I moved in a 2 bedroom apt Im May. I was in awe of this…read morebeautiful spacious apartment, with a fireplace, 2 large windows, a patio facing the woods! I feel very safe here, having never to live alone, since just losing my spouse. The 3 ladies in the office are so friendly and so very caring and helpful! Maintenance arrives right away if you need something attended to. People are very friendly here too! I couldn't imagine living anywhere else!

When we first moved in, I loved our apartment. Everything was wonderful with my rose colored…read moreglasses. Then, progressively worse. Before you even think about renting here know that they base their rates on "market value rent" which just means they change every couple days bc it goes off an algorithm. So if you tour and love this place, the rate they give you is only good for 48 hours. okay whatever, that should have been the first red flag, but for now, we will classify that as yellow. You sign your lease, cool! Move in is easy. Great! Not until you're settled do you realize the maintenance and "renovations" done are awful. It gives "bought low, cut corners and sold high" "quick flip" vibes. Paint chipping everywhere, hair also trapped under the paint as an added bonus. When you shower, some mystery yellow liquid drips down your walls, the carpet is cheap/paper thin and FILLED with dust the first time we vacuumed. Appliances, all trash. Maybe that's little stuff you can get passed, ok fine, a couple more "orange flags" moving on. They have decided to add Xfinity into your lease at their rate. cool, right? WRONG. Our area has the option for both Verizon and Xfinity so not only do you not get to choose your provider, you have no way of opting out. They will tell you it's an optional service. Sure, optional for you to use but you'll still have to pay. Now, they have chosen another service with a price tag. Valet Trash! No one asked for this useless service or the other one, nor were we surveyed, nothing. disclaimer: their reason was "to keep up with competition", apartments in our area do not do this, i even did research and found NONE in a 20 mile radius that do, with the exception of their sister properties. So just a quick recap on rent structure, it was just rent, water/sewer (normal). Now we have Rent, water/sewer + Wi-Fi ($60/mo.) + valet trash ($25.00/mo.), in a year / year and a half 2 services you're mandated to pay have been tacked on. That adds $85 a month or $1,020.00 a year to your already high rent. Office staff have no compassion when expressing your concerns. One tenant even had to move to a different unit, with the exact same floor plan, same level, just a different building because it was cheaper than their renewal, that makes no sense to me. Customer service is a ZERO/10. Over all the apartments are spacious, Deptford is decent and if you can look past The Austin's shady business practices ... Then welcome home.

I just wanted to update this review to include a little info about rental payments! The management…read morecompany is now offering through a third party the ability to have your rental payments reported on your credit report. Great idea for those who are diligent about paying rent on time assuming that the management company does their part to report accurately and In A timely fashion (good luck with that!) and I'm not sure if there is an additional fee as My lack of TRUST for this company has prevented me from signing up. There are only three options of paying rent here.. check, money order, or credit/debit card. They charge you 25$ "convenience" fee if you choose to pay your rent using credit or debit card and the best part is that the site you use for these payments is NOT SECURE and states so!!! Ridiculous!! Not sure if I mentioned previously but if your rent payment is late there is a 160$ late fee!!! Could be a little more or a little less as it is left to managements discretion what they decide to charge you! I've spoken to several other tenants who are all expected to pay DIFFERENT late fees! I've challenged this discretionary fee and have NEVER received a direct response regarding their protocol when determining what they deem an appropriate fee. Shady at best!

