My experience with Dr. Sanghvavey and the technician that did the nerve conduction test was great…read more They were easy to talk to and answered my questions, which is why I was surprised at how the follow up process went. It was horrible! I had to call at least 7 times to get an update and when I called my information had not been added to the system. Therefore I had to speak with Rebecca the office manager to get an update and was assured that she would follow up with me; no follow up. I had to call her back. Finally I have the information I need. It only took 3 weeks and 2 days. I received an apology however it does not erase the experience. I am disappointed and hope that any future appointments/interactions will be a much better experience. Based on my experience and some of the comments the staff may need to have a refresher training on procedures, processes, standards and the customer experience. No one I spoke with had a clear answer for questions like "how soon should I expect a call back" or "how soon after an appointment should the patient info be loaded in the shared database" I feel that as a company there should be standards in place for simple questions like that. Thank you

If I could give zero stars I would. The reception was kind enough, but I have never been treated so…read morebadly by a medical professional in my entire life. He was pulling my hair at the root and saying it doesn't hurt but it did in fact hurt so out of surprise I said ow. This made him so angry that he kicked me out of the office and refused to preform the EEG. When I got back to my car I realized he had already put a lot of super glue in my hair which he responded to with "you're on your own". never ever book an appointment with Ryder. EVER.

I too give Mr. Li zero stars. He was very awful when I stayed in the hospital. When he tried to…read moreperform a physical exam on my knees, he sprung a knee-jerk reaction that had me reach for his shoulder. This immediately angered him. He actually yelled at me "Do not touch me" very loudly. He then stormed out of the room. Why are you a doctor?? He was so blatant about it that my roommate (the patient sitting in the bed next to me) insisted on a complaint. There was no way to deny what occurred when three people (my sister who was there with me, myself and the patient in the next bed) all confirmed the same occurrence. Well a year later, as fate would have it, I am looking for a neurologist along the way near the hospital. I was supposed to be scheduled for Dr. Reim, but I don't know what happened. I get there, Dr. Anshar is checking in patients (what a sweet guy, by the way). And I get called back and its Dr. Li. However, I didn't remember who he was and I am assuming he didn't remember me either because he asked me why was I here, etc. So I tell him my story. As I am telling him my story, he interrupts me with statements like "so you want me to treat your pain, you want me to give you something for your pain" and in my head, I am thinking that this guys isn't really nice at all. He is making quick presumptions to me on why I was there. I finally had to tell him that I don't want to just treat my pain, I want to find out what is causing it, which is why I am here and sent to a neurologist by my rheumatologist. I guess it starts to "click" in his brain that I might be the same person who complained against him. Good for him to remember before I did because I wasn't feeling him at all. He quickly leaves the room and about 5 minutes later, returns telling me that he was the one that I reported in the hospital and he doesn't think this will be a good doctor-patient relationship. So, he said he can't see me, he gets up again to escort me out of his office. I asked him if there was any way I could see Dr. Reim and he states "You will not see Dr. Reim". I must say that what troubled me the most from this experience is that in no way did he apologize and try to make amends. If he was having a bad day at the hospital that day, it would suffice to at least apologize while I am there in the office with your second chance. Nope! I guess he is who he is. Very cold and callous. If he is a great neurologist, you wouldn't know because you have to first get past that thick exterior. And I understand that there are a lot of people that have social anxieties. Maybe he is one of them. But if you are going to continue to practice the art of medicine, you will have to interact with people and I implore you to have better patience with your patients. Maybe a smile wouldn't hurt.

