After doom-scrolling Uber estimates of the $100-$125 per ride (plus the emotional cost of maybe getting a Toyota Corolla that smells like gym socks), I looked online and found Ride In Style. Preet responded fast, quoted me a fair price...honestly...it was only slightly more than what a rideshare would've cost. Worth. Every. Penny. The cars? Clean, spacious, and didn't smell like sadness or Febreze. The drivers? Total pros. They texted us ahead of time, met us at the curb like royalty (no dragging our bags across the airport to find some mystery JFK pickup zone), and were exactly where they said they'd be. This was completely on the fly and it was due to their stellar Yelp reviews that I even found about Mondrion (also known as Level Limo). So many car service companies, especially of the limo variety feel somewhat scammy -- almost like they're trying to hustle you into agreeing on a price. Alex was extremely professional with me and went as far as to ask me what my budget was so we could work within it. He helped ease my concerns with the number of passengers I had and was very good about recommending various vehicles to cruise in for the few hours that we had. All in all, it was roughly $80 an hour with a standard gratuity of 20% for use of the Mercedes Sprinter van that included a very cool driver who I simply gave directions to while he drove us in various parts of the borough. My invoice was provided via email as I asked and the ground rules (there are many) were laid out prior to us stepping into the vehicle. All deposits are non-refundable, so ask for all the information you can get before you commit. Some fees that folks should be aware of: $100 for carpet / seat burns. $250 for sanitation issues. They stress no drinking in the car and smoking is not permitted. I appreciated the upfront rules and it was never an issue with our trip. I'll be ready to give them a call again when I'm ready for another motorized tour / group excursion. After being picked up Newark Airport and driven home, a few hours later I received an email from the company saying they were charging my partner and me a $15 fee, when we asked why they said it was because our baggage was "large" and "heavy." There is nothing on their website that states an extra fee may apply, and no definition of what large or heavy mean. We each had one suitcase, normal size for checked baggage. In fact, we used their car service in the past with the same luggage and there were no issues or extra fees. When we had checked in before our flight both suitcases weighed about 40 lbs, well below the weight limit for checked luggage. Due to the lack of customer service and surprise fees based on no legitimate evidence, we won't be using this car service again.
