My new favorite hair spot! My first time going, and I walked in thinking of a hair saloon only to start thinking it's a spa. I was welcomed by a sweet lady at the front desk. And then I spent a few minutes picking out a scent for my neck massage - that's right, you get an amazing neck massage with your hair cut! Then I met my new stylist Morgan. What a sweetheart. She totally listened to what I want, as I was doing a big cut of about 8 inches. Of course, doing a big cut you get a little nervous but Morgan put me at ease. Then you get an amazing hair wash - with even a hand massage while you get your hair washed. I loved the eye mask, perfect touch. Then Morgan got started with my cut. I knew before she was finished I would love the cut. She did a great job with checking in to make sure it was exactly what I wanted and she hit it out of the park. This used to be my favorite salon in Louisville, but unfortunately, things have gone downhill. The appointment started 15 minutes late as the stylist finished up with the previous client. She had another stylist assist with shampooing and blow drying while she continued to work on the prior client. It seemed she was correcting an error another stylist had made. During the blow drying process the young woman did not spray any heat protection or anything to assist with detangling and repeatedly tugged and ripped my hair out. After waiting for several minutes, the original stylist returned to spend 5 minutes cutting my hair. When I got home, my husband noticed multiple uneven pieces that he had to cut himself to try and even it out for me. This whole service cost me $100 and I am confident I could have had a better experience at Great Clips. I have been coming to Neatbeat for around 10 years, and generally had a positive experience despite seeing multiple stylists over the years, so that made today's experience all the more disappointing. I understand the need to train new employees, but prices should reflect that. read more

I loved coming here. Staff is wonderful and send adorable thank you cards. Good deals and offers. However, I heard how the manager speaks to her staff and this is the problem with a lot of places. People put bad reviews about the staff but never think about a management issue. That is the problem here! All stylists were great but all of a sudden I walked in and no one from my previous visit worked there anymore. They left because of how they were being treated. They looked burnt out and sad. I'm a little disappointed in the range of stylists at neatbeat. I have curly hair (3b) and I mentioned that I had curly hair during scheduling via their online messaging service. After waiting for my stylists to be ready for about 15-20 minutes I was told that she didn't know how to cut curly hair. I appreciated her honestly, but I was really let down by this. She scheduled me with the one stylist that they knew had some experience with curly hair, and then still tried to sell me products. Given that I asked about curly hair stylists when scheduling, maybe I should have just been scheduled with the only stylist that knows how to deal with curls from the get go so I didn't waste my evening. Again I appreciate the honestly of them stylist I was assigned , but this is the first time in my 30 years I have ever been turned away from a hair cut. I think moving forward it would be really beneficial to employ a staff that has a wider range of abilities as not everyone has straight, untextured hair. I think that if you have straight hair, it is probably a lovely salon experience but fair warning to my curly girls- don't waste your time. Haircuts... Gah. I am such a wanderer when it comes to salons. I've gone to cheap ones; I've gone to expensive ones. I really loved the haircuts I was getting at the last (pricey) salon I went to a few times. However, my haircuts are pretty simplistic, and I do not dye my hair, so I felt it unnecessary to spend so much money for a little snip-snip. So I decided to try something new recently--Neatbeat Hair Salon! I was able to get an appointment only about a week out, though I would recommend booking earlier (just in case). When I arrived, I was greeted by name on a sign outside, a very neat (Punny!) interior, and a friendly staff! I was offered a beverage and filled out a cute little survey during my brief wait for my "artist"--Alexa. (Also, they encourage selfies in their adorable bathroom, but I'll leave that for you to learn more about.) When Alexa sat me down to get started, we talked about what I wanted out of my experience and she also pleasantly surprised me when letting me know they start everyone out with a neck massage. Ummm... YES!!! Just what I needed. She then shampooed my hair and even more pampering happened with a hot eye pillow and hand massage! I am obsessed with massages, so at this point I knew it was Neatbeat love for me! I had also scheduled a brow wax, so Alexa did that next after a warning from me about how out of control my brows are. She impressed me with her careful attention to detail; because my brows are crazy, that detail was greatly appreciated and exactly what they needed. After that, it was time for the cut ($29). It was quick, easy, and more inexpensive than the place I had gone a couple times just prior. Plus, it turned out looking fresh and just like I wanted and needed. After cutting, Alexa offered to curl my hair and gave me some (much-needed) styling tips. Between all of the pampering, I