There are definitely two nearby Thai restaurants in Buxton, and you'd be probably good to choose…read moreeither one. We chose this one because it's the hardest one to actually get reservations at because of how popular it is. That decision wasn't incorrect. Simply Thai creates really authentic recipes with quite authentic spice levels, considering the UK demographic doesn't always appreciate super spicy food. Coming from Los Angeles, the home of 1.5 million Thai, this place hit the spot. Noodle dishes are all correctly prepared, light and taste, never greasy or oily, and replete with plenty of vegetables. The one caution I would give to people not familiar with Thai. Food is to ask for suggestions if you can't tolerate fairly strong spice levels. Because these are the real recipes. It's an elegant restaurant with a very luxury feeling atmosphere. Be careful on the steps down to the WC as they are very steep and small. This is Buxton so it's basically central lot parking or be really lucky to find a street spot.

Given it was a Monday night, the place was still quite busy but they were able to seat us within a couple minutes without a booking. We were tired and didn't want to make decisions so we ordered set meal B, recommended for two people. It included soup, starters, three mains, and tea. The soup blew us away! It was "lick the bowl" delicious. We didn't, but we wanted to... the starters came next. We each received a sampling of about four items with accompanying sauces. Everything was so tasty. The mains course spectacular was the duck red curry! The sauce was exceptional! So very flavorful and savory. The ginger chicken had a hard time standing up in comparison. The veggie dish was also very good with a nice little kick to it. We could not finish all the food between the two of us. Highly highly recommend!

Basically it looks a lot cooler from outside with the indoor a bit 'average caf' like although the fact that you can see everything being cooked in front of you is a really novel and cool way to showcase that this place is all about good quality food. Although they do some tasty cafe items like burgers, sandwiches and snacks they're also a place where you can enjoy coffee and cake - and the cake selection is pretty epic! Our merry bunch of eaters all looked like the strangest, most eclectic 'orderers' ever with my wife and sister in law mainly enjoying cake and myself just going for a "light snack" of the ham hock terrine for £4.95. For this price I was expecting a little tiny bite, really not much to it but I was surprised to get a giant plate of ham hock, fresh bread, salads, pasta and loads more. It was so fresh and so tasty too - definitely something I'll go out of my way to have again if I'm up this way (I just won't have lunch plans afterwards too...) Friendly staff and seating for about 15 outdoors - with only 5 mins walk to Buxton train station. A really good spot and a place I'd recommend checking out.

No idea why people are raving about this place. The service is painfully slow and the food no…read morebetter than a road side cafe, but twice the price. To top it off, we were sat at the stable doors and it stunk of drains. Never again.

I was so pleased that the service at an adjacent restaurant was so poor…read more that we left and came into this place which I understand has been open about six months. After being greeted with a cheery Bonjour, we sat in some chairs just inside the entrance and had espresso and proper coke from a bottle. We then made the fatal mistake of looking at the menu snack menu, dinner menu, wine list, beer menu, drinks menu etc. Having by now whetted our appetites with a very acceptable house Merlot we spied some comfy sofas in teh bar are and went and slumped on them. Then we orderd food. I had snails, smoked eel and friends had the mixed cheese, goats cheese, shellfish with creamed potato (coquille St. Jacques) and a salad Paysanne. I had ordered the frogs legs but they had sold out. In what was a really nice touch the chef came out to apologise for having run out but promised me the snails and eel would make up for it. The smoked eel was really tasty. The snails wre a bit over garnished for my liking thought. The mixed cheese platter was simply outstanding and for £7.10 was great value. It was a truly fantastic, laid back, refreshing meal. Great drinks, company and surrounds. Next time we go we are going to spend the whole day there. Staff great, decor bright and modern, toilets clean. Highly recommended. With all the wine and food it came to just under £80 for four which was great for the experience we had.
