Took misc. items including a wedding set in. The salesperson took 2 items aside and said "I can give you a few dollars for these two pieces, they are not gold. I said "Excuse me but these items were a gift from my father-in-law. He was a manufacturing jeweler, I know these items are gold." She tested them and of made light of it but if I had not known what I had she would have been the proud owner of my gold for a " few dollars". Also, when weighing my loot, one small piece seemed to "accidentally" fall on the floor. If I hadn't seen that I probably would be missing that piece. I am a senior citizen and maybe I look like an easy mark? I sold my silver but I did not sell any gold today. WARNING: Do NOT Trust National Rarities With Your Valuables -- Complete Scam Tactics I reached out to National Rarities with a serious inquiry regarding several original art pieces by respected artists such as Charles Dix, Franklin Moody, Carol Grigg, and other notable Southwestern names -- plus a mint condition Invicta Reserve automatic watch. What I received in return was not only an insult, but a blatant attempt to scam me. The representative claimed my original artworks were only worth $25 to $100 each. For the Invicta Reserve watch, she had the nerve to offer $10 -- "if it's running". Yes, you read that right. I've seen more honest low ball offers on Facebook Marketplace. When I pushed back and called out how absurd and disrespectful her "valuation" was, she scrambled for excuses. She claimed "even if your Invicta is brand new in the box, it is considered second hand and doesn't sell well in secondhand market," and that she used AskArt to determine artwork prices. Here's the kicker: I already use AskArt and have a professional valuation for my Charles Dix original -- it's worth over $6,000. Either she lied, or she made no effort to check credible data. This isn't just bad business. It's predatory. It's designed to take advantage of people who may not know the value of what they have, or who are in a tight financial spot like I am. Lucky for me I know what I have, I've done my research and have no problem calling out people and businesses like this.
