I recently joined Dr. Parravi's practice. I've been going to her for about a year now. She is hands down my favorite dental practice I have been to. After moving to the Bay Area, I've been looking for a dentist that takes her work very seriously but is also kind. She is both. She works so diligently on teeth but it also feels like I am catching up with a friend at each visit. I look forward to my appointments. I've also been looking to do Invisalign to correct my teeth since my teeth have been shifting since I didn't wear my retainer after having braces as a child. I went to see Parravi in 2018. It's now 5 years later and I'm still paying for her problems. I wrote this review 2 years ago, got asked to take it down, and I did, but I just went to a new dentist who gave me some bad news (stemming from parravi's negligence) that made me compelled to write this yet again. TLDR I had 3 cavities when I came in. she filled 2 of them poorly (and I have to get them redone) but sufficiently, and 1 VERY poorly. gave me medical-grade teeth whitener (insurance money?) and told me I can use it right after i got my fillings. turns out you can't and it went into my nerves and up my face, causing an eye twitch for months (which she vehemently denied could be her fault in the slightest). other dentists I've seen since said they'd never recommend teeth whitening so soon after a filling. i ended up having to get a crown for that tooth. turns out now there's decay on my gums around there and I need surgery and an implant. there's so much more I can say about her negligence but years of therapy for this situation is telling me to save my breath. The cherry on top was that in the last piece of mail she sent me (when she was trying to ameliorate the situation) she was able to mess up my name by missing two letters and switching out one. I only have eight letters in my full name, how do you mess up that bad? how do you have such little attention to detail as a doctor? I'm positive these reviews are fake because when I called the dental board to file a complaint, there were already 2-3 ppl ahead of me. would not wish her upon my worst enemy. read more

She specializes in cosmetic dentistry--her own words. It's a nice place and a nice dentist, but I would highly caution anyone against getting cavities filled here. I am new to the area and chose this place purely based on the high yelp rating without doing much research. After this experience, I decided to look into the dental industry as a whole and learned that diagnosing dental problems isn't as regulated or straightforward as I thought. Some dentists are more conservative when recommending dental work, while some over-treat. I have my suspicions that I was overtreated and overcharged, and unfortunately have permanent damage to my teeth. I had an appointment with her last year October 2020. I originally only planned to do a teeth cleaning with Dr. Parravi. She suggested to do some crazy amount of fillings. Naively, I went along with her recommendation and did ended up with like 12 fillings on my left side alone. My previous dentist whom I've seen since childhood had never done more than 5 on my mouth in one visit.... I have NEVER had issues with tooth sensitivity, but after she did fillings, I have constant pain when biting on my left side now. I brought this up with her, and she reviewed my xrays but did not find anything of concern. This is apparently a pattern in other peoples' reviews. I didn't return to do my right side since the pain on my left side never went away. read more

I've been going to Dr. Negar Parravi for a little over a year now and every time I go, it has been an exceptional experience. First off, Dr. Parravi does the cleanings herself. It is very rare to get a cleaning done by an actual dentist. The cleanings are consistently throughout and she is familiar with my specific dental health. Dr. Parravi really takes the time to educate her patients as well. I learned how to floss properly which no other dentist had taken the time to teach me. My gum health has improved tremendously which I now know is tied to other health outcomes. She also made me a mouthguard which has improved my sleeping. She had it made in about a week and worked directly with my insurance to get it for me at a low cost. Scheduling is pretty easy as is billing. You'll get a confirmation text before your appointment which is great. If you are looking for a highly knowledgeable. kind, and reliable dentist, look no further. I'm satisfied with the dental work I received, but there is room for improvement around punctuality and patient privacy. Yelp's guidance for 2 stars is "could've been better", and my experience certainly could've been better. Dr. Parravi has a helpful system that sends SMS reminders so you don't miss your appointment. Unfortunately, she didn't seem to have her own schedule under control, and missed or was late for 3 of my 4 appointments. The excuses she offered were not really acceptable reasons to miss an appointment. Mistakes happen, but I can't ignore a pattern. It's important to me that my dentist treats my time with respect. She also has apparent HIPAA violations in her responses to reviews here. I should not be learning about how many fillings Erika R. had. That is unethical, and probably illegal. Perhaps she didn't realize her replies were public? Dr Parravi was late to my new patient appointment. She assured me that I would not be billed for the xrays. Surprise! Insurance didn't cover it and I got billed for the xrays. When I requested those xrays to be sent to another dental office, they got angry with me and refused to send them. I had several visits with Dr. Parravi many years ago. I was new to the Bay Area and was somewhat naive about dentistry. Dr. Parravi seemed really nice and her office was beautiful and conveniently located near my work so I chose her practice. As for the work that was done, she replaced my amalgam fillings with resin ones. I'm not sure that was necessary but I went with it not really knowing any better. I started thinking of going to a different dentist however when she pointed out a large number of cavities that needed filling by visual inspection. After moving and switching to a different dentist in the South Bay, I was pleased to learn the fillings she recommended were not necessary, though I did have to get several of my resin fillings redone only a couple years later. She also performed a root canal for me, which I knew I needed. The procedure itself went ok, but it got infected several years later and I had to get it redone by an endodontist that I was referred to by my current dentist. Fortunately this second root canal was successful, otherwise I would have needed an implant. It makes me sad but based on better experiences with my new dentist, who is more conservative in her approach and willing to refer to specialists for more complex procedures, I can't say I recommend this office. read more

