I only go here now if I don't want to make the drive elsewhere or if I need the item immediately. As much as I would like to support a locally owned business, I just can't justify it with the type of service they offer in the store, their selection, and their pricing.

As it happens, they did have the product I was looking for (white chia seeds) but for the most part if you're looking for groceries neither of these stores are your first option. You need to go to Whole Foods, Natural Grocer, or the surprisingly complete health food departments at many local Hy-Vees! Service was friendly and efficient -- the woman at the counter could go right to the shelf where the white chia was located and the price was OK (it's very popular these days, it seems, so it's not inexpensive). If this location isn't near where you live, DO call them before going to save yourself a wasted trip. But if you're looking for supplements you should be happy camper here or at Emerald Forest! The shop is in a strip mall at the SW corner of 151st and Mur-Len in Olathe.

The store itself is extremely clean, well kept and the staff is helpful. I am sometimes disappointed they don't have certain brands or flavors ( Mikey's regular flavor English muffins) and a few other things. Sometimes I wish they carried more local type items, night shade free bbq/ketchup that is made in KC. I can typically find all of my healthy food here, for my everyday cooking. When you become a member ( super easy and you get points and coupons) they have speciality prices on things like organic eggs, avocados, bacon, kombcha. These special prices are all the time for members. Totally worth it for organic avocados and eggs!!!! They sell other items in bulk, organic almonds, cashews, coconut shreds, spices, seasonings and such. Makes it really easy to refill your jars at home and much cheaper then always buying new jars. They carry grab and go items, health and beauty items and supplements/vitamins. If you are looking for a healthy grocery option, head to NG. Sometimes their veggie and fruit prices are cheaper than Whole Foods, sprouts and Hyvee ( and better quality).

Their produce department looks well maintained and properly sourced, they have a decent supplement department, their bulk spices are significantly superior and less expensive than their competitors, and you can't beat their pricing on eggs if you are an NPower member. The store always looks clean and the employees are always friendly, knowledgable, and helpful. My only complaints are the food selection in the store as well as limited fresh meat options (almost everything is frozen). And, I wish this location was larger like the ones in Lenexa, Lawrence, and Liberty. If it was larger, I would shop here more often.

Doctors did a lot of testing and guessing and not giving me answers. I couldn't believe how thorough the original testing was at SOH, and how much time Dr. Vaughn spent with me going over the results and answering all my questions (2.5 hours in one session alone). Here's a bit of my journey: * My PCP thought my issue was thyroid; Dr. Vaughn found Lyme Disease instead. After going through the SOH Lyme protocol, I have no more symptoms! * The Hepatologist said there nothing could be done about my liver--they would just do a scan every six months and wait for it to turn into cancer. After 2 months of being on treatment with SOH, 4/5 liver markers showed improvement! * My cholesterol went from 200 to 174 after 2 months. * My A1C went from 6.5 to 6.2 in 2 months. But the best thing is that I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER! I have energy that I haven't had in months. My mind is clearer, more focused. I still have a ways to go, but if the first few months are any indication, I'm on the road to renewing my health! I can't say enough good things about the staff and care at SOH. It is worth every penny!! If doctors are just guessing and having you try medicines with horrible side effects, I highly recommend Dr. Vaughn. You WILL find answers!

This place was so weird…read more The guy at the register seemed like, hungover or something, and it just... took him a while... I hope he wasn't having a mini stroke. The item I purchased rang up at a higher price than what it said on the shelf. Never a good sign. Everything was really expensive, except for a few things on sale - like, I managed to find a single-serve yogurt on sale for $2.50 instead of $4.59. They have some bulk herbs and teas, but the selection is very, very limited. They have a couple water dispensers in back which is nice, but there's no price listed anywhere. I really want this kind of place to survive..... but it's just so pricey; and then the service wasn't great either.

So I stopped in at the Emerald Forest during lunch one day. I was pretty sure this local health food and supplement store would carry it. They did have mineral salts deodorant -- two varieties in fact. The health and beauty section was probably the best-stocked part of the store, so I browsed around in the toothpastes, soaps and lotions for awhile. Every product I picked up was cruelty-free, and most were organic too. I made my way through the rest of the store more quickly because unlike the health and beauty aides, the other sections weren't quite as well-stocked, that is until I reached the vitamins and supplements. Emerald Forest's selection rivals GNC in this area, which must be their bread and butter. If you're used to the robust offerings at Whole Foods you won't be impressed by Emerald Forest. But if you just need the odd jar of amino acids or a big bottle of multi-vitamin and mineral supplements with whole food concentrates, they can hook you right up.

When stacked against giants like Whole Foods, you have to come in expecting that merchandise would be on the low side but here it's almost non-existent. I stopped counting the empty produce bins and shelves early on. Selection was scarce for many of my usual staples - cereals/granola, yogurt and pizzas. Their selection of herbal teas weren't bad with a full line of Celestial Seasonings, Yogi and Stash teas. Unfortunately, I have had the pleasure of experiencing Trader Joe's and that makes me almost shy away from any other place because their selection, pricing and service always outshine the rest, including Whole Foods or Wild Oats. For small shops, I always look for quality, selection and the friendliness of the workers, all of which were lacking substantially at Emerald. Not my kind of jewel.

We…read moreshop here several times a week and have generally trusted the pricing and customer service, which made this situation even more frustrating. A loaf of Brioche bread was clearly marked at $5 on the display stand, but it rang up at $7 at checkout. When we questioned it, the clerk went back, took a photo of the display and explained that the sign was only meant to "draw attention" and was not actually the price for that bread. That explanation made little sense, especially since the bread on the display appeared to be the same product. My wife later called and spoke with the manager, Kelly, regarding what we viewed as false or misleading advertising. Unfortunately, the response was dismissive and unapologetic. Rather than acknowledging the confusion or offering to make it right, the pricing display was defended by claiming the marked price applied to bread on the other side of the stand. What concerns me most is how many customers likely never notice these discrepancies. We only caught it by chance, and I suspect many others simply pay the higher amount without realizing it. After being longtime loyal customers, this experience and the lack of accountability have caused us to reconsider shopping here. Leadership should be aware of how situations like this are handled because customer loyalty can disappear quickly when trust is lost.
