TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE!! I don't see how this bank stays in business. Every other month I get locked out of my account and have to call the customer service line to reset my password, not to mention that the csr department is ONLY open Monday-Friday. They should be fined for the inconvenience. This bank is a complete joke and a waste of time. I'll. E closing my account with them on Monday. INCOMPETENCE!!! I financed a vehicle with Nationwide. 5 months later, they had yet to release the title to my state's DMV so I was unable to register a vehicle I had made 5 monthly payments on. I paid for insurance and state inspection but couldn't use it. It was parked on a street with no license plate. So I file formal complaints with the OH Attorney General, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and the BBB. Nationwide Bank provided no clear explanation for the delay. It took about 5 months to get the first apology from customer service manager MALLORY. But after committing to resolving it, not only did she not call me back as promised, she ignored my 15+ calls to her over the following 3 weeks or so (my phone records support this). She gave me her direct line, I never asked for it. So why doesn't she ever pick-up the phone? CARMEN (from their title dept.) also promised to return my call but didn't. And the hold time often exceeds 45 minutes! I was told an electronic title was sent to DMV about 2 months ago: It wasn't. I missed time from work going 3 or 4 times to DMV after being told the title was there, but it just wasn't.. The DMV supervisor felt so bad for me she tried calling Nationwide herself but never got through. ANNE C., while being very kind, has ignored my last three emails. I know she is getting them because she responded to the first then completely ignored me when afterwards. She promised IN WRITING to the Better Business Bureau to overnight the title to me but just never did. But late one night, I got an idea: I emailed 3 of their executives (CEO ANDREW WALKER and Director of ops VICKIE GANTZ among others). Within 12 hours, I got a call from Nationwide manager WILLIAM O. who summoned his employees on a conference call with me and got this resolved the very same day! It took nearly 5 months to resolve an issue that just required sending one fax to my local DMV. TO NATIONWIDE: This is not just incompetence, it is blatant disregard for your customers and total disrespect for those you claim to serve. I feel cheated by your staff and still haven't been made whole. read more

After pulling the ability to transfer funds through ACH to an external bank account, Nationwide now no longer sends a confirmation letter when you renew a certificate of deposit. I renewed a $200K CD in April and Nationwide sent me no written confirmation of the renewal, the term or the new rate. I had to call them and request a written confirmation letter so that I had some sort of proof that they were in receipt of $200K. This is the most ridiculous business practice that I have ever heard of from a bank. Needless to say I will be pulling my money out of Nationwide at my CD maturity date and moving it to a more desirable bank. read more

NOT recommended. There are many online-only checking accounts you can set up very easily - search for reviews of the better ones before even trying Nationwide Bank. First: They only take customer service calls during (yikes) "Bankers Hours", something I thought was a thing of the past. That is, if you can get through to one of their few reps in Ohio. Second: They happily take your money for your "initial deposit", which can be done via credit/debit card. However you can't later fund the account using a credit/debit card. Third: After they take your "initial deposit", they place your account "on hold" pending further verification of your identity and physical address, by faxing or scanning/emailing documents. Something NOT mentioned at any point before taking your initial deposit, unless it's buried deep in the TOS... but the experience leading up to that indicates that you'd be using the account the same day or next day. I sent them copies of a medical bill, driver's license, and the letter they sent me, and that wasn't enough. So I sent them an IRS letter, a BMV letter, and even (just to show how unnecessary their practices are) my pacemaker ID card (which has my name and address). They still aren't convinced that I live at this address! As utilities are not in my name where I live, that's all I have. Frankly the DL should be more than enough. And there are other ways they can verify like the way everyone else does... So this was 3 weeks ago, and I still await a response, a refund of my $55, or any form of communication from them. I would do a charge-back but I'd have to cancel my card, get a new number, and reset some auto-pays... but if it comes down to it, that may be my only course of action. Nationwide should stick to Insurance, because they are no good at being a bank. They are definitely not "on your side" as a banking institution. Bottom line, search for a more established online bank like Simple or any of the other well-reviewed banks. read more

