We stopped by ... or drove by slowly. There really isn't a place to stop or park, though I'm sure some have done it. We were driving north on I-25 and I noticed the location on google maps, just south of Wyoming on the east side of I-25. I was looking for a little diversion so we took the frontage road drive off the highway to check it out. It gave us an opportunity to google and read up on the historical battle (?) that took place here. It's neat to see the terrain and imagine all those years ago as people tried to navigate their lives and this land. The rock formations are certainly pretty cool to look at. After reading about what happened there, I was surprised at the lack of space in this "natural fort". I'm glad we saw it and read about it. I wish we could have continued on north on the frontage road to get back on I-25 but google maps told us to do a 180 & drive south the way we came from to get back on the highway. read more

I can only imagine how beautiful these rock formations once were before they were ruined. We enjoyed climbing around and exploring the different viewpoints. There are several formations but only a couple are accessible from the dirt road that leads to it. The remaining are beyond a fence on private property. It's unfortunate that the locals have let this site go to waste along with letting kids ruin it with spray paint and garbage. read more

This site has an abundance of history that has unfortunately been neglected in a big way. This is a natural sandstone rock formation that once used as cover in battles and saw major bloodshed. The website on the yelp page has detailed history of it. Unfortunately it has been tarnished by kids that use it as a hangout spot so there is a lot of spray paint and garbage on this site. However, still stop by and check this place out. The rock formations are really neat and if you go in the middle of the 'fort' it is sandy like a beach. As you climb up on the different levels of the rocks you can imagine the fear of the people who used this site as a last ditch effort to survive. You can easily put yourself into their shoes when you visit this site. Hopefully one day they restore this to where it should be. read more