was feeling great as I left. Speaking of that, while this is an Aveda salon with plenty of products available, I really appreciated not feeling pressured to buy products (and that then makes me more willing to buy products if needed in the future, personally). Also, if you check in on Yelp at Neatbeat, you can get a little free goodie, so make sure to show them your check in before you leave. I was very impressed with Neatbeat and gladly scheduled my next up appointment before leaving! A couple days after my visit, I received a sweet handwritten note in the mail from Alexa. What a sweet crew! I'm already excited about those neck and hand massages, respectively, during my next visit. ;) And as if Neatbeat couldn't get better, it is right beside Mussel&burger bar... Absolutely amazing staff, super friendly and knowledgable. I was very tired of going to a barber, getting asked 1 or 2 questions and getting a mediocre cut that I didn't want. My stylist, Cassidy, was not only super receptive of what I wanted but creative and knowledgable with hair as well. She didn't let me leave until I was 100% satisfied. The stylist herself would have netted 4 stars, even if neatbeat was a mediocre salon, but that is not the case at all. The entire vibe of this salon is very warm. I used to be in love with this salon and could justify spending an exorbitant amount of money, because I was not only treated like a princess and taken care of, but the color and cut was on point. Unfortunately, I can't say the same any more. The stylist I usually visited has since left, but I wanted to give Neatbeat the benefit of the doubt and try to go and see someone else (because like I said, I used to be in love with this salon). The staff there are very nice and listen to you and what you want, but in my experience with Gabrielle my color just did not turn out the way I wanted. I had been very specific in the kind of color I wanted and said I wanted the warmth out of my hair. I left the salon feeling like I had wasted $230, because I didn't get the result I wanted and had agreed upon. She did a pretty good job on my cut, but my hair still looked like different shades and tones of blonde (which I had asked to make it a lot more uniform and fix that before our appointment started). I'm really sad this was my experience because I thought I had found a salon I could depend on. The salon is beautiful, the staff is nice, and they pamper you, but the actual service of getting the correct color was not there. I have to preface this by saying I'm pretty picky about my haircut because everyone seems to just miss the mark, which is why I've been cutting my own hair for about 8 years. I recently moved, tossed my scissors and decided to give a salon a try. This place is located in Hurstbourne right next to the Mussel and Burger. The interior is trendy and they're very accommodating. The girl at the front desk got me a hot tea while I waited though this became pretty cumbersome because then you're bringing it with you everywhere you go. I had a wash with shampoo and scalp massage that was nice. It also included a hand and wrist massage, which frankly, just felt like the girl was doing it just to get it over with. My haircut was fine but was shorter than I wanted and the back was exactly how I said I didn't want it. All of it was $52. It was a nice experience in the sense that it confirmed I should go back to cutting my own hair. But at least now I know. read more

My experience with Neatbeat has been five star all the way. Everyone is friendly when they greet you at the door, offering a drink while you settle in and taking your coat if need be. The recent renovations have made over the place completely, giving it the look of some of the nicer New York salons I've been to: it's very light, open and welcoming. If there was one thing I had to change, I think they could use some new styling chairs. But now onto what and who I like most. I've had the same stylist since I started going here, the lovely Ms Paige. She's wonderful for her skills and for how well she listens to my needs and answers my questions. I feel like she really cares about making me feel pretty and happy with my look. She also shows me how to use the products so I can get the salon look she gives me at home. I always look forward to my appointments because I know I'll get a great haircut and color, but also because I get pampered with an aromatherapy neck and hand massage. I first went to Neatbeat over a year ago when I was referred to a stylist who worked there. I was immediately in love! Neatbeat has an incredibly fun atmosphere and the space itself is beautiful! My stylist Morgan was as sweet as they come and I was so pampered with neck and hand/arm massages and warm eye pillows while my color set. I went home and told my boyfriend I would never got to another salon again (foreshadowing). Unfortunately, many talented stylists including my own, left Neatbeat. I was heartbroken to see Morgan go, but since I knew another stylist there, I decided to stay. I'm getting married in 5 months and two months ago I submitted the contact form on Neatbeat's website asking for information about booking a couple stylists to do hair and makeup for myself and my bridal party for the wedding! What followed for the next two months was perhaps the least professional interaction I experienced throughout the entire wedding planning process. My phone calls and emails would be unanswered. Every time I requested information or an update, I would have to follow up again a week later. I was often referred to someone else, or given instructions that were different from what I had already been told. In short, it was an unorganized mess - which is the opposite of what any bride wants for their wedding day! After the whole ordeal, it turned out they didn't have enough stylists for my wedding party, which may be a blessing in disguise because I was so put off by their unprofessional communication. I will not be returning to Neatbeat for future appointments. I am a little sad to leave this salon because I truly enjoyed the experience, when I was there - but I value professionalism too much remain a customer. read more

