Ahh internet cafes, I remember I used to always be in the Easy Internet cafes back in the early…read morenoughties, but now everyone seems to have the internet and I stuggle to understand how these places manage to survive, technology has come a long way over the past couple of decades, and I can see many of these places becoming less and less common as internet on mobiles become more widespread and cheaper. This is just a bog standard internet shop that offers prices a little more expensive than the average. I came here with my friend when he needed to check his emails before meeting his girlfriend at Haymarket station. Cleopatra has a few snacks but not an extensive range and they also charge you 35p if you want to go to the toilet if you have not paid to use the internet, which they tried to make me pay despite me being with my paying friend, which I felt was a little rude.

These days, it's all been sadly replaced by Facebook, and other such social networking where you score points by gaining friends and coming up with quips every two hours. I'm nostalgic for the days when downloading took a fortnight, MSN was revolutionary and everyone made websites using Geocities.com ...sigh. But back to the present, and Cleopatra's. There's no frills or fuss here - I can't even remember if there's Wifi but I assume so....it's quite sparse and not many seats, but it's out of the way enough to be able to get a table and peacefully go about your business. Even though you assume there aren't many machines available, I've always managed to get one here without waiting time! The machines are modern enough, there is a small range of snacks and drinks, it's cheap and there's a printer if you need it. I don't always like to cart my laptop around with me (for the fear I'll break it more than any other reason), so this is a great place for me to catch up on my Yelping and check if anyone has commented on my exciting facebook pictures...(!) Yes, we all succumb to the power that is social networking!

I chose not to purchase from them and mentioned how this could contribute to a hostile atmosphere, got no apology and the proprietor did not seem to understand what they had done wrong. On mentioning my concerns via Facebook, they suggested it was my fault by using the phrase "sorry you felt that way", and did not apologise for having made my friends feel awkward. Another games store in Edinburgh were wonderful, welcoming, and treated my friends as equals instead of separate, and offered them hospitality. I hope that one day Games Hub's attitude improves and they show half the welcoming attitude I received elsewhere.

For the price of 2.50--yes, two pound fiddy--you get up to 10 hours of unlimited game-play. TEN HOURS! Sure, the actual gaming room is nothing fancy. It's moderately sizeable and certainly less-is-more with regards to decor. What you'll find is a pretty standard basement room divided by a row of double-sided bookshelves, but the shelves themselves are the real gem: boxes upon boxes of games, at least a hundred of them, surely! And among all the games we peered or delved into, all the pieces were intact and each game was clean and tidy as though it had just come out of the box. Even better. So when such a feast of board games awaits, a clean room with plenty of space for friends will happily suffice: that's really all you need, especially for the price. (Did I mention it's just two-fiddy?!) The only thing that would have made my evening at Games Hub better would have been to have a nice cold beer while exploring the games, but with that said, I can absolutely understand why no beers or nibbles are not allowed downstairs. Don't be thinkin' you can get your sticky old fingers all over the games, y'hear? (It is worth noting that there is a pub just across the street with excellent German brews, so you can quench your thirst easily after, just not during!) Being the email fiend that I am, I find this place particularly resourceful if I'm wanting a wee sit down and a Hotmail session for half an hour. It's pretty inexpensive and a wee cheeky cup of tea doesn't break the bank. I am yet to try their smoothies but might give em a go now that Lynsey has talked 'em up. Sometimes caffeine is not in fact the answer, and their choice is useful if you need to rehydrate yourself with something colder. As Lynsey has also outlined this place is small, but if you stop by and avoid the peak times it's usually easy enough to get a PC. This place has been great for me on the countless recent visits to Edinburgh. As much as I love sitting in here and checking what my travelling friends are up to whilst sipping on a brew, it's just as handy for backpackers who are flying by to touch internet base before jetting off to another city. It's a shame that internet cafes have become endangered since they are still necessary, but it's a comfort Coffee Home Internet is still representing!

The only problem is you can't get a seat some times and have to walk to the other one 5 min away to see if that has a seat free! Henry's offers a great selection or hot and cold beverages and also has food which caters for most dietary needs. They carry a range of soya, gluten free, vegan etc. They are are also always willing to help cater for anything that's not listed. The majority of the staff are very welcoming (yes I'm a sucker for nice staff) and they also have free wifi which is always a bonus if you have an hour or so to kill. The coffees it's self are great tasting and when you ask for a large... you get a large and they also have a license for alchol, so if it's cold there happy to pop a cheeky wee tipple of whisky in there! There are two Henry's, theres one on the seagate with no outdoor seating and one, which is my favorite, at the main square which has outdoor seating. Right now there construction work however over the next months or so it will defo be my go to on a nice day in Dundee.... not that I need an excuse any more!

It's clean, airy and busy with people from all around the world checking their emails over a cup of tea. I know that everyone owns fancy-pants phones these days, and carry around their dinky wee laptops where they can fire up the internet and obtain free Wifi from just about everywhere. I, however, have an old brick of a laptop, a phone that barely receives picture messages and don't live in Edinburgh, so this place is very useful to me when I want to do some Yelping on the go! I hear what everyone's saying about net cafe's becoming swiftly outmoded, but if you are hostelling, visiting or even (heaven forbid) have lost your internet connection at home for a while, I would argue that they become very useful indeed. They are, in fact, like gold dust these days. So even though it's 2 quid for an hour, you could do a lot, lot worse than New Wings. It's clean, there are private booths for you to Skype in (or at least I hope that's what you're doing in there), there's cake, and an abundance of tea served up from their friendly staff. This is my favourite internet cafe in Edinburgh, and I'm glad it exists since my Yelping would have to wait until I was back in Glasgow otherwise!

It is an Internet cafe, with a limited amount of computers available (I suppose in this small town that is all they need!), however the computers are not that up to date and one can find a cheaper Internet cafe even in Edinburgh! However, there is one positive feature when it comes to things on offer inside this Internet cafe! One can pick from a good selection of ice cream, just what is needed at a Scottish seaside town!
