    Last month I had to go to Sudbury for the day. I had made an online reservation weeks in advance…read moreto rent an intermediate car from Budget at the Sudbury airport. When I arrived, I was advised that Budget had no cars so my reservation had been passed on to National Car Rental (I discovered this when I checked in). National Car Rental gave me two choices ... a small car or a pick-up truck. A pick-up truck?! I chose the small car since I was just going to be there for the day. When I got in the car, it smelled like cigarette smoke, even though it was supposed to be a non-smoking car. Plus the truck was full was cardboard. When I returned the car, I told them about these two issues and they waived the charges.

    My girlfriend made a reservation for a truck a few days before Monday, July 22, 2013. The…read morereservation was made under my name and she informed the agent at the branch that I had a coupon for $20 off as well as a BCD number. The agent informed her to bring both of the items into the branch upon picking up the truck. I went to the branch on Tuesday, July 23 with my friend who would be driving the truck. I explained to the agent that I was renting the truck for my friend and charging the rental on my credit card - my friend did not have a credit card. I also explained to the agent that I would not be driving the truck at any point in time. The agent was not courteous at all. On each of my requests he said the following: i) with respect to the $20 off coupon - he accepted the coupon ii) with respect to the BCD number - he would not off 25% off on the rental charges. He said the system only showed him 5% off. I showed him the details of the BCD (BCD # A668600) on Budget website (http://www.budget.ca/truck/en/deals/carp.php) and indicated to him that rentals picking up on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday are eligible for 25% off. He said the system only offered 5%. In addition, he said that the 5% off would only be on the base rental rate of $89.99 and not base rate and mileage (as indicated on the website). iii) upon requesting to speak with the manager, he said he was the manager. Upon requesting to speak with the head office, he said I would have to call myself and that he was not authorized to call head office/customer service. I called customer service in front of him and was given the run around - speak to Budget Truck but the transfer was to Budget Truck US who mentioned that I would have to deal with the branch directly. iv) with respect to my friend being the sole driver of the truck, he said I would have to pay for an additional driver of $10 - I told him again that I would not be driving the truck whatsoever and yet he refused. He said I would have to pay for the additional driver. v) being disgruntled I said to him I will rent elsewhere - he said to go ahead and rent elsewhere. I called around town and was unable to book another truck on such short notice. Having no choice I tried to plead with the agent to help me. vi) I informed him again that I would not be able to come into the branch on the following day (Wednesday, July 24) to pick up the truck with my friend and that I wanted to provide my credit card information and authorize rental charges. The agent informed me that I could not rent the truck if I was not in the branch on the day of pickup. I pleaded with him again to help me - I asked him why he was being difficult and that why didn't he want my business. He informed me that he didn't care for my business. He wasn't the branch franchise owner; he only worked/managed for the owner. He said I could care less if you rent from me or give me your business; I don't work on commission - I get paid regardless of whether you rent here or not. At this point, I was appalled at his gestures and comments. Never in my years have I had an experience like this where an employee/ agent/ owner was so difficult and didn't care for my business or spoke in that manner. After much pleading and requesting him to help me out, he approved the use of the credit card and allowed me to rent the truck for my friend one day in advance. I would not rent from here again!