While I appreciate how quickly I was able to get an appointment in with this office, Dr. Ruwani…read moreGunawardane definitely gives off the vibes that she is solely there for the money, and doesn't truly care for her patients. I did appreciate the friendly staff, and all of the testing Dr. Ruwani Gunawardane ordered to be thorough, but that is about it. Dr. Ruwani Gunawardane forced me to go to a specific radiology office (Charter Radiology), which was a horrible experience, and far from home for me. I was also forced to go to a specific pharmacy by her, which she claimed would make the medicine cheaper than going to the pharmacy my insurance actually covers, but it ended up being $10 more. She overbooks then rushes through appointments to compensate for that. She talks really fast, then gets annoyed when you don't understand something that was said, which is odd, as with this being a neurologist office, you would think she would have more patience with patients experiencing issues like brain fog. She also did not seem to actually listen to what I, the patient, was saying. I had to repeat the points I was trying to make multiple times, because she was more worried about rushing me out of there than actually listening to my concerns, and therefore wasn't understanding what I was saying. Even during the physical evaluation, where she had me tandem walking, she was too busy looking at and talking to her associate to even watch, until I lost balance and fell. Many things se wrote in her visit notes were completely inaccurate from what I said, and even from what she said during the appointments. The patient portal is also extremely outdated, and they don't post your test results on there, like they claim they do. This place is definitely a money grab for her, as they will find any opportunity to make you pay fees, even for simple things every other doctors office does for free, like prior authorization or printing prescriptions. My final straw with this doctor was when I had a 12:00 noon telehealth appointment set for during my lunch break at work. I was given zero instruction on how to join this telehealth, so I called the office at 11:30am, and they informed me that usually they call to check you in, then the doctor calls when she is ready. They said that since I called, they would check me in then, but the doctor was running just a little behind, however, she would call me by 12:15pm. At 12:25pm, I still had not received a call from the doctor, and had to be back at work at 12:45pm. I called the office for an update, and their phones were off. So, I sent a message in the patient portal (screenshot provided), stating that if I did not receive a call from the doctor by 12:35, I will not be able to do the appointment, and requesting that they not charge me, as it was not my fault. I spent my entire lunch break sitting in my car waiting for a call that I never even received. At 12:47pm, after I had started back at work, I received a call from the receptionist, who asked about the message I sent in the portal. When I reiterated everything to the receptionist and said that I was back at work, and could not talk anymore so we would have to reschedule, Dr. Ruwani Gunawardane snatched the phone from the receptionist and started coming up with excuses about her staff being late this morning and some nonsense about phone issues. I told her that was fine, but either way, I do not have time for this at this moment. She then tried to do the appointment anyway, forcing me to reiterate that I am back at work and cannot talk anymore. I told her that if she truly needed me to do a follow up, that's fine, I'll call and reschedule later, but as for right now, please do not charge me any fees or anything, and please do not charge my insurance for this visit, as it didn't happen. She started talking about how she has to charge my insurance bc that's how it works, which is odd, because how can you charge for a visit that didn't happen? I have notified my insurance of the situation, so hopefully she does not attempt to charge them.

Dr. G. ordered a TEE test and determined the stroke was to to a PFO (a small bypass hole in my heart that had not closed since birth and allowed a small clot to enter my brain). Following her direction, I was sent to a surgeon who was able to close the PFO with a device, called an Amplatzer, in order to prevent a clot from causing another stroke. Since that time, I have had routine follow-up appointments to monitor my progress to recovery. Dr.G is very popular, but her time and advice has made my life to recovery very happy.

Just a shout-out to the Emergency Room at Johns Hopkins Howard County…read more A friend had been coughing on and off. Then nearly fainted! So we masked-up and zipped over, late afternoon on a weekend. The ER staff were quick! Interview, admitting, getting an exam. The longest wait was for test results. It was an early-stage of pneumonia! Not contagious. A couple of antibiotics ought to knock it back. Johns Hopkins Howard County Emergency Room addressed the situation immediately and professionally. I just thought that's worth putting out there.

I had a medical emergency in October and was brought here by ambulance and led me to a 3 day/ 2…read morenight stay. Going to the ER is never on my bingo card because, well... "those people are sick." That said, I arrived chauffeured, no less--and due to my route and symptoms, I bypassed the waiting room (won't He do it). Unlike an experience I had nine years ago, the ER staff this time were respectful, attentive, and genuinely kind--as were the staff on the observation floor. I was transported by wheelchair, and to humor myself, I asked them to pretend it was a sightseeing tour. They playfully obliged, which immediately set the tone. After a substantial dose of saline, I was alert enough to give a full history and explain my symptoms. Let me be clear: the staff did all the things. Their assessments, questions, testing, and care plan were appropriate and thorough. When physicians came in, I shared my fears and theories--and more than once, they responded with, "Yes, we thought the same," followed by a clear explanation of what had already been ordered, what was being rechecked, and what the next steps would be depending on the results. I could ask why something was being done, and they took the time to explain their clinical reasoning. I was genuinely impressed. The team functioned like a well-oiled machine--communicating seamlessly with one another across departments. Everything was clear, both verbally and in writing. What needs to be said--because it should be baseline and standard, yet so often is not--is that my humanity was respected. My symptoms were taken seriously. I was handled with care and dignity by everyone. I did not feel like a burden for having needs while sick. In fact, I rarely had to ask for anything because the staff anticipated my needs based on what I was actively battling. It felt very much like Chick-fil-A-level service: "my pleasure," "as you wish," and "we put extra napkins and a hand wipe in your bag because you might need it." I was seen. My nervous system was calmed by their presence and professionalism. The event that brought me there was scary enough--their care made it less so. Every department. Every role. Superior. It's evident that significant positive changes have occurred since Johns Hopkins took over. My prior experience here during a gallbladder attack years ago was the opposite--I was treated rudely and assumed to be drug-seeking. I left then with a diagnosis but no root cause and no real plan. This time, I received thorough, accurate care, a post-discharge plan, and everything was handled efficiently and respectfully. This is exactly how a hospital should be run: effective, efficient, thorough, communicative, respectful, and truly team-based. My only grievance is that despite living less than a quarter mile away, this hospital is now out of network due to UnitedHealthcare not reaching an agreement with Hopkins. That leaves me with astronomical bills--but exceptional, safe, respectful care. And honestly? I'll take it.
