The officers at the doors scanning persons and belongings are welcoming and efficient. The majority of the staff smile when they pass you in the hallway and the ones behind the glass helping you are pleasant and efficient. Judge Palms handled the chaos of his court room with practiced efficiency. I'm not sure who the gentleman at one of the tables was but his knowledge of more than two languages was amazing. I'm not sure how much of the various languages he knew, but he was able to ask and then direct individuals that the court would get an interpreter to help them. He also somehow managed to do two jobs at the same time. It's like he had two brains, four ears and two mouths. Maybe some extra hands. I was very impressed.

I'm really amazed at just how easy it is to get in and out of the Cass County Courthouse. Most of…read morethe urban court buildings I've been to, you have to pass through a metal detector and have your stuff x-rayed, and God help you if you have a pocket knife. But not here. There are no metal detectors anywhere. You just walk in, conduct your business and walk out, easy as pie. This building contains the county courts as well as most of the other county functions, such as treasurer, clerk, register of deeds, surveyor and commissioners. It also houses the county probation offices and the local DMV.

It's a good idea to ask questions about what you need before you plan to start the process. William gave me the forms I needed the day before so I filled them out at home. Some people do the process online, but I wasn't able to figure out where the forms were online. I already had my picture so I didn't need to do that. Add in some expertise at the process on the part of William, and the papers are in the mail.

And to be clear, I am rating the experience at the post office building at 2609 Victoria Avenue, not the delivery service to my home (which has also varied greatly over the years). Since my last several visits over the last year have all have all resulted in good to excellent service experience, I'm putting more weight on the recent trips than some of the horrible experiences I've had in the past. The difference is some of the obviously burnt out/stressed out clerks that worked at this location are gone, and new employees who are a lot more customer friendly are now working with customers. On my latest visit, I was amazed to see that there was absolutely nobody in line, which I have never experience before at any post office. The employee who served me was friendly and efficient. I appreciate that the USPS now accepts contactless payments and have worked out most of the bugs with their online tracking system. I do as much of my correspondence digitally as possible, but some things I still need to do at the USPS, so it's nice that service is improving.
