After today (that was Nov 20, 2024), I've decided that I can no longer be a patient here. I can't say it has anything in particular to do with the care I received but rather a series of events that just didn't go well for me. When I selected this practice, I thought I would be going to an office downtown on Arch Street but then I got an email confirmation but the address was at the Navy Yard. I never would have opted for that because of the drive however I went anyway. The office was beautiful and the views amazing as each station faces the river. The commute however was viscous and as such made me super irritated and anxious, a mood I don't want to be in when settling in to have my teeth worked on. Scheduling follow up appointments was also a chore with timing and miscommunication about what I was scheduled for. I was there to have a cracked tooth repaired but a cleaning kept taking precedence until I made it clear I wanted the bad tooth addressed first. I do give them much credit for the referral to Excel Endodontics for the root canal and the fabulous crown they were able to create because it was not easy. But even after all that I got a text saying my claim was being denied because I had a North Carolina address on my paperwork. Not sure how that happened but it was too much. I hate going to the dentist so I just need an easier experience in the future. read more

Dr Matarazzo has done extensive dental work for me, and I wouldn't go to anyone else.

Sadly, after using Dr. Milici for well over 25 years, I had to switch dentists. I went there for my quarterly cleaning only to learn my Hygienist Christine refused to get the vaccine. I was already in the chair when I noticed she was double masked and was going on about Covid and how it's peoples' freedom to refuse the vaccine. I then realized she may not be vaccinated so I just had to ask her and she said she refused. I immediately sat up, told her how profoundly disappointed I was in her and immediately left the office. She offerred to have another staff person clean my teeth that was vaccinated and I said no. I am still incredibly shocked that Dr. Milici would put her staff's poor decisions above the safety of her patients. I decided to try my spouses dentist at Starr Dentistry in Phoenixville , PA. It was a real struggle getting Dr. Milici's office to send over recent X-Rays. I literally had to call three times. When they finally did, they were from 2017. I finally got an appointment and met with my new dentist. I informed her that I had been told by Dr. Milici that I needed 2 crowns replaced and needed to keep quarterly appointments to address my gum disease. It was then I learned about the 2017 X-rays and that I needed a new full set. Following the new full set of X-rays and the initial consult which included a cleaning , I also learned that I do NOT need two new crowns nor did I have gum disease. I am shocked and incredibly disappointed in Dr. Milici, especially since they exhausted my insurance for the year and refused to fully accept my new United Concordia plan, telling me it was a horrible plan. I saw my new dentist two weeks later and had a cavity near my upper front tooth which had discolored the area for over a year beautifully addressed. She was just wonderful, I felt no pain and despite my high anxiety around dentists, I had a great experience with her extremely well-run office. Now I see the dentist twice a year. And BTW, ALL of Starr Dental staff are vacinated. Live and learn. read more

UPDATE: Because that wisdom tooth was infected, it caused decay on the tooth next to it. I now need a root canal and will probably need a crown as well. Had they checked it out, they probably would have noticed something and I would have had my wisdom teeth out last year, and probably wouldn't need a root canal. Had they checked it out last year, I probably would have been saved a lot of pain, and close to $1000. I started going here in 2013 because I worked in the building. Then I got a new job, still in the Navy Yard so I kept going for convenience. They are thorough, but their hours are awful. If you have a full time job, you better hope you have time off because they only make appointments from 8-4, and a simple cleaning will take at least an hour. About a year ago, I mentioned to them that my wisdom tooth (I still have all 4) was bothering me a little, and I was noticing a gap. They didn't even look at it, just brushed it off. For the last few months I was trying to contact them to get an appointment, and I was just ignored. I finally went to a different dentist (Dental Arts of Logan Square - AH-MAZING) because at this point I was having pain and bleeding in my wisdom tooth. I came to this dentist with a terrible gum pain. I was rushed through the appointment and was just prescribed an expensive night guard but no help with the current pain and issue. I was not given any help with the gum pain so excruciating I could barely talk. I went to another dentist they properly diagnosed me prescribed me antibiotics and the pain/infection is now going. Next time Matarazzo and Milici Group please spend more time and care on a patient. I was in loads of pain and ignored yet another dentist immediately helped. By spending time and proper diagnosis you could have saved me some pain and stress. I would not recommend this dentist it seems all they care about is money prescribing expensive night guards and not helping a patients wellbeing. During a regular visit, Dr. Matarazzo realized I had an infection in a back tooth. He referred me to an outstanding endodontist for a root canal and antibiotics. I returned to Dr. Matarazzo for the temporary and will go back for the permanent. I had no idea I had an infected tooth- even though from time to time I would have what I thought was ear and jaw pain. Dr Matarazzo is an outstanding and skilled dentist and he is also very, very caring. My husband and son also go to this group and I highly recommend them. As I was passing though Philly for work I broke my front tooth out eating pizza. I kinda freaked out as I looked at myself in the mirror. After it all sunk in, I immediately looked up dentists that were in the area where I was working and I found the Matarazzo & Milici Group. I called for an appointment and they were able to get me in right away. Dr Matarazzo was my doctor, he analyzed the my problem, took xrays, made a new tooth for me and I was in and out in a little over an hour. All of the staff were great. Living in Philly, I was very overwhelmed with the amount of dentists available. I was referred here by a friend and thought to give it a try. The offiice is very clean, updated and the staff very friendly. I had a specific issue with a molar and it was taken care of upon my first visit. Dr. Matarazzo was direct and to the point. Told me what he was going to do and did it efficiently and with ease. Even the numbing shot was a piece of cake. Yesterday was my first visit to the office as I am a new patient. The office is very clean and modern and the staff was extremely helpful and polite. Beverly was my hygienist and she was very personable and professional. It had been two years since my last cleaning, but I don't remember any previous dental offices being as thorough with their cleaning and evaluation. Every instrument and tool in the office looked as though it was cutting edge technology. I was even able to watch Beverly evaluate my teeth through a monitor that was set up above my chair. It was fascinating and I am very satisfied with the level of service and professionalism that was provided. I have been seeing Dr. Matarazzo for over 35 years. Let me start out by saying I have always had a phobia about dentists, never liked them or trusted them. . Back in the 1970's I was experiencing headaches, neck pain and heavy grinding of my teeth at night. After seeing a few dentists, who could not help me, I saw Dr. Matarazzo and he immediately knew my problem..tmj. He took such good care of me. He was so kind, intelligent and attentive. Before any procedure he always explains to me what he is going to do. I told him about my phobia with dentists, he was very understanding, and he really went out of his way to make me feel more relaxed. I have been with Dr. Matarazzo since he started out on Walnut St. in Philadelphia, he then moved to Broad Street for many years and now has a beautiful office in the Navy Yard with his wife Dr. Anita Milici who is just as kind, intelligent and understanding as her husband.
