as a provider. Don't waste your time, money, or effort here. He should not be trusted with anyone's health.

I'm going to try to break down my experience to a minimum but keep in mind a LOT happened in between but I would need to write a book in order to write everything that I went thru . In 2014 Dr lacava Dx'd me with Lyme disease. Prior to this I saw multiple doctors that treated me horrible, didnt listen to me, treated me like I was just there for the attention, treated me like it was all in my head, this includes the ER, neurology, & Infectious disease. my Primary doctors NP was the one who said "lets just do a lyme test" that started my journey reading about lyme disease and the ineffectiveness of the testing and CDC guidelines etc. I became an expert myself, I found dr lacava who did a whole bunch of blood tests and found i did in fact have lyme. and babesia . treated me for a year with anti malaria, antibiotics and to give you an idea how i felt? I thought i was dying a slow death and even wrote journals to both my kids so they would have something special from me when i was gone. No one but dr lacava LISTENED to me. TESTED me and TREATED me the way I should have been Listened to tested and treated. after a year i finally felt like a living human again . He also did allergy testing and found some things i was sensitive to and should stay away from and i have done just that. his visits were at times, long and tedious with his method of paperwork you have to fill out but worth every minute of my time. Some visits yes i did have to wait but that just shows that he DOES listen to ALL his patients no matter how long it took . he NEVER rushed me EVER.
