This is my dress-up-in-the-week place and fab for a Thursday evening when the weekend is looming and you want to get in the partying mood. There is muted lighting and Chinese lanterns everywhere and the decor is vibrant red and gold. Choy Hing Village takes customer service to the next level. Before your meal and in-between each course, the waiters provide you with steaming hot hand towels and after your starter, they cleanse your palate with refreshing lemon sorbet- beautiful! The staff are extremely attentive and almost treat you like royalty as they refuse to let you lift a finger to serve yourself. This is nice for a while but you begin too feel slightly ashamed that you are letting another person almost spoon feed you. And the food!!! Mum and I shared the oriental platter which at £9 per head, I thought was a bit steep, even though the chicken skewers and spare ribs were delicious. As a group of three we had sweet and sour chicken, beef satay and the crispy chilli beef which I would encourage all Yelpers out there to try. Choy Hing Village is more than your local Chinese restaurant, it assumes an air of grandeur and you feel almost honoured to be in its presence. We went on a Thursday night and although the majority of the tables were full, this is such a spacious restaurant that diners do not feel crowded at all. Chinese background music adds to the authenticity of the restaurant and you leave feeling happy and relaxed. It is a takeaway to but the experience actually dining here is too nice to miss. Expect to pay approximately £20 per head here and to have a good time.

I have never eaten out on Christmas Eve before and after this experience I don't think I ever will…read moreagain. Such a shame as the food is really good but they seem more interested in money at all costs. On booking I was told that I needed to pay a deposit of £10 per person which I was fine with as it must be a busy night. They said I would need to pay this before Christmas Eve or my table would not be guaranteed. They rang me a few days before to check and I went down and paid the deposit. On arrival our table was downstairs even though I was told when I booked it would be upstairs. I queried this with a male waiter who confirmed we had the table downstairs. We then spent the whole of the THREE HOUR meal with people queuing for their takeaways right round our table. And some of them were waiting a considerable time. For having to pay for an inflated priced set menu anyway this didn't feel like the nice dining experience you'd expect. The food took ages as they had obviously kept taking takeaway orders and were not prioritizing the restaurant diners. My son and husband ended up having to leave as it had gotten so late which was disappointing. There were no apologies for the delay at all at any point. Just kept on asking if we wanted more drinks. The drinks are expensive too. They presented the bill without the deposit taken off. Then I was asked to sign a receipt and the order book when I asked for it to be taken off. I said that the service had been really slow and the waitress just laughed. Not a care that we were disappointed. I got home and showed the receipt to my husband who immediately said that I'd been overcharged. I couldn't even face going back at this point so he went back only to be told that they had been trying to call me. Completely untrue as I had no missed calls on my mobile and they had the right number as they had called me earlier in the week. They gave him the £42 cash. Just try to use one of the £1 coins to be told it was a Euro. Just embarrassing and at this point not even surprised. I suppose when you are the only restaurant in a small village and have the monopoly it doesn't matter when people aren't happy. Food is really nice but check what you are being charged.