I went to this salon a couple of times, and they have late hours, which is amazing. BUT, on my last trip to the salon, I was my stylists last appointment and she rushed through my hair cut. She made side comments about how hard tangled my curly hair was, and rolled her eyes when I told her I don't frequently brush my hair. My curls are very intense at the bottoms, so I understand the frustration. I was already nervous because I have very long hair, and she was barely paying attention while she cut my hair. She was too busy talking with her friends about their "after work sushi date". Then, she mentioned to them that she would be late, and basically hinted it was because of me. I felt so awkward and uncomfortable. I haven't been back since that night. I left the salon feeling awful. She convinced me to cut 5 inches of hair off, so I left the salon shocked at my "short" hair and was basically trying to run out, since I felt like such an inconvenience to her. She seemed so sweet at first. I definitely don't recommend her now. I'm pretty sure she only smiled once, then entire time I was her client. I'm pretty bummed because this salon is ADORABLE, and has a great atmosphere. I needed to reschedule a hair appointment with my usual hairdresser, but she wasn't able to get me in for another month after my initial date. I thought this was the perfect opportunity to try out Neatbeat, a salon I'd heard so many good things about. Neatbeat was able to get me in quickly and when I needed to update my appointment again to make it even sooner, that wasn't a problem. Upon arrival, I was offered a drink and filled in some information on a form, including who my favorite singers were, my hobbies, etc. I thought that was a nice touch: it seemed as if they were interested in getting to know you as a person instead of just your hair. My appointment was with Meredith and she did a great job on my hair. The color she used matched perfectly what I already have. I also enjoyed the neck and hand massages. One thing that really stuck out to me was that they booked your next appointment while your color is processing. I really liked that! It's annoying to try to pay, fumble through your purse and calendar, and book your next appointment at the same time. I've never seen this done before and it seems like such a no-brainer, but I guess it's typically not! I was hoping this would be a bit cheaper than my normal appointments, but it was about the same, if not more. I've never been charged separately for toner, so I'm not accustomed to that. I have never in my life been so disappointed in a salon as much I have with Neatbeat. I was very excited to find a salon in Louisville because I had just moved here. During my appointment I specifically told Brooke no highlights. My goal was to lighten my hair all over. After the styling I realized that I had highlights on only top of my head. I was mortified when I got home! I was too embarrassed to even go to work the next day. I called the salon the next morning and explained to them that the bottom of my hair had no change at all and the receptionist stated that she had down for a PARTIAL. I have been to this salon about five times prior to this experience and always had a fantastic time and loved my hair. I was hesitant to come back because the 2 stylists I saw before are no longer with the salon, along with a few others being gone as well. I was getting suspicious as to why everyone was leaving and had me questioning the quality of the new employees who all suddenly had a mid-level rank at the salon. This time I got a haircut by Brooke and had a horrible outcome. I only got about 2 inches off and I thought everything was fine after she had curled my hair (horrible job curling, they were all gone when I got home, but my hair is really flat so I was okay with that). The next day I realized the left side had strands of hair that were not cut the same length at all!! Also, there were randomly longer strands of hair on that side as well. She had a hard time understanding how I part my hair and kept changing it and getting her left and right mixed up. I even moved the strands that were longer over to the other side to see if that was what happened, and no it wasn't. She failed to closely look at my hair and cut it properly. She also left my hair feeling really dry and frizzy, which hasn't happened in the past. While having the hair cut, I noticed other stylists seemed to be acting much less professional then the previous staff. I would recommend this place to people all the time before, but now I will tell them to stay away! Having pretty decor and a smiling staff is pointless if your staff can't cut hair. The owner seems to be busy with her other business ventures and has forgotten