What an amazing opportunity I had this week to take a tour of Latin American warships through UNITAS! Outstanding welcoming from the crews of ships from Argentina, Peru and Mexico. I had unprecedented access to the ships inside and out. This was a once in a lifetime experience! Could not thank Naval Station Mayport enough for their warm hospitality. I recall being stationed here from 1993 to 1996 on board the USS Boone (FFG-28). Unfortunately, she has served her time inport and out to sea, and has been fina decommissioned in 2012. She will be greatly missed by many, to include myself. I had a great time while stationed on this base and have managed to make a lot of friends as well. read more

Best navy base in Jacksonville hands down! Love the easy access to the beach from the jetties in the north all the way down to Navy Housing in the south! Superb recreational as well as NEX shopping facilities and the golf course is A ok along with Bogeys restaurant. The fitness center is brand new and definitely upscale with the latest equipment. The Bowling Alley is newly renovated as well and it's hard to beat the $1 per game and $1 for shoes rental on Wednesdays. The branch medical clinic /hospital is a good medical facility and provides a drive-thru pharmacist. The mini mart offers onbase eats as well as 24/7 gas service. Check out Navy Base Mayport you DOD ID card holders and you'll see why I believe Mayport is the top Jacksonville Navy Base! read more

Kind of odd to give a review for a naval station but here goes. Naval station Mayport is one of the most requested duty stations in the U.S. Navy. It is easy to see why, since the base is right on the beach in north east Florida, the base is clean, not too big and has all the amenities from a great gym to the Navy Lodge right on the beach. The Navy billets here are primarily hello and surface. Both atmospheres are very team oriented. I truly enjoyed being stationed here. Understand most folks will say north island or pearl are better, but for me, cost of living and the location Trump the other bases. Get stationed here or visit. You won't regret it. read more

I made it on to the Naval Base before I made it to a Jaguar game (shrug). Beaches are freaking beautiful right at sunset (which was why I was here). Enjoyed a picture perfect wedding on the sands. And the dolphins like to show off so you're bound to catch a few sights. Ocean Breeze Conference Center provided a beautiful reception area just a short walk from the beach. Outside seating to take in the nice breeze, stars, and moonlight. Indoors small/mid size dining room and dance floor to do "The Wobble". The base as a whole was pretty quiet the whole time I was there. Only downside would be some of the signs. I got lost for a good 10 minutes before I found someone taking a walk that could redirect me. Oh and the gas station at night - don't do it. Creepy as hell! read more

Not a bad little base. Is continues to grow. It is right on the ocean so there are beautiful views every day. If you live on base or have to stay on base the amenities are great. The only thing I do not like are the bugs and the humidity. The base it self was carved out of swamp land so the mosquitoes and other swamp creatures inhabit the place. read more

Nice base, well kept, on the ocean, about a mile of beautiful private beach. Stayed at the gateway inn, two bedroom suite, very nice, 52 bucks. Very clean and well kept....lodging is right at the beach. Nice gym and chiefs club next door. Navy lodge on the other side. Very quiet, great place for families with kids. read more

Oh have I seen this base grow! From housing popping up along the beach to the destruction of the frigate fleet, to widening the streets, and even adding giant towering amphibious ships. This base has grow in the last 5 years with thousands of jobs added, newer ships, and lots of housing. The base is kept very clean, it offers roughly mile long private beachfront of the Atlantic ocean. They also offer a fairly brand new gymnasium what includes a indoor Olympic style pool. Check the base out if you have the time to stop by. Suggestions- If you want to camp out or bring an RV you basically have a ocean front view so reserve early slots they go fast. Love this base. I've seen 3 and this one is my favorite. Location location location and private beach for fishing and shelling! Only Complaint is the Nex is off base and the people there ID your whole party when grocery shopping and were curt and rude to us. read more
