I have always wanted to learn how to quilt and decided to move forward with this dream. I found a 2-day beginners Quilting course at Needles & Bolts on Germantown Avenue in Mt. Airy via a google search. The Quilting course ran for 6 hours on Saturday and Sunday; and Sidney was our instructor. Can I just say, this was a GREAT experience and I am so glad I moved forward with fulfilling my dream!
Quilting on its face is intimidating to most, including me. Thank goodness for our instructor - Sidney as she was VERY patient with us and extremely knowledgeable about Quilting. As a point of reference, the last time I touched a sewing machine was about 45 years ago (when I was in 8th or 9th grade). We were given a tutorial about the sewing machines and quilting, overall. This was very helpful. NOTE: we were given the option of bringing our own sewing machine to the course or using one provided by Needles & Bolts. This was a PLUS to me as I do not own a sewing machine and wanted to first evaluate whether I can see myself engaging in future quilting and/or sewing before investing in a sewing machine.
I am very proud of myself in that I was able to ACTUALLY complete a "baby quilt." by the end of the 2 days.
Needles & Bolts is a very quaint shop. Everything you need for the course can be purchased in the shop. Prices are great and the owner, Stella was very helpful when I was trying to select fabric to go with fabric squares I purchased (and used in my quilt) while recently in Cape Town, South Africa.
Hands down - best experience! Highly recommended. Looking forward to taking other courses going forward. Attached are pics of the front and back of my quilt (Picture one - fabrics sewn together after day 1; Pictures 2 and 3 - front and back of my quilt - just need to hand sew the binding (orange border).
AGAIN, NEEDLES & BOLTS is highly recommended. Thanks Sidney & Stella read more
