The pain was taken care of in a couple of treatments. I continue to go to Advance Acupuncture every second week for regular maintenance care. They accept our insurance which makes their service affordable. I would highly recommend this clinic for acupuncture and other treatments.

You know you've picked the right acupuncturist when…read more.. ...you actually feel excited for them to stick needles in your body and it doesn't really hurt. ...you see their ridiculously awesome credentials framed and hung in exam rooms (framed certificate from President Clinton, letters from NIH, old newspaper articles from Library of Congress, etc.) ...there's a waiting list for appointments ...the waiting room is so crowded, there's no place to sit ...the staff remembers your name everytime you come and are always smiling and friendly ...you actually feel sad that today is your last appointment. ----------- I was referred by yelper, Kim N to Wildwood Acupuncture Center and I'm so thankful I got to talk to her and get her recommendation when I saw her at the Sail Away event back in May. The Friday I was told I needed surgery, I immediately called and made an appointment at WAC. I had an appointment for Monday. Upon arrival, I filled out some forms and was thankful to see that they did accept insurance. Coverage varies from plan to plan and I'm thankful that my visits were 90% covered but it's still unclear how many visits they've paid for (still waiting for word on that). On the first visit, you can expect to be there for an hour and a half. During this 1hr+ period, you'll have a full evaluation (q+a) and then the acupuncture. You put on a paper gown and lay however instructed. (Me, on my left side facing the wall.) In general, I'm not afraid of needles...unless I'm watching you stick one in me. Thankfully, since my area of complaint is my back, I never had to watch him put one of the needles in my skin. You might be wandering what it feels like? Well, depending on where the needle goes, I either felt a bit of pressure but no pain, or I didn't feel it at all! Most times, I thought I just heard a flicking-type sound when they were inserted but I didn't feel it. Now, once the needle is in, however, when he pushes it in further or angles it differently - that is an entirely different feeling; sometimes painful, sometimes not. There were times when I felt tingly, felt some kind of something shoot down my leg or across my side. Dr. Xiao Ming Tian would stick the needles in the appropriate spot based on what the pain was like that day. Some days it hurt down my leg so he'd make sure there was a needle in my back area to address that pain. One day I mentioned I had a headache so he gave me additional needles in my head/neck (which was awesome!). Once all the needles are in, they need to stay in for 30-45 minutes. A heat lamp hangs over the acupuncture spots and it's nap time. That's right - a doctor sanctioned nap! I found over the last 14 sessions that while I actually slept some of the time, 80% of the the rest of the time I felt like I was in that place between asleep and awake and it was downright relaxing. When time is up, they come back in the room and take out the needles, you put your clothes back on and you go home and repeat the next day or however many visits Dr. Tian recommends. In my case, it was 15. I'll be honest, I was really quite skeptical about acupuncture at the beginning. I figured I'd give it a go but had low expectations. Thus far, it hasn't "cured" my back but it has significantly helped with managing the pain. It has also brought my blood pressure down to normal human numbers again so I'm very very pleased about that. (This was a result, apparently, of the placement of one needle in my forearm.) Yea...I'm a believer now! I've never been more eager to spread the word about a doctor, let alone an acupuncturist but I'm telling you - if you ever considered acupuncture before, come see Dr. Xiao Ming Tian at Wildwood. He is a darling older Chinese man who is extremely intelligent, very kind and truly cares about his patients. (Also, he gave me a Chinese restaurant recommendation in Rockville that I'm excited to check out! Seven Seas.)

