So am I that guy that sits behind a computer screen and leaves a poor review because I didn't think…read moreI got the service I paid for, or my food arrived cold, or worst yet, wasn't even what I ordered? Yea! I'm that guy! But not today. Today I'm here to speak of the service and care I received during my recent visit to the ER and Cardio Care Unit at Lake Cumberland Regional Medical Center. From the moment I walked into the ER and announced that I was suffering chest pains, right through to my discharge 21/2 days later, I could not have asked for better care. Within 5 minutes of arriving at the ER I was receiving an EKG to determine the source of my pain. I will never forget the words I heard. Massive Heart Attack!! How could this be happening to me? I was a very active 74 year old male with no heart problems in my entire life. The Cath Team that was on call was notified and my prep for the heart procedure started. By the time the ER personnel had me ready to be moved into the Cath lab, the team had arrived and were ready to take me in. Once there they were able to quickly determine that I had three blockages. The cardiologist began the process of inserting three stents into my heart. My wife, who had been provided with a private waiting room was kept informed of my status and the procedure that was being preformed. From the moment I entered the Cath Lab I was told "We got you, man! We're going to take good care of you! You are going to be okay!" I'm thinking, Didn't you hear that doctor say massive heart attack? People don't survive massive heart attacks!!!! How do you know I'm going to be okay?!? So there I lay. Not knowing if I would ever see my wife, my kids, my grandkids, or great grandkids ever again. It seemed like an eternity before the cardiologist told me he was finished and they were preparing a room for me in the Cardio Care Unit. How long had it actually been? 84 minutes since I walked into the ER. Did they have a great protocol? Heck yes they did. Did they follow that protocol? To the letter! Once in the Cardio Care unit, once again the message was clear. From the first nurse I met that I refer to as my Little Japanese Angel, that cared for me as if I were her own father, to each and every nurse that cared for me on both shifts, I could not have asked for better care. Not just the nurses, but also the lab techs, the dietitians, even the housekeeping staff. The message was always the same. We're going to take good care of you. You're going to be okay. This positive attitude was so reassuring and comforting. And then there was Steve. The first time I met Steve was when he came into my room to perform an echogram on my heart to help determine the level of damage my heart had sustained. From the moment he walked into the room there was just this feeling of calmness that came over me. I knew that he was special in some way. Over the next couple of days Steve made it a point to stop by and see me just to ask how I was feeling and if I needed anything. His level of compassion towards someone like myself, that had just suffered the first major illness of his entire life, was unpresented in my many years. We continue to talk regularly and he continues to help me in anyway he can with my recovery. So am I that guy that has no problem leaving a bad review when I feel one is deserved? Heck yea! But not today!!!!!

There is a terrible quality of care here. It seems to me they are accustomed to dealing with…read moreindigent people who have no idea of their rights or the responsibilities of a healthcare professional. They treat everyone like an inconvenience at best...they certainly did us, anyway. Then they had the audacity to charge us over $7,000.00 for a 2 minute consult with a nurse and out the door we went. No X-rays or actual care. Just disregard, insolence and greed! I'm not indigent, and I'm not passive. They have just opened a Pandora's box of accountability, that much I can assure you. Don't subject your family or self to these parasites! They represent the very WORST of what is wrong with medicine today!
