We were pleased with the lake- it is a beautiful little place, though we did not have much luck fishing today like others had yesterday. I like that the lake area has a snack bar and they offer hot chocolate (even with mini marshmallows and chocolate drizzle!), which warmed me up since it was a bit chilly out. There are clean restrooms, a paved walking path, and the parking lot, restrooms, and snack bar are all at the lakes edge. There is a river that runs adjacent to the side of the lake we were on, which was beautiful too. We would come here again.

Not much shade though so it can get hot there. Right in the center of town and easy to find. I like to sit out on the concrete landing at the river bank by the Hwy47 bridge and just contemplate life for a while. I stop at Vernonia a couple of times a year for a street photography afternoon and have been doing so for decades. Meth and those who use it is a serious problem around here so pay attention to your surroundings. I've only had one serious problem in all the time I've been coming to Vernonia but it went sideways in one big hurry. Situational awareness is always important and even more so in this burb.

Sweeping views of Vernonia and the fields around the park. The Wedding was in The Scouts Lodge at the park. Built in 1928. Destroyed by the Flood of 1996. Friends of The Scout Cabin formed in 1997 to rebuild the cabin and construction was completed in the year 2000. The whole project came out really nice. Lots of updates and of course, it could use a few more. Just the same. The ceremony was held out back of the cabin in the Gazebo. The reception, inside the cabin. Dorie, the camp host (and her husband) were very welcoming and friendly. Felt totally secure leaving our tent and gear set up at the Site while riding into 'town for dinner. (Hosts were out and about) Also - the campground had WiFi service - really!

This City park is very nice. It is on the Banks Vernonia bike Trail. The RV campsites are close…read moretogether but in a gorgeous setting. It is very clean and the camp hosts go above and beyond. I lost a glove and walked back to our campsite after we left to look for it. Several hours later the camp host called to see what we might have lost since someone had seen me looking around and they checked to see if it was anything important. They also let us do a late checkout since the nest place we were going was only half an hour away and discouraged early checkins. It also is in easy walking distance to restaurants, grocery stores, and a hardware store, we needed antifreeze which thank goodness they had since the nighttime temp was 26 degrees.