Look at all these bad reviews. I'm not surprised. The absolute worst customer service. The still have a lienholders declaration on my home years after I paid off my HELOC. Have asked them several times to remove it. Now its holding up another loan and I can't get through to them on the phone. On hold two times for 30 minutes before being put on the call back list. On call back 3 times today and never got a call. I had problems with them from the very start and now they're creating headaches for my years after doing business with them. STAY AWAY read more

I would NEVER! Go with this company for a car loan. This company is so crooked! I'm not one at all to "post my problems", but this I feel all people need to know! And I'm prepared and sooo ready to scream it from a rooftop... SUE. There is way too much to share on a post, but if you want to be continuously lied to, screamed at by ignorant ( uneducated ) "managers", call recordings magically erased, them dipping their hands in your bank account whenever they want and for any amount ( $2,000 over two months ), papers they say they never get!!!, then go with this company. With this company I've learned that you need to record your own calls, and take pictures of EVERYTHING you send. They don't even deserve one star. They've been sending my account information when over drafted to a completely different address than what's listed. Thankfully it was my moms address because we use to share an account when I was younger but how the heck did they even get her address and make that link?? This is for an auto loan only. Tried to get a mortgage through them but fortunately I secured a loan through another lender with cheaper closing costs and a lower interest rate. My auto loan was not the greatest process in the world but I like the convenience of having the payment come straight out of my pay. I need the title sent to Florida, it's been over 3 months now and still not there. I have called too many times to count. I did see a review that said he experienced poor customer service, I'd take that at this point as I'm not getting any customer service at all. Surprising and disappointing they are such a poor organization. Hopefully they will be able to get it together sooner than later. read more

The customer service is terrible! After I provided them with all the information they blocked my account without notice. I called sermon why I couldn't access my account and no one knew. They promised to call me back over and over again and never did. The easiest transaction with them was calling up to close my account. I'm glad this nightmare is over! read more

Now you can't make a transfer without calling customer service where you wait...and wait....and wait....and........................................................still waiting and listening to crappy elevator music. Some of the reps are just flat out horrible, sound like they hate their jobs and can't wait to get off the phone with you. Sadly, this has been the attitude of the women who've answered (IF I stay on the line long enough to actually GET an answer). no star for this bank. i had issued a check by photo in the month of june. the funds were added to my account and then blocked. because they wanted a copy of the check by the sender verifying that they release the funds . even if after 3 days the money got placed in my account. its now july 27th and they will not un block my account. i sent them a copy of the cashed check via e-mail and post mail and still the run arounds continue. customer act as if you are wasting their time. i will be shutting down my accounts as soon as my account is un block... dont go here is you need your funds they will mess you up.. read more

If I could give them no stars I would. I paid off my HELOC almost three years ago and they never prepared a lien release to send to the county. i would never do business with this bank ever ever again. i have a 5 year cd. with this bank and they have screwed up royally. from sending me monthly checks that i did not ask for. to only giving me intrest for 6 months of the year. and totally screwing up my cd 1099 intrest. first only 6 months to one year and 21 days intrest on my 1099. i wouldnt send a rat do do business with nation wide bank. dont do business with this bank unless you want to get screwed over trust me read more

I have my auto loan through them and it is just a nightmare I had direct withdrawal which dropped my rate 1% I switched checking account to another bank because that bank had closed down and I lost that 1% and it was the biggest pain to get direct withdrawal hooked up to my account again avoid this bank at all cost read more

