Stopped in to pick up some green beans. I knew it was the last day of the sale but I did not expect…read morea display of rotten beans. They were disgusting. There were wooden crates in front of the display empty except for the top one which had the same rotten beans in it. I saw what I thought was an employee from the produce section and I said "your beans are rotten." His reply was " a lot of them in there are". Why would a store like Farm Boy dish up the last of their rotten beans instead of discarding them. I was very disappointed that a store that prides itself on its produce would actually charge for rotten beans let alone expect people to buy them.

First one laughed when we mentioned a dairy allergy. Second told us that our 10 items was too many for the 8 item line, 4 of which were the same item. There were 2 other cash open each with a line of 3-5 with at least half full carts. Cashier doesn't look at general direction, doesn't talk to me, almost threw items on counter, then after I paid under his breath come again...turned looked laughed not in this lifetime. Their bread and focaccia are also made in house, and the focaccia was soooo good super light, fluffy, and super flavorful. The staff was super quick and everything came out fairly quickly. Overall, everything tasted fresh and yummy, and I would definitely come back. I also want to try their coffee next time. A gem of a bakery and cafe in downtown Kingston!…read more My review is only for the bakery and store portion of Pan Chancho. I haven't had the chance to dine in the cafe yet, mostly because it gets extremely busy, especially on weekends. That said, the bakery/store has so many great finds. Their bread is excellent quality and a great value for the size, at around $5 for a small loaf and $8 for a larger one. My favorite is the olive rosemary sourdough, which is absolutely delicious. The saucisson sec is another great local find. The baked goods offer a nice rotating variety, with everything from Québec maple chômeurs to Italian maritozzi. On my last visit, I tried the Vietnamese coffee panna cotta, which was excellent. There's also an large gluten-free selection, ranging from breads to fresh-baked goods. The gluten-free scones are a particular standout. Beyond the food, Pan Chancho also has a great selection of kitchen and pantry-related items, including spices, pasta, sauces, hand towels, reusable bags, and more. It's the kind of place where you can go in for a loaf of bread and easily leave with a whole bag of interesting little things. Definitely worth stopping by if you're in downtown Kingston! The bakery alone is reason enough to visit, even if you don't get a chance to sit down at the cafe.
