I thought that booking my first COVID-19 vaccination shot was trying. I ended up getting my first…read moreone in Schomburg, still a part of York region, but the most western part of it. I was grateful. I couldn't find anything closer to home. My second shot was booked at the same location in August. When Ontario changed its shot recommendations, I decided to move my second appointment up by two months. I couldn't find an appointment in York region that suited the conditions that I met. The best that I could get was an appointment in Orillia in mid-July! Thanks to Vaccine Hunters Canada, I managed to secure my second shot at MedCare Clinics @ Riverview Heights in Brampton. There weren't any location restrictions, although I am eligible to get an appointment in Peel region because I work there. This appointment reduced my travel time by more than half in terms of time and distance. The only downside that I can think of was booking my appointment through e-mail. The process was to send a message. I did to ask what days and times were available. I got a message saying that I could do a walk-in. I wanted a firm appointment. There were definitely more than one person handling the clinic's inbox. I got three different answers that confused me, but I ultimately asked that someone look at my last message with my answers to questions that were requested before an appointment was set. I finally got one secured. I had my appointment yesterday at 3 pm. It was straightforward getting there. It consisted of driving westbound along highway 401, exiting off at Mississauga Road, heading a bit north to Steeles, and driving a block more. There was construction in the parking lot. A lot of dust was blowing around thanks to a brisk wind. Despite some parking spots in front of the clinic that were blocked off, there was plenty of parking available. I parked and headed over to the main door. A man ushered three of us inside. MedCare and Guardian Drugs have separate main entrances. However, when you are inside, they are technically one seamless place without any barriers. I was handed a clipboard. I was asked to sit down, fill out both sides of the form, and then head over to reception. I got a new purple pen and had to take off that tiny little ball that protects the ink tip. I wanted to keep it because it was in my favourite colour, but I was good returning it after I was done. Chairs within the waiting area were nicely distanced from one another. I appreciated how clean and careful things were. I headed to the reception area and was greeted by an efficient and friendly woman. I handed my health card over. She looked at my completed form and asked me to take a seat. This place is highly efficient. It's a well-oiled machine. I don't think that I was sitting there for a couple of minutes when I was called into room 2 to get my vaccine shot. I got a lovely nurse, Damandeep, who administered my shot. She confirmed that I didn't have any COVID symptoms, I got my shot before May 9, and more. She let me know what the side effects were that I may experience after getting my shot. She was professional and even did a countdown before the jab happened. She was great and had a great shot technique. The coolest part of this experience was sitting outside for the mandatory fifteen minutes afterwards. It was such a sunny, warm day. I liked that we were all sitting distanced from one another and we didn't have to touch any doors once our time was up. My first shot had us all sitting inside an arena. Being outside this time was an unexpected, nice change. I had an excellent experience here. I wish that I lived closer, as it's a walk-in clinic that felt relaxed and professional. Like my first shot, I currently have a sore arm. I am fortunate that my shot side effects are negligible. This clinic is located in a large plaza with eateries and businesses. A Tim Hortons anchors it. I didn't get a sticker after getting my shot, but I did get myself a donut at Timmy's... haha! (249)
