To say this man saved my life would be an understatement. No one should HAVE to go to a neurologist. But, for those like me, where it's medically a necessity, this is the man to see. I'll admit, I'm a snob when it comes to medicine. It's a field I've dedicated my career and it's a field I take serious. I only choose those who are superior in their field. Not only does Dr. Kao know a lot about a lot of things, not only is he a researcher who is abreast of all the new therapies, not only does he have a compassionate bedside manner and talk to you, he's just a nice kind man all around. He's a genuine man, who even visits you bedside in the hospital, he guides your care, and is aggressive and thorough with treatment. He doesn't half any thing. He gives you his all. He even does the nerve conduction test (EMG) himself to ensure accuracy. When I was first told to come to him, I bubble snotty begged him to help me not get to the extreme. His response, "I won't. We'll do this together". His staff is great. Molly, the head nurse? Love, Love. I'm a busy person and she is diligent with the Follow-up. She ensures you don't skip through the crack regardless how busy you get. The front desk staff?? Love again. They even have an app to communicate your health status. I honestly don't want to recommend anyone to come to him. I've very possessive about him and honestly want to keep him to myself. He's literally the best kept secret. But, if you do need a neurologist, I MIGHT let you borrow mine. I MIGHT... no promises.

It was horrible! I had to call at least 7 times to get an update and when I called my information had not been added to the system. Therefore I had to speak with Rebecca the office manager to get an update and was assured that she would follow up with me; no follow up. I had to call her back. Finally I have the information I need. It only took 3 weeks and 2 days. I received an apology however it does not erase the experience. I am disappointed and hope that any future appointments/interactions will be a much better experience. Based on my experience and some of the comments the staff may need to have a refresher training on procedures, processes, standards and the customer experience. No one I spoke with had a clear answer for questions like "how soon should I expect a call back" or "how soon after an appointment should the patient info be loaded in the shared database" I feel that as a company there should be standards in place for simple questions like that. Thank you

He was pulling my hair at the root and saying it doesn't hurt but it did in fact hurt so out of surprise I said ow. When I got back to my car I realized he had already put a lot of super glue in my hair which he responded to with "you're on your own". never ever book an appointment with Ryder. EVER.

When he tried to…read moreperform a physical exam on my knees, he sprung a knee-jerk reaction that had me reach for his shoulder. This immediately angered him. He actually yelled at me "Do not touch me" very loudly. He then stormed out of the room. Why are you a doctor?? He was so blatant about it that my roommate (the patient sitting in the bed next to me) insisted on a complaint. There was no way to deny what occurred when three people (my sister who was there with me, myself and the patient in the next bed) all confirmed the same occurrence. Well a year later, as fate would have it, I am looking for a neurologist along the way near the hospital. I was supposed to be scheduled for Dr. Reim, but I don't know what happened. I get there, Dr. Anshar is checking in patients (what a sweet guy, by the way). And I get called back and its Dr. Li. However, I didn't remember who he was and I am assuming he didn't remember me either because he asked me why was I here, etc. So I tell him my story. As I am telling him my story, he interrupts me with statements like "so you want me to treat your pain, you want me to give you something for your pain" and in my head, I am thinking that this guys isn't really nice at all. He is making quick presumptions to me on why I was there. I finally had to tell him that I don't want to just treat my pain, I want to find out what is causing it, which is why I am here and sent to a neurologist by my rheumatologist. I guess it starts to "click" in his brain that I might be the same person who complained against him. Good for him to remember before I did because I wasn't feeling him at all. He quickly leaves the room and about 5 minutes later, returns telling me that he was the one that I reported in the hospital and he doesn't think this will be a good doctor-patient relationship. So, he said he can't see me, he gets up again to escort me out of his office. I asked him if there was any way I could see Dr. Reim and he states "You will not see Dr. Reim". I must say that what troubled me the most from this experience is that in no way did he apologize and try to make amends. If he was having a bad day at the hospital that day, it would suffice to at least apologize while I am there in the office with your second chance. Nope! I guess he is who he is. Very cold and callous. If he is a great neurologist, you wouldn't know because you have to first get past that thick exterior. And I understand that there are a lot of people that have social anxieties. Maybe he is one of them. But if you are going to continue to practice the art of medicine, you will have to interact with people and I implore you to have better patience with your patients. Maybe a smile wouldn't hurt.

Earlier this year in January of 2020 I woke up with the most debilitating pain in my head. I…read morethought it may be a migraine because of the symptoms I endured (headache, sensitivity to light and sound, etc.) It was at the point that I went to the ER twice in one week. I had no relief and was distraught and hopeless. After a week of pain, I knew a migraine would not last this long and my primary doctor referred me to Dr.G. From the moment I walked in the door at the Center for Brain & Neuro Care I was greeted with joy and felt hopeful. After doctors saying over and over again it is a migraine and would go away, Dr. G actually listened and asked the right questions. She recognized symptoms that other doctors had not considered, and on the spot predicted my diagnosis before any of the scans/procedures revealed information. I had what is known as a spinal headache as a result of a spontaneous CSF leak that occurred while lifting weights. Dr. G recognized the symptoms such as : pain increased while sitting up, pain between shoulder blades, vertigo, and tinnitus. Within minutes of meeting Dr.G, I knew I could trust her and I finally felt heard. Dr. G genuinely cares about her patience and I was able to build relationships with her and her staff that gave me the hope and encouragement I needed to get better. Due to the rarity/severity of my condition, it has been a long road to full recovery. However, here I am 8 months later feeling 100% back to normal. I continue to feel the support and love from the staff and will miss getting to see them on a monthly basis. Thank you Dr. G, Michael, Jessica, and Courtney for all you have done for me. You guys have made such an impact on my life and I am grateful, and certain, I would not have gotten through it without you!