she owns a salon. The salon is expensive. I don't mind paying up for quality, but that is not find here anymore. So when I finally decided it was time to cut my long hair and switch to bangs I looked at some reviews and chose Neatbeat! I loved it, it was a great experience, and I'll definitely go back. I love their hours, they work great for those of us who work until 5. I called on a Tuesday and they were able to fit me in on Thursday of the same week! Tara was my stylist and she was awesome! This was my first hair experience since moving to Louisville from Houston two months ago. Setting up the appointment online was difficult at best, took several tries to get a response via their online "contact us" option. Once the appointment was established I met the young lady that was going to color, cut and style my hair. I had no idea she was new to the industry and needed guidance each step of the way till I didn't get the exact color option that I explained in detail, showed pictures, and literally had to stop her from cutting my long layers into a short layered mess. After that debacle, I asked to meet with an extension's person, waited three hours to talk to someone and then the girl I met with was less then sympathetic to my situation. She sat me down in the chair, looked at my now extremely short layered choppy hair and said, " best you can do is let it just grow out"! I paid the $300.00 bill and left. I typically drive 45-60 minutes every 8 weeks to get my hair done at a salon I went to in college because I love the way my hairstylist did my hair. Due to the long drive and limited amout of time I have had lately, I decided to follow the recommendation of my friend to try out NeatBeat. Five minutes into my appointment I was so glad I listened to her. The hairstylists aka "artists" at NeatBeat are truly focused on pleasing the customer from the time you enter the building till you leave. I was greeted by the receptionist and offered a drink and snacks, (Try the cucumber water...so refreshing) while I waited for my artist, Jenna. When Jenna was ready for me, she sat me down in the chair and listened to what I wanted to do to my hair and looked at my Pinterest pictures. After she listened to me, she called a couple of other artists over to bounce ideas off of. It was really neat to see how they truly worked as a team. After coming up with a plan for my hair, Jenna gave me a neck massage (AMAZING), then started working on my hair. After she did the partial highlight, I was taken back to the "Love Shack" to be shampooed. Back in the Love Shack, I was given an eye pillow and hand massage. To top it off, the hand massage occurred at the same time as I was being shampooed. It was so relaxing!!!!! After my experience at the Love Shack, I had already decided I was coming backl, this was even before I had seen my hair. After Jenna dried and styled my hair, I was even more in love with NeatBeat. I went to Neat Beat last Fall and honestly forgot all about it until I got a random email newsletter tonight. Ironically, even though I didn't agree to be on an email list, this prompted me to remember to review the place, which they probably won't be thrilled about. I called Neat Beat because, even after years in Louisville, I have yet to find a good stylist. They were polite, their website was good, I was hopeful. When I got there I realized this was a place for upper middle class Moms who wanted something "zany" or "wild" (you know like thick 90's era blond streaks), and not a place where they really wanted to connect with a client to help them get a great new look. They were polite enough, even though I obviously didn't fit their normal client base. They did a version of what I asked, without so much as a question or suggestion. My hair came out completely forgettable, and a little too short. Price wise this isn't a bargain, and the rates suggest you're getting a stylist, not just a super cuts style job in a nicer looking shop. Overall I was really disappointed. I'm giving two stars because they didn't do anything "wrong," but in an industry built on service, uniqueness, and creating a lasting impression, Neat Beat failed every test. Too bad. Oh, plus, I have crazy thick (Irish) hair, and I told the receptionist when I made the appointment I sometimes take longer than a standard appointment (for which I tip handsomely). After reading the reviews, which were very good, I decided to try this salon. First off it was very clean and nice and relaxing! Everyone was very nice and courteous. The price i was given online was not the case. I got in there and the price immediately went up almost 200$. My hair was at my shoulders and what I was asking wasn't too much. she said she could do what I wanted and got started. Turned out she couldn't. Once she dried my hair and realized none of the highlights took and my hair was way darker than I asked. I had already been there two hours at this point and needed to pick my daughter up but she had messed my hair up and offered to fix it if I could give her some more time so I made arrangements and agreed. She did not fix it and rushed the second time around. Not to mention dyed my hair back to back. Still charged me full price. I was too scared to say anything because she did say she could fix it so I agreed tand it still wasn't what I asked for. I walked out 300$ wasted and hating my hair. I tried to fix it myself at home and now my hair is ruined. I'm very upset with the outcome.
