Within a few weeks of living at the Plaza, he came to life, making friends, looking much healthier, taking care of personal hygiene, all of which hadn't been happening for at least a year in the other place. To our delight and surprise, she rallied and thrived under the attention and loving care she received there for the next 4 1/2 years, passing recently at 103. It is an immaculately maintained bright sunny house with individual bedrooms and comfortable, homey living spaces that are brightly decorated at holidays. There is a pleasant back yard area where clients can enjoy warm days. It is family run, very efficient and responsive to needs of family and relatives as well as the fortunate people who receive care here. Having witnessed first hand from hundreds of visits at different times over the years, I can say this is an exceptional, life-affirming board and care home that I cannot recommend highly enough. One of the excellent caregivers throughout her stay, Martinez could always get a response, long after she no longer recognized family members. I believe she felt safe, cared for and loved, which I observed other clients responded to as well. I've recently began taking an excellent Spanish language class that meets weekly and love using the salt water pool that's heated to 85 degrees! I began a program that screened all the fine documentary films of Amanda Pope who had recently retired after a 30- year career at USC's School of Cinema teaching both directing & documentary film making. Amanda introduced her films & shared fascinating "behind the scenes" info. She also stays to do a Q&A with the audience post screening. I really wanted to give Belmont a 4.5 rating, but there was no option to do so. There is no perfect, but aside from a dining room with poor acoustics, I think it's a great place to find companionship, a stimulating environment and an opportunity to have great fun and continue growing as we age! Before signing off, I must note that the well trained staff gets great credit for taking such good care of us. Many young people are available to help us with technology, the house keepers become good friends, the drivers get us to appointments on time and the engineers are great at fixing things in our apartments. I cared for my mom from home the 10 months before I placed her in Santa Monica Pavillion in 2017…read more As she neared the end, she needed round the clock care that I couldn't provide while also having to work. I was grateful to find a facility to get her into quickly. The staff was nice enough and the residents were what one normally sees at a convalescent home, confused and in pain. My mom was no different. She died 8 days after being placed in the home. Since she had been there only 8 days, we were due a refund of about 1/3 of what we paid to get her into the place. My mom was poor and caring for her all year was an emotional and financial burden on me; I could really have used that money, especially with the cremation still to come. I reached out to the facility to get the $1000 they owed. The staff gave me a number that goes straight to an anonymous voicemail. No body will call me back. I sent a letter and it was returned saying no body was there to receive it. My aunt stopped by, only to be told the staff didn't know anything about it and to call the same, dead end phone number they gave me. As a bereaving daughter, I would have appreciated some integrity and grace from someone in charge.

Very little attention paid to residents, very little response to family inquiries/complaints. The residence is badly in need of an overhaul. I hate to think what would happen in case of a fire or other emergency in case of evacuation. The so-called "afternoon tea" is leftover cake from the night before. In all the time my parent was there I met and talked to many residents and their families and no one said anything complimentary which makes me think the good reviews posted here are not genuine.