Unorganized, unprofessional office staff that have poor communications ability, no professionalism…read moreand compassion towards patients. My first visit a NEW patient and their family exited from an appointment screaming that they will NEVER COME BACK!" My appointment time as 2 pm, I arrived at 1:45 pm. I wasn't called back to be seen until 3:30. My entire appointment was over 2 hours. MEDICAL ERRORS. A medical assistant/Scribe named Anik Saha, entered the exam room with this statement..."So you have MS." As though I was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy (MS). I was MORTIFIED because I do not have MS, nor been diagnosed with it!!!!!! I proceeded to tell him I do not have MS and he had the audacity to debate me, saying "you don't know you have MS?" FINALLY, he looked at the computer screen and recognized that I am not the patient that has MS that was supposed to be placed in the exam room I was in. This incident was EGREGIOUS, HORRIFIC and as I recount it, I find it UNBELIEVABLE and it has left me traumatized. However, Dr. G tried her best to pacify the incident by telling me this person is very bright and completed a 4 year medical program in 3 years and was highly recommended. She said that today was his first day on the job. My response was, "While he might be book smart, what he just did by not following protocol and his engagement with me afterward, and lack of a sincere apology is a liability to her practice. She said, she will "give him a strong reprimand but later said, she may make his first day his last day." Today, May 14th, I had a 9:30 am appointment her office staff messed up the time and had it down for 2:00 pm. My appointment date and time is on a printed sheet with other appointments but the appointment today that they messed up was handwritten by the appointment scheduler. I arrived at 9 am for my 9:30 am appointment. The office staff were rude and in fact lied in my face that they told me the appointment was changed. They casually asked if I could come back at 2pm. I said NO, I am not returning and cancel any other appointments you have for me! Mind you, before this happened I overheard another patient upset because they messed up her appointment too. Needless to say, while Dr. G has good credentials as a Neurologist, the office staff that represents her really is a discredit to her entire practice. They are unprofessional, have attitudes and lie. Furthermore, the medical assistant that made the egregious mistake of telling me I am an MS patient and arguing with me is still employed with her practice. I saw him this morning. This alone diminished my confidence that Dr. G. understands the gravity of the situation that happened nor a person of her word or a physician I can trust with my medical care. Dr. G is notorious for making too many appointments and the standard for this practice appears to be longggggggggggggg patient waits and inadequate treatment by her staff. I now have to start over again to find a competent Neurologists office with a professional staff. The degree of mishandling and errors that exist with this practice is not worth the energy, time nor risk for any patient.

Dr. G. ordered a TEE test and determined the stroke was to to a PFO (a small bypass hole in my heart that had not closed since birth and allowed a small clot to enter my brain). Following her direction, I was sent to a surgeon who was able to close the PFO with a device, called an Amplatzer, in order to prevent a clot from causing another stroke. Since that time, I have had routine follow-up appointments to monitor my progress to recovery. Dr.G is very popular, but her time and advice has made my life to recovery very happy.

"those people are sick." That said, I arrived chauffeured, no less--and due to my route and symptoms, I bypassed the waiting room (won't He do it). Unlike an experience I had nine years ago, the ER staff this time were respectful, attentive, and genuinely kind--as were the staff on the observation floor. I was transported by wheelchair, and to humor myself, I asked them to pretend it was a sightseeing tour. They playfully obliged, which immediately set the tone. After a substantial dose of saline, I was alert enough to give a full history and explain my symptoms. Let me be clear: the staff did all the things. Their assessments, questions, testing, and care plan were appropriate and thorough. When physicians came in, I shared my fears and theories--and more than once, they responded with, "Yes, we thought the same," followed by a clear explanation of what had already been ordered, what was being rechecked, and what the next steps would be depending on the results. I could ask why something was being done, and they took the time to explain their clinical reasoning. I was genuinely impressed. The team functioned like a well-oiled machine--communicating seamlessly with one another across departments. Everything was clear, both verbally and in writing. What needs to be said--because it should be baseline and standard, yet so often is not--is that my humanity was respected. My symptoms were taken seriously. I was handled with care and dignity by everyone. I did not feel like a burden for having needs while sick. In fact, I rarely had to ask for anything because the staff anticipated my needs based on what I was actively battling. It felt very much like Chick-fil-A-level service: "my pleasure," "as you wish," and "we put extra napkins and a hand wipe in your bag because you might need it." I was seen. My nervous system was calmed by their presence and professionalism. The event that brought me there was scary enough--their care made it less so. Every department. Every role. Superior. It's evident that significant positive changes have occurred since Johns Hopkins took over. My prior experience here during a gallbladder attack years ago was the opposite--I was treated rudely and assumed to be drug-seeking. I left then with a diagnosis but no root cause and no real plan. This time, I received thorough, accurate care, a post-discharge plan, and everything was handled efficiently and respectfully. This is exactly how a hospital should be run: effective, efficient, thorough, communicative, respectful, and truly team-based. My only grievance is that despite living less than a quarter mile away, this hospital is now out of network due to UnitedHealthcare not reaching an agreement with Hopkins. That leaves me with astronomical bills--but exceptional, safe, respectful care. And honestly? I'll take it.