I have been going to this dentist for 2 years. I really lived their personality and the flexibility w payments. While under her care, I had 1 root canal (which the crown is too big for my tooth). My husband also had a root canal, some fillings and my 6 year old son had 5 cavities (which didn't exist a year prior). Anyways, my husband did not like her service but continued to go per my urging. Bad idea. My son freaked out during a second session of fillings and my husband who was there with him said the dentist yelled at him and accident my cut his cheek with a tool. I brushed it off as his squirming in the chair. 4 months later, My son complains of pain and when I look, has a very large abscess that required his tooth be extracted in an emergency procedure. This was a tooth that was "filled" by this dentist.Today I accompanied my husband to the dentist for a toothache and low and behold, a tooth that was treated by this Dentist is infected as well and he has to have another procedure to fix it. I wanted to love this dentist but after 2 emergency visits to the dentist to repair her work and about $2000 out of pocket, my family will not be returning. read more

My first visit to her dental office was only about a year ago and each time (have been to her office about 4 times now), I was greeted courteously and treated professionally by her staff. They are always very informative and explain each step of the procedures (for me this has been mostly cleanings, fillings, and one crown replacement) that were being proposed. Dr. Parravi is very gentle, meticulous, and engaging. She goes all the way to make sure that you feel comfortable throughout your entire visit. Several times, I asked to take a few breaks since my jaw was a bit in pain, and she did not seem to be bothered at all. Always making sure my needs were met. Smiling while asking the necessary questions to get a better understanding of my dental history and how to meet my needs and suggest the best options for me. She made sure that I experienced as little pain as possible and was not rushed while working on my teeth. I am not difficult to please, however I do appreciate great customer service, professionalism, and delivering exceptional results. I felt all of my expectations were met. I would also like to add that I have gotten the BEST cleaning ever here! I just recently made the switch to Dr. Parravi and have nothing but positive things to say about her and her staff. Dr. Parravi is a nice dentist, but I've had much better work other places. More importantly, when I showed up for my cavity fillings, the procedure was much more extensive than was originally presented. For example, I was not told that the front two teeth would have large holes drilled into them - this caused a mild freak out while lying in the chair. I have had to go back once to get a tooth adjusted, normal procedure - but the 'fix' only made the problem worse. I have another tooth that is still super sensitive to anything - but am going back to my original dentist. Great for a cleaning - not great for more detailed work. Assistants can be pushy. read more

I recently made the switch to Dr. Negar Parravi and have nothing but positive things to say about her. I am from the East Bay and I make a trip to see her twice a year in the Menlo Park. She has been my dentist for the past five years. Why do I drive that far to see a dentist? BECAUSE SHE IS THAT GOOD! I personally have never seen a dentist that is more thorough with a dental exam and dental procedures than her! Many dentists that I've been to in the past either rush to get you out, try to upsell you on cosmetic services, or procedures that you may not need. What I like about Dr. Parravi and her staff is that she is honest, personable, and professional. She also pointed out other things about my teeth that other dentists in the past have missed including how to properly floss deep into the gums. I also had implant surgery done by Dr. Parravi recently. Her fees were very reasonable compared to other dentists and it was painless, simple, and the procedure felt pretty routine. As for the facility, There is plenty of parking, the office is very modern and clean, and there is even a relaxation fountain, water, and magazines while you wait! I highly recommend Dr. Negar Parravi and have referred many of my friends to her practice. My husband and I've been patients since moving to the Bay Area 4 years ago, and always happy with our visits. I highly recommend Dr. Parravi. (As a matter of fact, a couple of our friends have become Dr. Parravi's patients after our recommendation.) A few words about my dental history: I am one of those people who is almost obsessive with their teeth's cleanliness and health. I regularly floss my teeth throughout the day, and I brush and rinse twice a day. One of the reasons why I am so meticulous about my teeth is that I don't have much strong teeth genetically. So, compared to many people I know (both family and friends) who don't pay even one tenth of the attention that I pay to my teeth, I, unfortunately, do get more new cavities and stains. That means, every six months, when I visit Dr. Parravi, she is doing some dental work in addition to the regular scheduled cleaning, which is also done by her. The most serious job she did for me was a root canal. I had that treatment done right before al trip overseas, and per D. Parravi's advice, I had to see another dentist in Turkey for some follow-up work. I visited my sister's dentist, who is also a very well-known and respected dentist in his city, and after a through check-up, he complimented on the great job done with my root canal. I had the absolute worst experience ever with this dentist. 6 months later, and I still have issues from a few fillings she did. One popped out the same day it was filled. The bite was so horribly aligned and I eventually found out that this was the source of much of the pain. And then another one of the fillings popped out. One I went back for the pain, the first thing she jumped to was a root canal. Luckily I refused and went to a different dentist who worked with the situation and avoided the root canal. I am very, very suspicious of how this dentist over treats. I can't believe how much pain, stress, and problems one visit costed.