If I could give this apartment complex zero stars, I would. I posted the following review on…read moreapartmentratings.com and felt so strongly about sharing this information that I'm putting it on Yelp too: I was a resident at Locust Grove for years. When I first saw it online, I fell in love with the place and I knew it could be home! It was kid and dog friendly, had great parking, spacious apartments, and a nice clubhouse and pool. In Nov 2014, the management changed from Quaker Group to Merion Group and let me tell you, the change was basically a death sentence for service and happy living in the community. Without any warning, all but one or two staff members who maintained the grounds were laid off before Thanksgiving with no replacements ready to maintain things like, trash pickup, apartment maintenance issues, you name it. The leasing office was totally overworked and, while the manager Patti tried to do her best to respond to constant resident requests, there just weren't enough staff members left on site to fix some major issues. And when I say major issues, I mean like frozen pipes breaking in the community, lights going out and leaving walkways pitch dark, dog poop all over the grounds since the pet bags weren't being refilled, trash accumulating all over the back of the buildings where it looked like there was a dump in your backyard. The list goes on and on - and they added a new staff member, Lori, who has no customer service skills and was actually more combative when receiving feedback/service requests than helpful. On more than one occasion (however hard I tried not to deal with her, sometimes she would be the only one there), she would blame things on everyone and everything under the sun (aka no accountability) and what I thought was really distasteful was that she blamed a bunch of issues on a former employee who "was no longer with the company because of it." How inappropriate is that? I wanted to tell Lori and Merion that their mismanagement and personnel issues are not the residents' problem - that is their own issue that they need to work out internally! TIP: Try to deal with Erika for everything. There isn't enough space or time to go through all of the dysfunction at what was once a nice place to live. There are subjective rent increases, water/sewer increases, and a lease agreement that is so overkill with legalese that I can't even believe it's the same place that I was living in since 2011. Here's the summary: If something happens and you signed the lease agreement, it's your fault. Even if it's not your fault, Merion takes ZERO responsibility for anything. So make sure you read all of the fine print. TIP: Ask to see a copy of the lease up front if you visit. Here's another fact: Different residents are being charged DIFFERENT INCREASES not on any scale or rhyme or reason. I was friendly with a lot of different families and each would tell me different amounts that they were charged (some nothing, some huge increases). Ask about it if you visit, seriously. I guarantee you'll get a song and a dance about how they calculate it by comparing against other rates, etc. Whose rates?? TIP: Ask to see something in writing that spells out exactly where they're getting these comparative rates, etc. before you sign a lease. Management. What a joke - John M., the one who so politely responded to someone else's criticisms on this review site used to sit in the back office of the clubhouse WITH HIS FEET UP ON THE DESK. I thought he was one of the leasing office's sons because he was so unprofessional and would be texting on his phone all the time. When someone told me he was a manager of the property, I didn't believe them! I had to look it up online before I believed it because he never engaged with the residents, even when he overheard issues being discussed in the next room with the leasing representatives! TIP: Don't expect John to resolve issues - not once did he send out anything to the residents when all of the staffing changes happened, when the grounds started looking terrible, when the residents were being displaced because of frozen pipes bursting - we didn't get ANYTHING from him. A resident told me that there was going to be a group meeting with John to discuss concerns about the community - and then it was cancelled and not rescheduled! Luckily, I was one of the few to get out before having to sign another lease. It was the best decision of 2015 and the more I hear about what is still happening, the better I feel about my decision to leave. Merion doesn't care about customer service. They care about bottom lines, cutting corners, and lying to residents' faces (for example, renter's insurance that residents were paying for and yet could not obtain a copy of the policy upon request). Here's my final tip to anyone that cares: Look for someplace else to live. You're welcome.

Hate it here. Price is ok but has to be for what you get. It does increase every year as does many…read moreother apartment complexes in the area. Management sucks. They are extremely unresponsive to any complaints you may have. They will not work with you to resolve complaints (other than maintenance ie. a noise complaint) unless you come in during their office hours which are during most peoples work hours. Once you come in they will seem empathetic and ask you to email the complaint, from there nothing happens. They never answer emails. Their office hours dwindle more and more every 6 months. Everything here is at minimum 30 years old. They have "fixed" our refrigerator on several separate occasions. We have lost our groceries multiple times. We have never been compensated or credited. We requested a new fridge due to the constant breakdowns. The repairmen tell us that they will ask management to allow them to install a new one. They then come back and say they asked the supervisor and the supervisor tells them just to come fix it. Neighbors are all over the place, in terms of quality. Some are nice but the majority lack class and decorum. Lots of druggies live in this complex. People allow many people to live with them at once and hog parking. My upstairs neighbors have 2 dogs and they run wild everyday, all day. I have made several complaints and nothing ever changes. I spoke with the neighbor and he flat out said no he would not keep down. Quiet hours? Forget about them. They are not enforced. There is absolutely no sound cancelling insulation AT ALL. You can hear the common door slam all day. It slams all day. If your neighbor uses their sliding door, the sound rips through the apartment, the apartment literally shakes. The reverberation from noise is so bad your wall hangings will fall. Unfortunately, our neighbors are chain smokers so we here it all day. You will be embarassed, your company WILL comment on the noise (can't blame them). Also, laundry is shared (which I wouldn't care about), however, I am pretty sure our neighbors don't use soap when they use the washer so, although its new, it smells horrible...forcing me to go to the laundromat. Pool? Always broken. Closed the majority of summer. I hate using the word ghetto but this place is definitely that. All things considered the rent should be at least $100 cheaper. Location is great though. Right off of 295.
