I had cut my son's hair into an intentional mullet about a year ago, and more recently had gotten way too confident in my abilities and had completely screwed it up. I was trying to find a stylist who was comfortable cutting kids hair as well as with curly hair, and who could fix my mistakes. They called me back to let me know Kellie was willing to take on the challenge and fit me in for today (Friday)! The salon is super cute and clean, I'd walked by recently and noticed the Kevin Murphy in the window as I use it and love it. Everyone inside was very welcoming and kind. I walked thru what I was hoping to achieve with Kellie and she got to work! I'd cut his hair too short and too blunt, which was killing his curls and making it get way too frizzy too easily. My son sat on my lap cause he was feeling shy and clingy, but she was able to accommodate. He sat very still so we were able to chat while she cut, which was nice! She buzzed the sides a bit, texturized his hair, added layers, and evened out the length of his bangs and hair. In the end, it's exactly what I was hoping for! Using the Vagaro app, I booked an appointment with Vanessa, who seemed to have a lot of good reviews! When I arrived for my appointment, she was wrapping up with another client, which is absolutely expected when you go to any sort of salon appointments, so there was no frustration on my end. She wrapped up shortly and brought me to her chair and was super warm and friendly -- she even offered sparkling sodas and drinks, which was a nice treat before sitting in her chair. As for consultation, since it was my first time meeting her, I showed her a few pictures of inspiration, but also invited her for her advice and expertise on what would suit my face shape and my natural hair and she was able to give great recommendations and while also acknowledging the inspo pics that I shared with her which I really appreciated. During the appointments, we definitely got to know each other on a personal level while also getting some great hair advice on how to care & style my hair as I had a lot of questions around that -- so I definitely feel so much more educated and confident around how to take care of my mane moving forward. Then browsed through Yelp and satisfied myself from the reviews I read. The best part is I followed their instructions yesterday from their website calling them to see about their waiting list. I wasn't sure when I'd be free due to my girlfriend needed to be seen at Kaiser and she suggested since I'm waiting to take my chances with their waiting list availability and tried for 4:30 ish. But then she came out and was told her prescriptions would take 20 to 30 minutes. I called back to say her appointment was taking longer than expected, the gal on the phone was very understanding and suggested to schedule for today Saturday around 11am. I arrived this morning earlier than expected but the gal at the front desk said I'm next. Fabulous! I was then seated at Homa's station. She's very nice and listened to my concerns about not wanting the type of cut that seems popular these days with the shaved close-to-the-bone sides and I'm just not into looking like the masses and told her I trusted her suggestion. Well, I'm happy to say I'll be going back as a regular customer! Homa is a treasure, thank you so much! My girlfriend who usually seems disappointed at the cuts I've received from the different gals at Great Clips was quite pleased. I'm not talking down at Great Clips but too often a different person with minimal notes from prior cuts asking me which number for the clipper size which I never know, they never seem to educate me on the differences, and then go to scissors but each time its a different cut no matter what. Over the years, he has always taken great care of both of us. He's professional, patient, friendly, and genuinely pays attention to what each of us wants. My son is nine now and has basically grown up getting his haircuts here, which makes the experience feel much more personal than simply going somewhere for a haircut.