As a former employee of Dr. Tian and Bethesda Acupuncture (having left in January 2021 on maternity…read moreleave), there was no one else on my list to call when I was diagnosed with shingles by my PCP in August. As a relatively healthy 29 year old, and a new mom, shingles was the last thing I ever thought I would have developed. Dr. Tian assured me in an initial telehealth consultation that not only was I not alone in being relatively young and having shingles (courtesy of extra high levels of stress, and adjusting to a new life as a parent) but that there was a great deal we could do to treat the itching, pain, and to prevent postherpetic neuralgia. The office fit me in for an appointment same day and so began my treatments. I'm thrilled to say that just over a month later, I am 99.9% shingles free. Dr. Tian worked with me to manage my shingles, but also to address some additional postpartum concerns (PPA, PPD, back pain, etc). She even assisted with the scarring I have left from the shingles and prescribed a derma roller 3x a week. I can report also that I sleep much more soundly (When my daughter allows!), I have minimal back pain, and my mood is so significantly improved and consistent I am almost completely off the medication I was put on for PPA. Given that I knew Dr. Tian and the practice prior to going as a patient, I knew cleanliness is one of their top priorities - even if a global pandemic was not part of the equation. I felt comfortable in the office each and every time I was there, knowing the staff all wear PPE including face masks and shields, and there are multiple state of the art air filtration and purifying machines throughout the office space. In addition to the detail with with the office is maintained, Dr. Tian also explained each and every step at my first appointment, and was always quick to answer any questions I had. Whether I was curious what needle related to what symptom, or about why I was feeling twitchy during an appointment. A simple "I recommend Dr. Tian and her entire team at BAWM" is not enough - I would shout it from the rooftops to anyone willing to listen and anyone suffering, not only from shingles, but from any ailment or concern, as Dr. Tian will look not only at what is bothering you, but will look at "the whole picture". I will now and forevermore hesitate to see anyone else for acupuncture, or any TCM treatments knowing the due diligence Dr. Tian gives all of her patients, and the care she puts into each and every appointment she sees.

Dr. Chen is an amazing practioner of acupuncture. I've had 20+ sessions with three (3) different…read moreacupuncturists, each very good. Each helped me with my then-problem, caused by chronic pain. When I looked to find Dr. Chen, I knew I wanted someone in the Chinese Medicine Tradition. I got that and much more in Dr. Chen. Dr. Chen has a scientific mind, healing hands, and excellent accupuncture skill. He asks the right questions, the questions help the patient identify the source of the problem on that basis alone....uncover the underlying problem, now fix it. And that he does. In my case, a sore neck was more than sleeping badly---it was too severe a pain and had gone on too long. Dr. Chen used several techniques, not just the accupuncture needles. The needles hurt not in the least, but the other techniques were uhhhhhh------'vigorous'---and this side of Ouch....but it lasted less than half a minute. In that time, the glorious body, the magnificent brain get to work. Healing begins because the energy has been summoned to the site. When I asked Dr. Chen what had happened when I had the feeling of amazing warmth, he said: 'the channel had been opened'. I think that way.....the body heals itself...we need to remove the obstacles so the body can get back on track. Dr. Chen has excellent skill, complete understanding of a variety of techniques to include manipulation and massage and Chinese herbs to be used at home as a soak. Dr. Chen has the medical wisdom and technique that belies his age. His skill level is that of a much older practioner. It means that he listens, and puts his knowledge to work and that he didn't have to season to find his wisdom. Being a medical intuitive isn't necessary....just listen to the patient, feel for the knot, release the blocked energy. Everyone should try an accupuncture session. People turn to accupuncture often 'when all else fails' , but it should be your choice First. Likely you won't need anything else. Accupunture works with the body, it is a trigger mechanism that gets healing started. Dr. Chen will help you help your magnificent body to heal.

I've been treated by Dr. Wang over the years for numerous different complaints. He has a great…read moreunderstanding of body energy flow and has a very unassuming, unostentatious manner. He expertly sticks in the needles where they need to go to affect the problem zone and then gives you a little electric current/pulse in addition through the needles. Then you are under the heat lamp and listening to spa music while the treatment ensues...for about half an hour. You are flat out on the table in a zone....in and out of sleep while the acupuncture remedy is working to cure your pains.... Truly its been a great way to address the root of blockages in body energy that cause pain (as Dr. Wang explains it) or muscle sprains and injuries in normal terms. (Dr. Wang switches between Chinese and western medical terms to help people understand the root cause of pains). I can't recommend Dr. Wang's healing approach and effectiveness more highly. She treated me for severe inflammation which caused the inflammation by a combination of cupping, bleeding and acupuncture including electrodes in several of the needles. When I started treatment, I could only walk about 100 feet before pain and found it difficult to sleep.
