The hunny and I saw a sign for this antique store the last time we were in the big city of Escalon…read more Aaaa, why not stop in. We were hap-pea that we did. We saw some cute things when we pea-ked in the window. Many street signs, also cookbooks, dresses, historical photographs, and a wagon wheel. It doesn't have as large of an inventory as many antique stores, with no attempt to appea-se the customer. But what is there has is good quality. Including a picture that now hangs on our wall. When you look out the window and see the Santa Fe caboose in the park across the street, that adds to the ambiance. Also, quiet pea-ano music in the background ("Hey, that's a Michael Card song!") that gives you a sense of peas - er, peace. But actually, the most memorable part of The Green Pea is the prevalence of signs that encourage you to enjoy the store. Usually with awful puns that use the word "pea". Hence, my usage of awful pea puns in this Yelp review. If ya don't like that, buddy, ya want a peas of me???

The store carries a vast selection of items from fine Talavera from Puebla to garden statuary, pottery from Tonala, pine furniture, Lupita dolls, Mexican blown glass and so much more. I found three beautiful items on my recent visit for very fair prices. The lady who runs the store is very knowledgeable about the art she sells and also very helpful and kind to customers. I love this store and now that I found it, I know I will be back.

This is one of the biggest shops in the wider Bay Area that offers such variety of Mexican/Latin inspired art and decor. They have tiles, Talavera, Najaco Lupita dolls (yay, not Navarro like so many other shops only have), furniture, kitchenware, clay pieces, some clothing, decor made out of tin, and sooo much more. The quality of all their products is wonderful. Service is fantastic. They take good care in wrapping your fragile purchases and answering all of your questions. When I have gone, I spend time walking aisle by aisle both indoor and outdoors. Prices are fairly priced and better here than other places where they want to charge an arm and a leg for the same item. Its quite a drive for many, but its well worth it. Parking is not an issue, they have plenty. Bathrooms are also available. If you plan to make a trip or if you are a regular customer check their social media before going. They are good at announcing special promotions or change in their business hours. They are very mindful of the weather and when its extreme temperatures, they close early. Plus, you can see any new arrivals they have. This is a small business that I love to support and always recommend.

I had both of my toddlers with me and as soon as I walked in, instead of putting down the little dog in a cage as the lady was going to for some reason she thought to let him loose. This dog ran across the store after my kids and cornered my screaming, crying, horrified 3 year old in the corner. That was the first and last time I'll be returning back to this place not only for my daughter's love for art but also for any future girls paint night plans I had. This is not how you run a business by keeping your pets inside- specially if they are not behaved. The woman herself couldn't even catch up to the dog because of her own health, so there's no way she was going to stop this crazy dog. The least she could have done was apologize but that never came either. I picked up both my kids and immediately left. Either run a business properly and keep your crazy animals home or give the space to another business - because that's what manteca needs! *Personally I expected a cat given the business name, which I am also allergic too- so I wouldn't come back if that was the case either. *
