One form was troubling, their "Office Policies", it said they had a fine for not cancelling your appointment more than 24 hours in advance, the fine was $50. It also said the patient was responsible for lawyers the dentist would use in going after a past due bill. This last part was crazy in that they expected to be paid on the day of service. I printed my name on the form, but didn't sign. I told the receptionist about this when returning the forms. She said she needed to talk to the dentist and left. He came out looking confrontational and asked me "What can I do for you?, as if the receptionist didn't let him know the situation. He finally said that the forms needed to be filled out before he would see me. I said that I would pass on that and that I would take the forms home to shred since my info was on them. He started to tear the forms up and then tried to hand them to me. At that point I said "You get rid of them" and left.

Now Most people postpone the dentist because its like walking on to a car lot with a dime in their pocket and driving off with the hottest car but a loan beyond their means and a new huge debt. They find the experience similar. I do to but you have to know your plan. So I get the email to fill out my forms prior to showing up and I so I do that. When I get there I have to file out the forms anyway. So, Why did I spend 10-15 mins filing out the forms 6-7 nights ago? I guess Somehow I have two patient file numbers maybe. On to the visit, the X-Ray technician Chyna was amazing. I started to gather back hope that this visit would be amazing. She was polite and sweet. Chris the hygienist also amazing. I knew I needed some intense suggestive work done but he again was polite and kind. I never was made to feel bad or uncomfortable. After he finished the Dentist entered. Dr. Moses advised me of what I knew already and suggested a few things I was unaware of. However she was more focused on discussing the shoe shopping she had done with her assistant. This discussion took precedent over me in the chair. Now after several minutes of their personal discussion while they updated my chart and she would look in my mouth for a short moment, I was sent out to finance and scheduling. This is where it is always fun. I'm a smart shopper at the Dentist so I request everything be sent for Pre D prior to agreeing to pay for anything. My visit was mainly due to severe tooth pain in which three teeth are actually causing the issue. So if you can surmise the amount of pain I would be in. So the scheduling/finance guy suggests my focus has to be the cleaning and we need to it set up today and it would cost over $600. Pump the brakes, I told you I work for the insurance company in which I have insurance with and I process the claims and that my friend is wrong. Hence my request to send the Pre D! Now let's back to the main concern and the fact that I am in immense pain which is being caused by not one but three teeth. So let's focus on a real severe issue. Now that we are both on the same track the next available appointment is......not until the middle of February and in order to schedule that and lock it in I have to pay half that charge. Again I work for my insurance company and know cost and you give me an amount well above what I know to be true. So no I am not paying that and are you kidding me that if someone is in severe pain, can't sleep, needs three teeth addressed you schedule them out for 3 weeks? Very bad experience overall. Extremely disappointed! This is the very reason why people postpone dental visits and wait until the very last minute you look at people like $$. You showed no concern for my pain or suffering, you wanted me to get a cleaning done as a priority for over $600 first. You put upgraded crowns on an estimate rather than talking to me about the basic and the upgrade options. Your Dentist was focused on shoes and shopping well I sat in the chair in pain. Is this really how you want any patients visit to go?

He had an extremely painful tooth.They took x-rays. Said his wisdom teeth and two other teeth would have to be pulled, all would require an oral surgeon. He could see an oral surgeon of theirs in ONE month for a CONSULTATION. They sent him home. NO antibiotic, or prescription tylenol. I eventually found a local dentist with good reviews who could get him in within a week. Got the primary care doc. to prescribe and antibiotic to get him through. Fast forward to the REAL dentist.....the x-rays taken ASPEN were of poor quality, they re-took them (did NOT charge us, though I offered) and then pulled the offending tooth painlessly within a 45 minute visit. He is reschedule to go back for a comprehensive exam and has been pain free ever since. THAT is my idea of an emergency dentist. Heed the poor reviews and STAY AWAY!!! As a contrast, the local dentist that I found has a 5 star review. Live and learn, I'm just sorry my father had to pay the price.

I really enjoyed my two experiences at this place before moving out of Utica. My teeth were cleaned by a very nice blonde hygienist. She then volunteered to clean my retainer in a special machine, which was a first for me. Great customer service. I have some issues with mouth pain and slightly crooked teeth. I fired a bunch of questions at Dr. Coy about wisdom teeth, the process of breaking the jaw, braces, and retainers, and he had great answers for all of them. My only complaint was that he did not seem very thorough; he inspected my entire mouth in about 45 seconds. Didn't test my gums or do a bunch of the tests that I have done at other dental offices. He seemed like he was in a huge rush to get out of the examination room.
