Previously, the employees were knowledgeable about beer and wine. Now, what they lack in overall knowledge, they make up for in a desire to try new things and order whatever their customers want. For example, this past weekend I noticed a 4 pack of Goose Island Bourbon County Stout. I've never tried this beer, but have heard good things. The problem was the price - $23.99/4 pack! I asked if they would consider breaking the 4 pack and they did! No problem. On top of that, the guy behind the counter said he would take one home to try so we could compare notes. A strong desire to serve the customer - what else can you ask for?

I was brought here to Embassy by my love as he wanted to surprise me. One with my favorite drink which is MaCallan Scotch 12 yr or older and of course my wine. I walk in and OMG! Now this place is beyond packed so I do say that he needs more room. It's hard to get into some spots because he has sooooo much. BUT! The selection here is crazy and for a steal. I bought a bottle of wine... a 2002 bottle of Cab for only $45. I mean really! Granted it wasn't Napa but Sonoma is just as good. But today, I had to go back because I tried a wine that blew me away.... Oberon Napa County Cab. For two for $50 you can't beat the price. I grabbed the last two . But this place is a gold mine. I give it 4 stars ONLY because of the safety hazard. Other than that, I mean this really is a 5 star place. If you haven't been, GO! They may have what you've been searching for and you won't be disappointed.

Gotta be careful walking through the isles cause there's bottles of all kinds of alcohol there. All the times people have gone to liquor stores to find a specific brand only to never see it...it's all there. For stuff you rarely or never see at other places, everything is reasonably priced. Idk why a couple people on here are complaining about prices. What you go to a place that has hard to find liquor and you expect it to be the cheapest around? The old lines of the finest alcoholic beverages are gonna have a bit of dust on em, hell even your local Kroger is gonna have alcohol with dust on it. Plus Vikings Blood is 30 plus dollars no matter where you look and same goes for here. Anyways they have all kinds of alcohol and the stacks of bottles up to the ceiling, it gives a cool vintage look, fitting for it's history. Ultimately I believe if anyone is looking for a specific kind go here cause I bet 100% you'll find it here.

I have no idea who Joseph is but Sam, who has almost always been behind the register since I…read morestarted coming here in the early 90s is a great guy. I really couldn't tell you much of anything about him except he's always been so friendly and I've watched him grow old there. I used to often cash my checks from Nino Salvaggio's - my first job - at Joseph's as did a bunch of my co-workers. Sometimes people would just call the place Sam's instead of Joseph's. It was long before digital banking, us kids weren't doing direct deposit and we weren't trying to wait for the bank to open on Monday when it was after 5 on Friday and that money was burning holes in our pockets. Sam always hooked us up, and for a smaller fee than I'd be charged later in life at Marcus Market. It's a small store, pretty tightly packed, very focused as beer but they have snacks and the lottery, too. All the finer things in life. I don't drink beer anymore but I do remember them having good prices here. That lot stays busy. I am a very infrequent customer here since moving from SCS to the city but if I'm in my old stomping grounds I'll give this store precedence. One time a few years ago I had to pull the old move of cashing a check here. I didn't expect Sam to remember me from the old young Nino's crowd but I explained I cashed checks there for years as did a bunch of us and he nodded his head like it was a good memory for him, too. He still looked at my license and all but his initial skepticism instantly melted away. Most recently I popped in on my way to watch my cousin play baseball at Kyte Monroe Park. All I bought was a water and a bag of chips. Sam wished me a good day before I left. He sounded tired. Dude always worked such long hours. He'd be there before we went to work and when we stopped after. Sometimes we'd compare notes on when he was there just to figure out his superhuman schedule. I'd like to see him enjoy retirement but Sam seems like he wouldn't know how. So many people could say what a great guy he is and maybe 10% have actually had continued conversations to get to know him. And the rest of us, uh, like me, well, we just know anyway. A Yelp review is pretty small potatoes in this world but I figure Sam should get the flowers while he can still smell em.

I can't stress the importance of having fresh stock when it comes to beer, and so far, I've not been disappointed. There's also a gigantic wine and liquor selection, but I'm mostly here for the beer! The prices are also decent. Nothing that I've seen has been overpriced, and nothing seems under priced. Even the seasonal releases (Bell's Special Double Cream Stout for example) were priced right.