These people are illegally coming after me for a balance on a vehicle which I relinquished in a bankruptcy matter 12 years ago. I gave up the vehicle, and the deficiency balance was discharged in a Chapter 7. Federal law precludes them attempting to collect the balance. 12 years later, my credit is stellar, and I refinanced a Jeep Cherokee with Nationwide. Suddenly the deficiency balance on the vehicle from 12 years ago appears in my Nationwide record. Oops - they say -- it's a mistake, they'll remove it immediately. That was last summer. Now, their goons are calling me again (September 2017). Both times, illegal contact. Against federal law. This time, they say that their records do not show that the vehicle was relinquished, so they think I still have the car from 12 years ago. Even if I did still have the car, they would not be permitted to contact me about it. Worse? They now have a new cell phone number for me I've only had for a week, which is on my husband's account, so they got it by running a skip trace on me and/or my husband. I will be contacting my attorney about this matter. I will never refinance any vehicles with them again. read more

If I can give them no stars I would. A nightmare at its finest. Had open my account in May 2015 turned in all required documents, that's the only way you can get an account. Well it's July 21,2015 my account is blocked after I deposit my funds to pay my bills. I live in California where there is no Nationwide bank, you can use U.S. bank in California to deposit into your nationwide bank account. So that I did. account is blocked I had to send them a receipt of my cash deposit, and copy of my drivers license stating my address. I faxed it over the same day the requested it which was July 21, 2015 I spoke to Chad Stevens and he said that's all they needed and it would take 3 business days to go over documents. Well on July 23 I called back to check the status and this is when the told me they needed additional information for some deposits I made to my account totaling $200. They needed to see my bank statement where the money. Was deducted out of faxed that over they also needed a written statement saying I didn't have any bills or cellphone bill with my address on it. Which was odd because like I stated in the beginning I had an account since May which no one ever called or email saying they needed anything only with I deposited my bill money this happens. Never received a phone after the 21st or email saying they needed more documents. Right now I'm late in paying my bills. They are still putting me through the ringer as we speak someone from there lost department called after I requested a call back from them. She called I didn't receive her call she didn't leave a message at all. You would think that she would leave a message telling me something. About what's going on if I missed her call. I'm really on the edge because it's my bills I have to pay and the have my money hostages for no reason at all. I will take further matters on this situation because it's not right. read more

Recently signed up with the online part of Nationwide Bank. Did the requested opening amount deposit. Then deposited another check. Then when I deposited a larger check, that is when the fun began. They cleared the funds and made them available after the 2nd business day as their policy. I withdrew some funds the following day after availability. It wasnt until I tried to pay for dinner the next night that it was apparent something was wrong. Card declined, with over 1400.00 balance available on a 30 dollar bill. Tried to login, account was locked. Can't get in to see balance or do anything. After hours, no one available via phone except for lost or stolen debit/credit cards. Called the next morning at 5:00a PDT, the 27th of March 2015. Was told that they locked the account because they need a copy of the check that I deposited. Which they have a copy of because you take a photo of the front and back to deposit it. Called again at 9:00PDT the 27th to verify what they needed. They once again verified they just wanted a copy of the DEPOSITED check item. I did in fact get the same call center representative both times. I scanned in front and back and sent the copy of the check as THEY Requested to the email address for verification and then was told it could take up to 3 business days to get cleared up and unlocked. I checked today the 31st of March 2015. Account still locked. Called the call center. Got a representative that says they recieved copy of check but they need copy of the cleared check item. It is not my freaking check, was written to me. I am supposed to go bother my customer and make them furnish me a copy of someones private account information. They stated without that the account will remain locked until the 7th of April 2015. They are holding all funds including those that were in the account of of sight and access. These are crooks. They have no clue how to provide customer service. If they need verification on an item, they dont call. They send you a letter that takes 10 days to get, and lock out your visa debit card and account access. For the record. The check cleared my customers bank on the 24th of March, 2015. One day after I deposited the item. Yet they claim they still dont know if it cleared. Their practices are immoral and just down right rediculous. Do not join up with this bank if you enjoy having someone else control your money and cut off your access to it. Poor, poor customer service and business practices. Will not, and do not recommend this bank to anyone. Too bad, thought I had found a decent banking faclity. Hope you learn from your mistakes Nationwide Bank.
