I brought in 6 Tiffany & Co dessert forks in the 'Japanese' pattern stamped 'Tiffany & Co. Pat. 1871'. Girl told me they were silver plate, they weren't interested and tossed them at me. If you're going to offer flatware buying you should at least be knowledgeable enough to pull out a magnet to check. Tiffany never even produced this pattern in silver plate. I realize they have time constraints, but it seems like they are only looking for scrap. I did not show them the rest of my pieces, went to my local jeweler and sold the 6 forks for $1500. read more

They had a "buying event" local to my area in Central PA. I went in already knowing the exact melt value and retail value of the pieces in order to test their integrity. I handed them a cartier cigarette box to test if they could even identify anything. They had no idea what they were looking at. Absolutely clueless from multiple "appraisers" they had at the event and they were just using google lens. They offered me 36.4% of the scrap value. I was offered 6000 dollars less than the spot value of 14k gold at the time. And that is just the melt value of a designer brand. He says "you have $4,000 sitting here" to try to get me to quick sell at an insane loss. I could literally go to a local pawn shop and get a better offer. They should genuinely be ashamed of themselves. A reputable or honest jeweler buying scrap from you can get 90% of scrap market value from the refiner they send your gold to and they will likely offer you 60-80%. Less than 40% is genuinely egregious and borderline scamming. Interesting how they changed their tone and mood when I point out I can just send it to the refiner myself and get 90%. Their business model is to lowball the elderly and give you a terrible value on your precious metals. They are betting you can't use google or a scale yourself to tell what the real value is. Avoid this place at all costs especially if you are elderly/not tech savvy. Do not let shady characters with no moral compass extract value from your estate. Protect your estate for you and your loved ones. Find a trustworthy jeweler, buy your own scale, weigh your gold, and compare the price to the spot value. Anything less than 60%, don't even bother. Don't listen to the "gold is just so high now" excuse that shady jewelers use. read more
