He received a two-Strand twist, but the ends of his hair had the knots that you would normally see on a woman's hair style. In my opinion, a males style should not have the knots, it should be straight. The only other concern is the wait. He had a 10am appt and didn't leave until 2p. That's absolutely too long. Again, that's my opinion. My service takes 2hrs and I also have locs to the middle of my back.

Officially checked in at 9:08am after another stylist opened shop. Scheduled stylist (Renee) did not arrive until ~9:30am. After washing / conditioning, she was shown photos of requested haircut. Unfortunately, the bangs were chopped way too short, and not connected to the sides of the hair. And did not layer per the photo. The only saving grace is that some of the longer pieces in the top / back that didn't get layered can be pulled forward to hide the chopped off bangs. This is the 3rd or 4th appt with salon over the last 2 years. One prior appt also started late, and at an appt for braids with extensions they didn't have the right color and had not informed us, so braids were 2-tone. I should have taken the hint. Won't be back.

To the Owner of Petal Jolie Salon,…read more My name is Je' Wesley Day, and I am writing to express my deep disappointment and hurt regarding my experience at your salon. I arrived with my 79-year-old mother to inquire about scheduling her hair appointment. My mother has Alzheimer's and suffered a stroke on October 29, 2025; she was hopeful and excited. Instead, we were ignored at your door--no greeting, no acknowledgment, no welcome. The door remained closed even though we were clearly visible. As a tall Black man wearing a skull cap, I am all too familiar with judgment and profiling in everyday America. But to endure being ignored by my own community's business -- a Black-owned salon -- was especially painful. My mother, right beside me, left with tears in her eyes, feeling embarrassed and unimportant. That is a memory I will carry with me. To add insult to injury, we immediately walked across the street to the white-owned salon in the Bank of America building. There, the door was opened, we were welcomed with open arms, and we received a complimentary consultation. This contrast underscores a bigger point: when Black-owned businesses allow such poor customer service experiences, it damages trust and drives customers elsewhere. In fact, Black consumers in the U.S. are projected to represent about $1.7 trillion in consumption by 2030. Yet, Black-owned firms still make up only a small share of all businesses and gross revenue. If Black businesses hope to capture our community's dollars, it demands excellence in service, not exclusion. My intention in writing this is not merely to express anger but to underline how serious this is. When an elderly woman with Alzheimer's and a recent stroke, standing beside her son, is treated as though she does not matter -- something is broken. Our community deserves better from each other. If you want to lead by example in how you serve Black clients, especially seniors, then you must reflect on how this situation was handled and how it impacts reputation and trust. Sincerely, Je' Wesley Day
