The owner and an employee chatted with us and gave us free samples of kombucha (which was delicious). They have kombucha on tap which is fun. We wandered around and saw some really great things. Nixa needs a store like this, and I hope the store is a great success. It's small, with 3 or 4 aisles. Some of the items were sauces/dressings, chips/snacks, a small freezer section with meat/frozen meals, some produce, and an entire aisle for cleaning supplies/toiletries/supplements. The prices are higher on items than at Lucky's in springfield, but for the convenience, it's absolutely worth it. And I'm pretty certain it's all cheaper than Mama Jean's. I will definitely be coming back!

Plus, every time I walk in I feel better. The place is clean, peaceful, and it's the prettiest local store to walk around and shop. I buy little healthy candies & other gifts there, made by other local artisans. If you're in the area, stop by because you'll be glad you did. Tucked away in an inconspicuous strip center, Foods for Health has had surprisingly good business for many years considering it's Rolla and Wal-Mart is only half a mile down the road. That said, the products at Foods for Health might be twice the cost of what you'd pay at Wal-Mart but you'll be supporting a local business and buying products made by smaller and probably more socially responsible companies. Half of the store is groceries and nutritional supplements where you can find bulk-packaged dried beans, canned goods, cereals, nuts, dried fruit, flours, frozen foods, local eggs and cheese, vegan cheese and ice cream, and every possible health supplement you could want. The other half consists of books on health and diet issues, cosmetics, and toiletries. Foods for Health also provides massage services which I think you need to do by appointment. And if you're turned off by the higher prices, go there after Christmas when they have a 10% sale. They also accept SNAP benefits (food stamps).
